@bigcatrescue Don't worry, most cats are happier in domestication if you get them wild pray to chase and eat every once in a while. My stepdad's friend has a pet bobcat, and she is sooooo sweet and happy and spoiled. If you find another, domesticate it and make a series about it! All felines tend to be happy in domestication if they are treated nicely and have certain aspects of the wild.
If this bobcat is to be rehabilitated, shouldn't the people feeding him be wearing a scent proof suit and gloves that disguise the sight and scent of humans while he is being fed to keep it from developing an attachment to humans?
@MyersAMV We are only in the area for a very short time to feed Hope, if you watch later videos in the series you will see that she is introduced to a domestic cat family and our presence/contact becomes almost nothing...
Every time i watch one of your videos about rescuing a Felid my whole day is refreshed and i'd stay cheerful till the end of the day, you are a living example of that not all humanity is uneducated about cats and that they can adopt with us and vise versa, watching all those amazing videos of yours reminds me of the Felids i adopted, and also "fixes" me up as i don't have any cat around me anymore..
Thanks for all what u did, doing and will do, purrs and licks to you!
I can't believe people are scared of bobcats and waste your time by calling you to remove them. humans can be so petty and vain, and extremely stupid. it's a shame you have to deal with such stupidity. i'm guessing 90% of your funding has to go towards dealing with stupid people, or "educating" the public, as you euphemistically put it. you guys must have an endless supply of patience. i'll do whatever i can to contribute to your organization
@wesmartino64 When people call us, they're not necessarily scared, they just don't want the bobcat to get hurt, so we go and check out the situation etc.. Sometimes we get cases of mistaken identity which can be a waste of time, but more often than not when a bobcat can be seen by people something isn't right and we can usually help in some way :)
@wesmartino64 you DO know you have to have a license to own these things, right? Gee, maybe that's why they give the stray bobcat to a bobcat keeper*with a license*
i have a domestic cat that is dried up of milk and i have the same set for milking the kittens your showing me that your suppose to use the long thin one and put it carefully down there throat is that true please right back before the kittens die
people shouldn't be afraid of bobcats. The only healthy predators known to attack full grown humans in america are cougars, wolves, bears, and feral dogs/ cats. Most animals are afraid of us.
@mamba701 Bobcat are very tough little cats that could probably adapt to African habitat...? Is it true Caracals are seen as pests in Africa for killing livestock etc..?
@BigCatRescue Could these cats live in a remote forest in northern Canada or in Alaska? If so, you should get as many or all Bobcats from Florida to those locations?
if u take any "domesticated" breed of anything and let it grow up in the wild, it will act wild: wild mustangs, ferrel (wild) dogs and cats. one time there was a little french boy who grew up in the wild and he acted wild....and he was a human!
@alexross8 I think you have the definition of domestication wrong.
Domestication is not about it being friendly toward humans - it's more like animals being breed specifically to be useful for humans. Humans having been breeding cats so they can hunt pests for thousands of years. They don't have to be friendly to humans in order to do that. If humans were gone, sure, I bet domesticated cats and dogs will become a wild species after a million of years.
Hi, breeding bobcats to live in captivity isn't the way to help, if this is what you meant. What we need to do is preserve the habitat for wild cats already out there, if we can't do this i we are in trouble.
It would be great to expand areas of natural habitat for these cats, but it's not going to happen there's way to many people and not enough room, we can only try and preserve as much as possible. Yep, BigCatRescue*org is where you can find our donations page - thank you!
Wow. I wonder why the mother would leave the kitten... Mothers are extremely protective over their offspring... Maybe she was hit by a car, or spooked by one and ran off. Must be hard to raise a bobcat kitten, or any wildcat for that matter.
They do want to be around and are not that expensive to feed if a house cat can eat dry food so can they where do you think the domesticated cats come from? Do they not like meet? You people think you know everything even domesticated cats have their own personality
Pale91579: I'm not sure I understand what you're implying. Do you mean we should not waste our time on hurt and defenseless young wild animals and just let them die a slow and agonizing death? Why leave them alone? Or isn't compassion part of your vocabulary? Thank God for caring people like BigCatRescue.
