@xronnoc7x Make sure the Root object of the bones is not a child of the object - did you select everything? Not slightly faded select, but all the bones and the object is fully selected (control click on stuff)
nice tutorial...exactly what i was looking for...one question though...my model has wheels instead of legs...i dont know for sure but i think if i used motors for the wheels they would just go continuously....where if im animating i may want to go...stop...turn...etc.....if anyone has any ideas id appreciate it...ty
@Shadownian I know you can find car rigs out there (never looked into them, so wouldn't know much about them). But you could rig it based on the movements necessary: back wheels, make one bone in the center parallel to the flat surface of the car. Connect it to the two back wheels, and turn it to turn both of them.
Im using r12 and did everything as you said but when yout told me to "bind" it I did but when I then rotated a joint all of the joints followed with it and not the capsule. I have no clue about what I should do...
Thank you very much!! I didn't know you had to be in a specific mode to use the joint tool. Believe it or not everybody (even Maxon's) tutorials skipped that part.
So what are peoples opinions , Which is a better program cinema 4d or maya , currently working in maya and ive never used cinema thinking of changing over since maya at the moment appears to tad buggy and causing me issues.
@Regna I have never used maya, but from a production standpoint, maya is used more often and probably more documented - C4D has smaller support, and sometimes I feel like it lacks things and is pulped up (e.g. the stander interface is kind of useless apart from learning the program and doesn't have all tools easy to acces - forcing me to set up my own interface). On the other hand, C4D has a smaller learning curve, perhaps. . . I like it. Plus, there are people like me who make tutorials.
@JClayCast yea i donwloaded the demo and was playing around with it last night picking it up fairly i really like the interface its a lot less muddled than maya's by this i mean that so i havent forgotten where some thing is which is good ! and the dynamics work great i was trying to do a dynamics tutorial from a book i bought in maya and it was a nightmare so i tried to do it in this just going of the same principles and it worked out fine i didnt have one problem. enjoying it so far.
@JClayCast From an observation stand point C4D seems to be more popular amoungst motion graphic artist and some animators Maya is like special effects and modeling
@shrimpinpat Yes, Cinema 4D is often used for production graphics (TV add effects, etc.) while Maya is very popular among game film industries. Nevertheless, I started with C4D for games (low-poly modeling), and, even with the cons, I'm not making the switch. I tried the demo of Maya and the learning curve is too great to bother. . . plus, blender can do the same things and it's free. :)
first off GREAT video it shows the basic of the joint tools and is a great starter video. 2nd for people having problems with the "bind" tool make sure the object you are trying to mind to is editable! and make sure it is only 1 item at a time i find that help. with the new cinema 4d r12 there is no longer black and white its is colour scemed so the red'er it is means the black and the more blue it is the more white is acturly is. If you download somthing and you find the the bind are not....
Connected this is due to r12 models are change so there is no "bone tool" and will auto update all over verions of the bones system to joints so unless you go r12 you might be screwd ^^ sorry
@Reckreations Thank you for pointing that out - I have been able to use r12 some, though I choose to keep my current tutorials with r11. Yes, each bone has it's own color, so when you rig a complicated object and select all the bones, you see a rainbow of colors - though like the older version, the brighter the color, the more strength, and visa versa.
@GXMediaStudios Is the human, by any chance, composed of multiple objects? You cannot bind bones to multiple objects, though you can bind multiple bones to a single object. Hope this helps
@eXseedTheLimits did you make sure to select every joint? (right click on the root and click "select children")? Other than that I don't know - too vague a problem.
@eXseedTheLimits I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried it in r12 and it worked fine - ur mesh needs to be in editable mode, select the mesh and the root w/ joints, then go to Character > Commands > Bind. Worked for me, I tested with a simple cylinder and 2 joints, after I bound, I rotated a joint and it rotated the cylinder.
thank you thank you thank you thank you dude i've looked every where to figure this out and it wouldn't let me bind the joints to the object but your tut work your awesome i subbed keep up the good work
@TheSmogProductions Try quitting, starting up, and making random joints following the above tutorial. I fear that you might have to send Maxon a support email, since this seems like a technical error, not a user mistake.
@JClayCast oh no i know what i did wrong, turns out i did not click of the object before making joints which prevented them from poping out on the side bar...
@VLProduction1002 I assume you are importing it into C4D. . . I don't know anything about Maya. I can't recreate the issue, but maybe its an export problem. if not, just make sure the object is in editable mode (press "c") and under the default, press command to start placing the joints...
THANK YOU! Lord, every other c4d rigging video you click on is either silent and just the author showing off or doesn't actually explain anything. I want to yell "Just mention which buttons to click on and what order they come in", it's not so hard!
And yeah it gets cut off, but the facts are there. Thanks for saving me time trying to figure it out through trial and error.
Great, uploaded it and YouTube can't get the audio timed with the video, then re-uploaded and it cuts off the end. At least you don't learn anything new at the end, I'm just blabbing.
I cant even make a joint any suggestions?
