  • Nice video! It's priceless!

  • You have in your possession a piece of Cambodian history. Please preserve these slides. This is priceless.

  • what is this song called??? cam some1 please tell me, im trying to get it for my dad. song title. and singer name please

  • I still remembered the night we arrived in Khao I Deng. We slept under the sky. I was about 7-8 years old and the grass were at my knees. The first time I heard this song was in Khmer new year. Rumors had it that Choun Vanna sings this song 'cos her husband left her. Is it really Choun Vanna, the singer?

  • When did you arrive in Khao I Dang? I remembered taking the last bus ride with my mom from 007 Camp to KID. We have to be sick or pretend to be sick in order to ride the bus. The singer is Choun Vanna.

  • I could not tell you the exact date, but for sure at the end of 1979 because 1-2 months later, it was 1980.

At that time, we stayed in the border (cambodia side) called Kous Kyon (sorry for my khmer-english). I will always remember that day: there was a white man on the thai side asking people to take the bus but the cambodian nationalists told the people not leaving the motherland. We (people) were in the middle of soldiers, guns pointing at us (khmer-thai).

  • End

We were nerveous and the white man was so fed up and caught a child and put him into the bus and everybody rushed inside the bus. It was early afternoon. So as you can see, we didn't need to pretend to be sick, the white man almost beg us to take the bus. I guess he was a kind of international agency. The first white man I've seen in my life o:)

  • @lumieresrei yeah it's Mrs. Choun Vanna, she sang this song and others that are very memorable for people that passed through K.I.D. camp I was about 7 or 8 at the time when we were station at KID, but anyways my father was her khmer instructor, Mrs. Choun was Khmer illiterate she learn how to read in KID camp, as my family immigrated to the US so did she....

  • @lumieresrei hahahaha I experience the same thing. I was 8 years old.

In retrospect. introspect.. those were some hard time. I don't think my kids and friends can really understand want we went through there. Has anyone you reach the "New Camp" the first time during the 1978, and were sent back via Phnom Deng Rack? Her voice really express the feeling of that time. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • yeah, I used to chase the water truck too and go to the kai idang mountain to gather fire woods. sad sad sad time.

  • Yeah...brother. Its amazing how we manage to squeeze somewhat of a child hood in there thru games like marbles, bottle cab tossing (ga liang biang), coin tossing in a hole, tiger eat the cow board (kla see go), rubber band games (bpaign gow suu or flip flop toss at the rubber band -kumbp gow suu. Time we hard back then. But somehow we manage to keep our humanity to thru games. Instead of WII we got games. And water truck.

  • I am a sister... how do you pronoun your name? You brought back a lot of memories. I used to play all those games plus high jump and jump rope. You probably don't play these because they are more for girls. did you also played bye-kom and tres(chop stick). those were hard time indeed... nice talking to you...

  • Sister, I was a player back then. I play all kinds of game back then boys ones and girls ones too. I was a really good ..I mean I was really good at that high rubber band jump.
