The formula: a I - V - vi - IV chord progression on rhythm, the lead is playing a pentatonic or major scale to create a hook, and the bassist is doing a slight harmony to build the drama while the drum plays at mock speed.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not knocking this formula - I love it with all my heart. But this was not just 90's Epitaph. The instrumentals from the last 20 years of Lookout, Fat, and Epi are almost indistinguishable if not for different pedals/amps/guitars and studios.
