  • Amen! And I wanna know the name of the song. ^^

  • The same applies for laptops and cheap ass television sets

  • AMEN Mr Lynch

  • "on your FUCKING telephone"

Quite possibly the best use of the word "fuck" ever.

  • he should have grabbed the camera and screamed into it like Frank Booth: "You know what a movie is fucker?! It's a bullet from a f***ing gun, f***er!!!"

  • I despise the fascination people have with their fucking phones. Most people don't give a damn about the phone you have. If it is the latest super phone, they'll pretend to like it while despising it since it is much better than their 3 month old, former top super phone. Then, in 3 months, your new super phone that you spent way too much on is nearly obsolete, but your contract means you are stuck with it.

  • now if your playing the movie on a telephone you will never in a btrillion years experience the film, you think you have experienced it but you'll be *hmpf* cheated its a such a sadness if you think you have seen a film on your .... FUCKING telephone get real

  • This vid is always good for a laugh.

  • one of the best directors in the world, talking about one of the lamest products in the world

  • watching a movie on a phone is got to the be most desperate lamest thing ever.

  • I love this motherfucker hahahaha

  • Right on DL.... I so agree.... people are missing the magic of the BIG SCREEN experience.... long live David Lynch....

  • lol

  • amen

  • He seems like such a nice person. It's hard to believe he made films like Eraserhead and Rabbits which scarred me to no end with their disturbing surrealism.

  • wh-wh-what did i just watch?

  • This amuses me to no end. Wonderful. You tell 'em Dave, YEAH!

  • hahaha i love lynch so much

  • I agree. But the kind of people who watch films on their iPhone aren't really looking to experience cinema. I personally try to see all the films I can at the cinema, because it's debatable whether you can completely experience a film even on DVD (when the intended destination was the cinema).

  • Kinda depends what movie you're watching, doesn't it?

    Harold and Kumar? Sure.

    Citizen Kane? Probably not.

  • you're a terrible person. i just hope you learn that before it's too late.

  • Maybe because a movie *should* be experienced per se.

  • OMFG I love him.

    The last line- perfect.

  • Well i love both LYNCH and APPLE... what can i do? The truth is in the middle, watching movies on iPhone of course is not the same level of experience of a theater.

  • If you think of how much work goes into making a film look great, you'll understand his frustration. A hell of a lot of work and planning go into such things as set design, lighting, sound, mise en scene and even the film stock. Imagine the frustration the film maker must feel knowing that a large part of this work has gone to waste. People aren't seeing the art as it's intended.

This of course excludes chick flicks and teen comedies. Feel free to watch those on your phone.

  • Yes!

  • this is DA man. LYNCH FOR PRESIDENT!!!

  • this is one of the best things i've ever seen

  • fuck Iphones.

  • That was so awesome XD

  • I LOVE this...

  • The iPhone isnt mentioned you desperate, scraping the bottom of the barrel cretins.

  • Hahaha, hilarious. Oh yeah, and this video was added on my 20th birthday! B)

  • he looks near death...

  • haha I love David Lynch, XD

  • Lynch Rules! Great sense of humor, and despite his creepy films he has such a serene and peaceful demeanor.

  • I didn't exspect the *** part

  • ... watching the 40-Year Old Virgin on a train ride with your iPhone.

    (Sorry for split comment)

  • Silly. He doesn't even say why. Certainly movies like Alien don't lend themselves well to small screens and especially bright rooms. But there is nothing wron... sorry FUCKING nothing wrong with

  • lol he is good

  • David Lynch, I love you.

  • it was also funny how he put such an emphasis on 'FUCKING'

  • im going to watch a movie for the first time either in my basement on my TV, or in the theater. but i would never, for my first viewing, see it on a phone. not only because i wouldn't watch the full video from beginning to end, but because the experience does not get anywhere near what you would receive if you watched a theater movie.

hes also saying this cause hes an old man who is getting pissed off at people for stealing movies. not that i can blame him.

  • I don't think so, he's said things about just that, that entirely contradict this. Also, the iPhone movies aren't the stolen ones, on average.

  • FOOD from the oven is better...

I can tell you havent lived on this planet long enough to know that.

try toasting a bagel in the microwave...smart guy

  • I whole-heartedly agree... you ever make corndogs in the microwave? Oven corndogs are way better. It is as if they are two totally different foods.

Movies on I-phone or I-pod? Forget it...right down there with microwaved corndogs. You are indeed cheating yourself. .

  • A movie is a very carefully constructed piece of art intended to be experienced, not just "seen". Watching a movie on a 3.5 inch screen with mono sound coming from a phone speaker is as close to experiencing it as watching people having sex is to experiencing it. You're assuming he's a rambling old man who shuns new technology, rather than an artist who understands that.

  • You obviously haven't seen any movies starring Jean-Claude van Damme. If thats a "very carefully constructed piece of art", then I'm Neo from the Matrix.

  • If you are going to experience a film for the first time you must consider scale since that accounts for much of the impact a film must have on a viewer. For expressionism an artist improvises with his allegory, symbols or metaphors to connect the theme; at times that means shrinking subjects in frames for any subtlety significance etc. that would have been obvious hadn't the film been on a miniscreen.

  • I love how he exposes this big corporate trance we're in as so EMBARRASSING. Just like he did in that interview about product placement when he said it was "total fucking bullshit." Keep it up, Mr. Lynch!

  • Lynch seems to feel that he can make a blanket judgment on what a viewer can or cannot appreciate based on pixels.

That said, why would anyone even want to see a film like Eraserhead on a portable device?

  • he has the right..to make blanket statements..

I believe he has earned it...and we should listen..

  • I love this guy

  • im sleepin at 3am so i dnt give a shit if hes next to my bed at that time

  • lol

  • he says "fucking" with such angry panache! no one can swear quite as well as dear davey lynch. love it.

  • I've never seen a David Lynch film, but he seems like a brilliant guy. I completely agree with him about watching movies on portable devices.

  • lynch the iphone!

  • He is saying that people should watch movies in the theaters. Not on their iPhones, iPods, cellphones, or any other portable device that can show movies.

  • haha i love him

  • Lynch iz da man!

  • get real. HA! This is from a man who's never been real.

  • i take that back, he is real, more real than any one else on the planet.

  • hell yes.

  • what a fucking hero

  • i love david lynch more than my father
