It's a "roll", "restrictor", collar or simple neck brace.

It's a simple hold. When you get beat you protect your QB. Nothing more, nothing less.  It is a penalty, but it's not like it was leg whip or an intent to injure.

What are you guys talking about, i play Defensive End and if a o-line ever try to tackle me while i ran past him, than i will make him pay. i might weigh less than them, heck i know i weigh less than them, but i know how to go against them on & off the field. This is definitely a dirty play & illegal. if you can't block a guy, just accept it & try not getting him hurt behind his back.

Chris Samuel is a class act guy. Giant fans probably don't realize that. But that wasn't intentional, he just lost his balanced. If you think it was a cheap shot, then ask yourself why was he standing over him, making sure he was ok?

He tackled him from behind. Debatable as to if it was a cheap shot, but you can clearly see use his arms to tackle Kiwanuka around the legs as he was going down and getting beat.

Frank check out Samuels feet as he pedals back and to the side you can clearly see him lose traction. I know when I slip I dont look around to make sure Im not falling on anything, like a knife for instance. Its not like he twisted his ankle or anything after. I mean seriously

Exactly, I broke this down in depth in an article I wrote at Bleacher Report, and it certainly appears the he lost his balance while trying hold Kiwanuka, and the Kiwanuka actually trips over Samuels' knee. Good observation.

Oh yeah, and the Portis hit....he wasnt down and was still fighting for yardage so you cant fault anyone for going after him. I understand the officials trying to protect the players but they need to be a little more observant before they slap the defense with a 15 yard penalty.

I'm a Giants fan and I dont think that Samuels had malicious intentions here. He was beat right away and in order to protect his quarterback he "tackled" Kiwanuka. Any of the Giants offensive lineman would have done the same thing to protect Eli. I think alot of the Giants reactions were negative because it was the last play of a game that you cant win so why would you take a player down like that? I'm just glad he's ok...we would have been screwed if was seriously hurt.

Wow after seeing the game live i thought it was dirty but after a replay it was just a bonehead reaction. Funny how Antonio Pierce was going off on Samuels for that play in an interview, but he went for Clintons' head when he was already down and if CP gets a concussion you can bet theres a 2 game suspension comming his way so its just NFC East football.

P.S. if you can get the replay when brandon jacobs slaps marcus washington that would be awesome.

It was definitely a bad play, but it does not seem dirty. Samuels was protecting his QB, that is his job; I do not think it was his intent to cause an injury but rather to prevent his QB from harm. Samuels tried to grab high, unfortunately slid down and Kiwanuka got hurt. Samuels did go by Kiwanuka after the play check the 26 second mark.

all the same you don't ever make a block with a high chance of injuring a pass rusher especially on a garbage play. i doubt kiwanuka was going to try to lay into campbell with all his force for the same reason. the standards for protecting a quarterback should not be that low. i don't think there was necessarily intention to hurt but there was a disregard for the potential for injury on that type of play. similar to a horse collar tackle, which i also consider dirty.