"missing an eye and a hole in his side"..."we live for these moments" i think these people are jackasses. I think they just rationalize their desire to be close with infant wild animals. Plug the hole in your soul and leave nature alone.
Big Cat Rescue doesn't breed any of their cats, the bobcats that we have raised from a young age or rehabbed after they were hit by cars have been released back into the wild.
Never underestimate these cats...I chased a northern one out of my chicken coop once. I swear he was bigger than my 40 lb dog! Lucky me, I was not cornering him, just spooking him away. You should never make them feel cornered, all it takes is one well-placed claw swipe to damage you for life.
Owning a bobcat is a very bad idea, they are expensive to feed, scratch, spray to mark their territory, have expensive vet bills and really don't want to be around you once they are mature. Plus not to mention they are unpredictable and dangerous!
Like the viewer said below we keep the rehab bobcats in their own enclosure in a quiet secluded area of the sanctuary with absolute minimum involvement of people. We then feed them through a tube system we have set up with live prey so they never know where their dinner is going to appear inside their enclosure, so they learn how to hunt :)
umm, when you say you don't want the bobcat to be imprinted with humans when sent back into the wild , do you meanlike you don't want him walking up to hunter thinking he won't get shot?
cute but when older there hateful my friend had pet bobcat it was sweet when young but older there mean ive shot a couple of bobcat eating my animals there exspensive to mount tho
The book that I got for my Birthday (Bobcat:Master of survival) said all the things bobcats can get catch or kill a bobcat. By steel leghold traps,body-gripping traps, snares, tracking hoounds, aerial hunting, calling and shooting, spotlight and shooting, cage trap and M-44 which is loaded ejecter and a capsule containting a poisonous mixture.I haskilled a lot of animals.
This is the way I look at it, and I would be one of the uneducated people in this. Either way I live in southern ontario so bobcats are VERY scarce. Anyway here's the question, as you see, now the Bobcat is a cute little kitty, but of course, when they grow their lunch gets bigger too, i mean up in BC i see videos of the local ones being hunted because they eat people's dogs. There have even been the rare man eaters!
This is true northern bobcat can grow large 45lbs or so and can take down full grown deer, I really don't think there have been many cases of man eating bobcats though maybe attacks if they have been cornered or have kittens with them. Its sad that the wild animals are always the ones to suffer form human development and encroachment on their territory.
What like people? I'm sure they would rather stay hidden than attack people, unless like you said, they were sick and desperate or had no other option.
That's the problem, these native cats are being pushed out of their natural habitat so they are seen more and more in developed areas and fall victims to cars.
the questions i is the fact that bobcats should have their territory or park because i mean if they come to homes they could eat someone's dog or whatever, i dunno, am i wrong?
My birthday is on July the 7th but I"m having it on the 6th on Monday I'm getting 2 books one about Catwarriors and the other one about bobcats its called Bobcat:Master of survival
I have never had the honour of seeing a bobcat in my yard, but if I did, it would be most welcome and if anyone tried to hurt it, they would end up on the wrong end of my sword.
I have a friend that moved into an exclusive neighborhood in North Georgia. It is very mountainous and the backs of the homes are on stilts since the terrain is so steep. She was so proud of living in the middle of wildlife, bragging about seeing black bears at the bird feeders. Some of the exterior walls are glass. I only visited her once. She was complaining that they were building more homes there, it was to stay wild and beautiful?? I fear for the day when a bear invites itself to dinner!
you're stronger than me, and i know she has to go back but i don't think i could keep from giving the kisses, chin rubs and cuddling. she is just too precious. i'm going to watch the updates.
i feel so bad i wish i was older so i can be like you guys one day see i love cats like bobcats and stuff but you guys are my role modles i wish i could be like you one day
see, i absolutly love cats, so i plan on becoming an animal biologist and specialize in big cats, even though im 13. im trying to find some kind of place (in the united states) that'll help me. if anyone has any places in mind plz tell me
Save the animals, stop global warming and everything will be fine... Well for me I guess anyone else? Btw Even though its not my bobcat or anything, I really want to thank you guys for taking care of it!
Thank you so much for your help! Ive always loved animals espaisally wild cats... I used to try to learn every single thiing I could about wild cats and cats!I probley still have my papers I printed and everything... but I just wanted to tell you thanks again! If it wasn't for people like you alot of wild cats might be gone by now! thanks!
