  • i like the the red army coir version its just like wow and this is ok but the red army one brings back memeries of World War 2

  • @Rugby1989Scot & Nufan3303

Wrong war. World War 1 had nothing to do with Nazis, it was simply a war caused by European nations seeking to expand their empires that just so happened to be entangled in several alliances. Ironically, WW1 did the exact opposite of what the countries were trying to achieve. You can thank WW1, for the fall of several European empires: Russian, German, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, along with signaling the fall of others soon to follow.

  • @MrGeraldLord

Read the German historian Fritz Fischer and the causes of WW1. He lived during both the wars, and according to him WW1 was indeed something Germany mostly was to blame, and something Germany absolutely strived for.

The Schlieffen plan was devised in 1904. 10 years before the war had even started. Oh, and what gave Germany the right to invade neutral Belgium? Sink the Lusitania and thereby draw the USA into war?

It was a good thing all those empires fell. A victory for democracy

  • @McLarenMercedes

Didn't say Germany wasn't to blame for it, just said WW1 wasn't about Nazis killing Jews and Nazi ideals, it was imperialism that drove both sides of the war. (I will check out that reading recommendation though.)

And WW1 was a victory for the U.S. ... not democracy. The U.S. was the only real country to benefit from WW1 monetarily. What did most of those European nations who collapsed become after the war? Dictatorships. WW2 was the victory for Democracy.

  • @MrGeraldLord WW2 wasn't exactly a victory for democracy. Spain, Eastern Europe, China, Taiwan and Korea all either became or remained dictatorships. The European empires were dismantled and largely fell into poverty, misery and dictatorship. Western Europe was sucked into the Euro-federalist dictatorship. The only countries that benefited were the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Taiwan (albeit only after the transition to democracy).

  • @SkullOfYorick WW1 and WW2 led to the collapse of European imperialism. When large segments of the world are under the rule of a handful of empires, that's not democracy. I'm not saying democracy overtook the world right after WW2, there was the Cold War, and dictatorships did spring up in parts of the world. But WW2 got the U.S. out of isolation & dealt a serious defeat to Fascism, yes Communism became the new threat but that's what happens when you solve 1 problem, a new one eventually arises.

  • @MrGeraldLord Well, learned Franfort school, my dear. a++ and an extra dilligence star!

    rofl, stupid idiot.

  • It is a wonderful song. I want to hear it many times. Thank you.

  • In my opinion, this dishonors the men and women that served, fought and died in WWI. The US had hardly anything to with the outcome. There was no right or wrong side in this war...our grandparents died for nothing. This wasn't Nazis trying to take over. The song was sung by Irish soldiers marching to their deaths.

  • @nufan3303 Apart from Poland, France, Italy, Belgium, Norway, North Africa, Holland... Yeah, of course they weren't trying to take over. Even if they weren't, the mass slaughter of Jews and other 'untermenschen' would be enough reason. Noone is glad the war happened, but the world couldn't leave Hitler alone. The Irish that volunteered were doubly brave, risking as they did censure and sometimes imprisonment at home for their actions - an incredibly cowardly move by the Irish government.

  • @nufan3303

Read what the German historian Fritz Fischer has to say about WW1 (and WW2). According to him Germany was indeed becoming "proto-nazi" even before 1914. The Prussian military and its ideals, along with the Kaiser were running things. Germany was rightfully blamed for the war, and its escalation into a world conflict.

Sorry, but Austria-Hungary occupied many people that ONLY were given independence after the Entente had won the war.

It was a victory of Democracy over Imperialism.

  • @nufan3303

I am not saying the Entente were perfect and non-imperial. But their democracy and cultural ideas were more modern and progessive than what Germany and Austria had. Let's not mention the Ottoman Empire (Turkey), for which losing the war was a blessing, since Kemal Ataturk reformed it and saved it

After the war many new free countries were formed

The Entente was the "least bad" and this is the reason the USA joined them.Germany was "proto-nazi" in WW1. Erich Ludendorff for instance

  • Love this song.

  • im a vetran of a rock war (not a real war but real blood and suffering)

  • love his voice!

  • Come on tipp this is our year!!!

  • @nodge69r It is/was!! Made a small collection from my local bookmaker.

  • 'The mary tyler moore cast sang this in the closing moments of their series finale.

  • I honestly believe that it is not an insult. It is the Singers perogative to interchange the words. There was so many Irishmen in the British Army in World War 1 and it became a British Army Marchng song and also a recruiting song.

  • Pass his monument every day, he did our town proud.
