Back in 1969 we rode the wave from around Fertilizers, past Steamers, and into the bay up to the only old hotel at that time on the bay, and it was recorded that time as well as being the longest wave...the only time you get some really big stuff to make it past the 2 points (what used to be Fertilizers and Steamers), was when the surf was over 6-8 feet, otherwise you couldn't make it past them. If it was smaller then you got the ride like what some of the posts are, just rolling along the bay.
The longest wave in the world, it is located at Chicama (Malabrigo) North of PERU. Average high 2~3 meters with more than 2 Km ( 1.3 miles) of length. A surfing Paradise.
Sorry abou the late reply. The book I got the information from is the World Stormrider's guide Vol II . It states, " The Guiness Book of Records certifies Las Islitas as the longerst wave in the world covering 5,700 ft. (2,250m) as it wraps Matanchen Bay.
Maybe when the book was published, they didn't consider the tidal bores to be waves, I just wrote what I saw.
The longest wave? Could you explain? The longest waves in the world are tidal bores. The longest ride to my knowledge was by a french/brasilian crew on the Quiantang silver dragon in China, in Oct last year, when they surfed over 10 miles. The longest ride on my local tidal bore was by Steve King in 06, of 7.4 miles. The official Guinnes world record is held by Serginho Laus on the Pororoca atabout 6.9 miles.

Well, you got your info from a credible source, fair enough. Yeh, Guinness DO consider tidal bores to be waves, some of which are wider than 4-5000 metres, breaking for more than 40 km. The record set by Sergio Laus that I mentioned is accredited by Guinness to some very strict rules, which specifically state that it must be on a single wave. But whatever,2km is one hell of a long break.

1,737.10 m equals 5,700 ft
8,202 ft Chicama is better sea conditions can reach 13,123 ft
Pororoca talk about, that occurs in extreme conditions is like we speak of Chicama in a Tsunami or a storm that may reach 164,042 ft. travel.

tidal bores arent waves, there...tidal bores

Tidal bores are solitons...which is a form of wave. Non-standard wave for sure, but a wave nonetheless.