Just so you know...If we don't act on saving animals, people will dissapear too one day. If we keep killing, there won't be anything left for us either.
ChachangaCaracal, HELLO! I am glad you are still around YOUR love for these animals is an ongoing inspiration to us. THANK YOU for watching and for caring.
Oh, how adorable!!! I love what BCR does. But I have to admit, if I found that kitten in my backyard I'd take her thinking she was a domestic kitten and be shocked when she grew into a bobcat!
So sweet, it's wonderful that this rescue can help these animals and make sure that they have the best life as possible. The bobcats are such cuties!!!
Kakarot20007, yes when they are babies they look cute and cuddly and people do not stop to think that cuteness and cuddliness goes away very quickly and the animal becomes a full grown carnivore with wild tendencies.
The more I learn..the more I think we humans are nothing but parasites,a scourge on the earth. Thankfully,we have people like BigCat Rescue that cares. I just hope that we can all learn to stop our advancement and destruction of what little habitat is left for animals to be in a natural state. I agree that caged animals is really a sad situation but I am so glad they they have you guys to care for them. To release that cat into the wild must have been a very spiritual experience! Love Big Cats!
That is so cool. I would be thrilled to see a bobcat in my back yard. I would be really thrilled to see one in my neighbor's back yard with that damn barking dog. :) I'm kidding, of course. Actually, no I'm not.
i love it. what all of you do is amazing. that is what i would consider a dream job. i dont even know if i can imagine how you feel etc. i think i know the answer to this, but why is there a stuffed animal cat while the bob cat is feeding? to give it more of the nursing experience? i love you guys!
I worry for this little one that it may imprint on humans (especially the one getting up around the clock to feed it) despite your best efforts. Based on looks, if it were a domestic kitten, it's just beginning to enter the stage where it will begin to be socialized.
I hope you find a proper mother-cat for her. It's unfortunate that there are pregnant wild cats in captivity at all.
I'm saddened to learn that FL only has about 100 Bobcats, and that in 2007 there were 14 killed.
Thank you for the work you continue to do, regardless of the difficulty and challenges. One of these daZe I hope to be able to travel in your direction and visit your place in Tampa. Do you know about the tiger sanctuary in Lake City?
Another good video from BCR, Now if the intention is to release the animal wouldnt the handling and feeding from a baby even for a short time, make that animal much more comfortable around humans?
75cliffe, THANK YOU for watching and THANK YOu for caring enough to post a comment. The staff and volunteers will be sure to post an update about the baby soon.
The staff is working to locate a cat that can stand in as mother for this baby. The staff is trying very hard to not allow the baby to attach to humans as that would destroy any chances for the animal being released back into the wild when it becomes big enough and strong enough and has become old enough to demonstrate hunting ability for to survive in the wild on its own. Stay tuned or subscribe to our channel as we will post updates on this baby bobcat here. Thank you for caring.
Sparrocrazy, bobcats prefer to not be around humans or areas where humans are. If a bobcat is coming to visit then please leave it alone. Do not try to feed it, pet it or catch it. You can contact Big Cat Rescue for more details on what to do. When people build homes in areas that are the bobcats' natural habitat there are likely to be sightings. If there is enough nearby wild/natural habitat area with natural prey the bobcats will retreat away from humans and their pets.
Thanks, not to wory though, I'm well aware of the "risks" if you could call it so.. I wouldn't dream of cathing it ( it belongs in the wild... riht?) And know that you're not supposed to feed wildanimals.=) So no worries. I was only curious at the pets/bobcats area, I'm happy to hear that it's not a problem.=)
SparrowCrazy, thank you for your nice comment. We apprciate your time & concern for the animals. Generally bobcats will do everything they can to avoid human occupied areas. However, sometimes due to habitat destruction or loss of their prey base they will fnd themselves smack in the middle of a human occupied area. It would be a wise precaution to keep pets put up. It is better to be safe than sorry. Bobcats would have to be pretty desparate to come into a human's yard.
Well, in that case we would only have ourselves to blame, it's one thing I often say is that it's not the animals distubring our territory/ies it's us destroying their homes.
One day I hope to work for the cause of wild animals as a zoolog but right now I got to keep up with my studies to get there.=) Perhaps one day I could work with Big Cat Rescue.. who knows, but it would be wonderfull to actually help all those wild creatures=).

