My school use to take Seniors to Florida for a week during the school-year. Not sure if it, or any school, does that much anymore. Age 17-18 & in a landlocked state, we weren't exactly jelly-experts. But we did take a crash-course on them before arriving. 1 guy got stung the year before. Sorta screwed his trip up, but nothing real bad or lasting over a few days. My group only saw 1 "herd" of about 50 suckers, evidently stinger-less, since 3 of us guys found ourselves surrounded .... literally.
The Irukandji (Very good try [theitalian556]) is the smallest jellyfish on record and is amongst the most deadly in the world. It's a type of box jellyfish which is ranked as the deadliest marine animal, responsible for the most human fatalities in the past 5 years. It has stingers on it's tentacles as well as it's body that can spring outward, so don't flick it. Due to their size and fragility, people aren't so terrified. Actually, I kindof am...
The reason I always wear a full length wetsuit. Hope it didn't hurt too much. This diver is waving her arms around like she is a ballet dancer. That isn't diving. Fix your buoyancy and not arm flailing is required.
I know ! There is a jellyfish that is so small that they pass through the nets . I think it's called Iraconjie . I may have spelled it wrong , but oh well it's Japanese . It will kill you within 2 minutes . Bad little bugger .
@Doodlebuggie95 the irukanji. its a species of box jelly mainly found around australia, but they are in fact spreading around the world. The sting causes an effect Aboriginals call, "Irukanji Syndrome". it causes unbearable pain after 5 minutes of the sting, and can last for hours. the poison is not deadly, but they are EXTREMELY dangerous.
Same here. If given the chance & an OK, I wouldn't hesitate a moment before placing my tentacle amongst her body.
But unlike this fellow, I'm a gentleman & respect ladies. As stated above, I'd make sure she didn't mind first. I wouldn't just start nibbling without asking, not even rubbing against her if she accidently brushed against me, which is obviously the case here.
That guy just took advantage of a completely innocent touch ... then quickly left. How rude & uncalled for.
irukandji are pretty damn small, not sure how small, but their small, their sting is known to cause Irukandji syndrome, which commonly occurs in austrailia, if neone finds out how small andirukandji is, plz reply, thanx
I think you're right it was, i don't have a clue but i'm sure i saw this on a documetary about irukandji...You die afterwoods or near enough. It only hurts after about a minuite after the initial sting. Then like hell. It looks like one though
I also saw a documentary but this one said that the sting would kill you but you can easily treat it with some sort of antibiotic. But after it the sting you could suffer from weeks of pain every where. But it is also sometimes last only like three days. The documentary I seen was called killer jellyfish. It was either on the discovery channel or animal planet.
wtf no. not the small box jelly's the size of ur nail. did u see the documentary on them on discovery channel. the two scientist barely got stung and they where at the hospital for three weeks!
your right though, they can kill you but it really depends on how bad your run in with the box jelly fish. Also an encounter with one is also pretty rare depending on where you are which is also the reason why the death toll is so low.
But if you get into a bad encounter with one, what I mean by this is if you really get into it's tentacles the time limit before death is 3 minutes or more depending on your immune system. 3 to 3 in a half minutes just to be safe.
Er, I am not American but I don't appreicate racism on this page. I know a lot of people don;t realise that slagging of Americans is racism, but it is. And they are not collectively dumb. No, it wasn't a box jellyfish, you're right.
@jakelamotta1990 I'm sure there's at least a handful of australians that don't know what a box jellyfish IS, much less that it's deadly. Knowledge is subjective to the receiving brain. I'm guessing you're smart enough to figure that on your own. Enjoying the attention?
Just as a side note, I think it's important that people know about that which can kill them even if it doesn't pertain to them. Make stuff like that common sense and you'll never be caught off guard :D
First time i hear that americans are a race. Fuckin idiots.
