The two versions are just different. One isn't better than the other. Having said that I do like the extra sense of fragility Arcade Fire bring to this song. Like one of those parcels that say FRAGILE but in this case it's a song or maybe a heart.
@francisqinho This is about artistic collaboration and expression, not about what YOU think might sound better. If they wanted to do it like that, then it's good enough for me. I love her voice.
I was so absolutely against bands doing covers of songs... Until now, Arcade Fire rocks this song better than the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, and I don't care if you take it as an offense because it's the truth
I expected this to be much different. It's a little bit disappointing because I think they could have done SUCH an amazing job on this. It's not horrible, but it could be so much better.
Okay this might sound wierd but I fell in love with this recording and then found the Yeah Yeah Yeahs original. The effect was that all the tension of their strangely out of tunedness of the two voices together was finally resolved for me by Karen O's magnificent performance of her song. Anyway it is almost unsingable except by her but the cool thing is that AF would do it anyway cause they love the song.
why would they have to tweek this song its just a cover it was on a bbc radio show or something its not a studio track. bands do covers all the time live radiohead did it in live at the basement live track just not audience.
I dnt think the reason for a cover is to out do it's original artist,I was surprised to see arcade fire had done a cover of this song so I had to check it out.I didn't even think for a moment that they were killing the song or trying to out do it,that's not them & I happened to enjoy it,it was a little raw but it was them.& this band is in no way fake I've seen them life in San fransico and the were amazing in every aspect:)
I tried to like arcade fire. I sincerely did but I downloaded their albums and I just can't take it. It's to unstructured. And this. oh god I love this song why did they do this to it...
I think they should have maybe sung the whole thing together. The parts they were singing together were mind blowing. Régine Chassagne's voice sounds breakable and Karen O's voice sounds like she's a tough girl giving in (maybe already broken). It's a good enough cover but fails miserably at living up to the original.
Haven't heard the original, might look it up in a bit, but I do like this one. Not as moving as other arcade fire songs, but it's still a good rarity. They can't all be amazing, but I think this is far from bad.
I love Arcade Fire with all my heart, but I agree with most of you, this is just not good... it lacks the power and deep emotion of the YYY original. I wonder what's Karen O's opinion about this tho. ;)
This cover is awesome. Of course it's not going to be just like Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but why would you want it to be? This cover is great because it has that Yeah Yeah Yeah feel with the Arcade Fire genius! Rock on!
Am i the only person who think this is way better than the original, it has a lot more soul and for me its very haunting. Well done arcade fire pulled another one out the bag.
I love love love how they're not trying to imitate the YeahYeahYeahs. They couldn't ever sound like them. Nobody could. So they sing it Arcade Fire style. That's brilliant! It's perfect.
The one thing ppl need to realize is that ninety nine times out of a hundred the cover versions will never be better than original, so it is pointless to always keep saying so. But I think it is a great compliment when one band covers another. The YYY are awsome and I only wish more great bands would cover them and spread their music around.
this song is def. made for karen O's voice but im not gonna lie i couldent resist the temptation to sing along to this cover... its really good and I think his voice is beautiful....
I love both Arcade Fire and the YYY's, and I'll have to say I like YYY's better, but it's really awesome to hear a band a love cover a song from another band I love.
Not the original, no one can argue with that. Still, I enjoy hearing one of my favorite bands cover one of my favorite songs. I think it would have been better if Win had taken lead vocals tho.
True, I hate how everyone is saying. ARCADE FIRE is better or the YYY's are. I personally prefer the Arcade Fire cover, but that's just me. Of course there are the yyy's fans that can't stand this because there not used to hearing someone else then Karen singing it. But why do you bother watching the video if you know you won't like it, cause it's not the yyy's.
I think I'm just used to hearing Karen O croon this song out, and to hear them actually singing it out....sounds odd, but not bad. There are times, however, where it sounds a little off

I like this, it gets this feeling of being so fragile if I touched it, the song would break into a million pieces like some long lost artifact.
Those who have had their best loves leave them, feel this way.

Win should be singing the whole thing. He's the better singer in the band and even though he's a guy the song benefits from him when he does sing.
Just my two cents. I didn't even like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'till recently.
