I don't think it really has anything to do with the instrument they play. XD These two aren't the only ones with drummer leaders, but there are plenty other bands with leaders who play different instruments, or sing.

I think it's good to be leader when you're the drummer 'cause you are behind the others so maybe the drummer can see things what for example the vocal can't see so he can coordinate the members better (I hope you know what I mean my english is not very good I'm sry xD)