I absolutely hate that! Tear-up the wilderness for residential or commercial development, then complain about the wildlife.
And, how much of that development is now under water financially or foreclosed?
Just another aspect of the easy-money policies and regulatory failure of the U.S. Federal Reserve and bank fraud.

Domestication doesn't exist.
If you stick a dog out in the wild , it will become aggressive towards humans , same with a wolf.
If you go up to a wild cat , it will act like any big cat.
In recent studies , normal cats are more aggressive if they are born out in the wild , than a lion.
Cats are not so domestic.
Name one trait of a cat that can be considered "Domestic".

BigCatRescue 3 years ago
Oh, how adorable!!! I love what BCR does. But I have to admit, if I found that kitten in my backyard I'd take her thinking she was a domestic kitten and be shocked when she grew into a bobcat!

So sweet, it's wonderful that this rescue can help these animals and make sure that they have the best life as possible. The bobcats are such cuties!!!

Great work on realeasing the forst cat!
That kitten looks so like a domestic cat, I guess that's why people think they'd make good pets, so beautiful though, keep up the wonderful work. x
Kakarot20007 3 years ago 3
Kakarot20007, yes when they are babies they look cute and cuddly and people do not stop to think that cuteness and cuddliness goes away very quickly and the animal becomes a full grown carnivore with wild tendencies.

You are doing great work.

Carry on. You guys do great work.
10pigdog6 3 years ago
i love it. what all of you do is amazing. that is what i would consider a dream job. i dont even know if i can imagine how you feel etc. i think i know the answer to this, but why is there a stuffed animal cat while the bob cat is feeding? to give it more of the nursing experience? i love you guys!
brittanyawesome 3 years ago
I worry for this little one that it may imprint on humans (especially the one getting up around the clock to feed it) despite your best efforts. Based on looks, if it were a domestic kitten, it's just beginning to enter the stage where it will begin to be socialized.
I hope you find a proper mother-cat for her. It's unfortunate that there are pregnant wild cats in captivity at all.

Thank you for posting this and letting people see how your work is important and how much you put into it.
It must be very hard to want to love and treasure her but not being able to really interact with her.
I love animals and I plan on being a vet, but seeing your work makes me consider doing something like this too :)

Big Cat Rescue, I cannot stand to wait to know what has become of this baby bobcat!
Your work is stellar!
CDLver 3 years ago 2
The staff is working to locate a cat that can stand in as mother for this baby. The staff is trying very hard to not allow the baby to attach to humans as that would destroy any chances for the animal being released back into the wild when it becomes big enough and strong enough and has become old enough to demonstrate hunting ability for to survive in the wild on its own. Stay tuned or subscribe to our channel as we will post updates on this baby bobcat here. Thank you for caring.

Aww so cute! I would love to see a bobcat live!
Question: Does a bobcat desturb the pets like dogs, cats and that if they come to visit or isn't that any problem`?
sparrowcrazy 3 years ago
Sparrocrazy, bobcats prefer to not be around humans or areas where humans are. If a bobcat is coming to visit then please leave it alone. Do not try to feed it, pet it or catch it. You can contact Big Cat Rescue for more details on what to do. When people build homes in areas that are the bobcats' natural habitat there are likely to be sightings. If there is enough nearby wild/natural habitat area with natural prey the bobcats will retreat away from humans and their pets.
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
Thanks, not to wory though, I'm well aware of the "risks" if you could call it so.. I wouldn't dream of cathing it ( it belongs in the wild... riht?) And know that you're not supposed to feed wildanimals.=) So no worries. I was only curious at the pets/bobcats area, I'm happy to hear that it's not a problem.=)
Thanks for the answer and keep up hte good work=)
sparrowcrazy 3 years ago 4
SparrowCrazy, thank you for your nice comment. We apprciate your time & concern for the animals. Generally bobcats will do everything they can to avoid human occupied areas. However, sometimes due to habitat destruction or loss of their prey base they will fnd themselves smack in the middle of a human occupied area. It would be a wise precaution to keep pets put up. It is better to be safe than sorry. Bobcats would have to be pretty desparate to come into a human's yard.
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
Well, in that case we would only have ourselves to blame, it's one thing I often say is that it's not the animals distubring our territory/ies it's us destroying their homes.
One day I hope to work for the cause of wild animals as a zoolog but right now I got to keep up with my studies to get there.=) Perhaps one day I could work with Big Cat Rescue.. who knows, but it would be wonderfull to actually help all those wild creatures=).
