  • 13 years later, I still remember how shocked I was as child when I saw this. Choirs around the world singing "in time". Remains my most favorite Opening Ceremonies act to this day. Nothing has really come close to topping it I don't think yet. (And it cemented my adoration for Seiji Ozawa--look at the hair! The mad conducting!)

  • Must... stay... awake...

  • Grandísimo!!! BRAVO!!!!

  • Couldn't stop crying. The people of the world are awakening. Time to throw off your Governments and Organized Religion and realize the unity of all life. " No Gods, No Masters " " The World is my Country, All living beings are my Brothers and Sisters, my relgion is to do good "[ paraphrase of Thomas Paine ] AHO AHO AHO

  • @WarriorSage2 Here!!! Here!!!

  • Magnificent & inspiring high concept performance! Beethoven must be pleased! Thank you for posting it! Years ago Maestro Ozawa was principal conductor of the San Francisco Symphony and I attended many performances... Such a joy to behold his beatific visage again, and in such a breathtaking context! Bravissimi tutti!

  • Stunning, breath taking, jaw dropping........

  • Simply Awesome! Thanks for uploading the complete piece.

I remember seeing part of it on American TV and a voice over kept interrupting the performance with stupid comments such as " what a beautiful music... now the Ode to Joy.. by Beethoven.. blah blahh blah.".It made me cringe. I kept thinking.. why don't you just shut up mf?

  • bewegend, wirklich bewegend....

  • Omg, what a beautiful moment when world is united singing this, i've got goosebumps.

  • awesome!!!!

  • This is one of the greatest musical performances ever

  • I remember when this was broadcast here in the USA , and we definately did not see this entire choral piece, rather it was inturrupted with commercials or edited out for time sake. Just like American television to ruin, what i can see now, was the best part of the whole ceremony.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. I haven't seen it for years but have never forgotten it. I'd love to hear what Seiji Ozaqa had to say about conducting the entire world performing Ode to Joy. Has anything similar ever been attempted?

  • For my mind Ode to Joy is the true Olympic anthem.

  • @dsfddsgh Yeah, i prefer Ode to joy than the current Olympic anthem, but i think Europian union already using it as Official anthem.... so, yeah...

  • @traineek Your correct the European Union (and all other arms of the European Parliament) use Ode to Joy as an unofficial anthem. (Was going to be the Official Anthem for all countries in the Union but i know that the United Kingdom (at least) Vetoed this proposal from the pre-cursor of the Lisbon Treaty)

  • I am sending this to my Asian students that I mentor in English ages 14 to 22

  • Certainly the most memorable opening. What a great concept to have many nations participating and so many locations.
