I just love when ben says, "Because he's the only one that will have me."
It made me remember how Ben used to be so mysterious, so powerful in his ways, but slowly but surely detriorated. I wouldn't call him pitiful in this scene... actually, I would, but you -do- feel sorry for him.
Holy fucking crap! Up until now all I've ever seen are videos (I've never seen the show) showing how evil Ben is (and yes, he is INDEED evil!) Those videos only make this one that much better. I love the fact that Ben DOES have a great deal of humanity in him, and that he isn't the stereotypical psychopath. Now I want to watch this show even more!
I'd like to point out, the purge was ordered by Widmore, NOT Ben! Masterful acting by Emerson here. Also, Zuleikha is so good here, it should be mentioned, and unbelievably mindblowingly hot :P
@jarpasmannen I couldn't agree more. I mean, seriously, Mad Men? It's a decent show, but it's pretty much a soap opera! And Matthew Fox was amazing in The End. Yeah, he was just okay for the first few seasons, but after Through the Looking Glass he actually became great. Personally, I think Nestor Carbonell should've been nominated for Supporting Actor for Ab Aeterno, and should have won it too. And 24 winning for music, what was up with that?! I believe Lost was snubbed for being Sci-Fi.
i love how when ben throws the shovel away and starts running he's like "screw this! i'm out of here!". i didn't think it was possible for me to love ben any more than i already do but this scene makes me love him all the more. BENJAMIN LINUS = LOVE
Ilana just realizes a very important thing. With Benjamin Linus on your side, you might just get through the fires of hell unscathed. That and I really think she feels for him. Emerson is quite the precious gem. How many actors could break your heart like that?
@FroggyQC23 actually, according to the official encyclopedia (if it wasn't clear in the show, which I thought it kind of was), Widmore ordered the Purge of Dharma, not Ben
I love this episode, and the contrast it has to episode 409; The Shape Of Things To Come. In this episode, in Ben's flash sideways, we see him give up his chance to become principal for Alex's future. Which is ironically the decision he would've made if he could go back in time when Keamy had a gun to her head.
This scene is so powerful! Not only because of the fine acting skills of Michael Emerson, but also because of the way Emerson has portrayed Ben throughout the show, to be a manipulative bad guy, whereas here, your heart just goes out for him! Brilliant <3!
This is one of my absolute favorite scenes ever!!!! Michael Emerson is the absolute best actor on television, just give the guy another Emmy already. There will never be another character like Ben.
this is such a powerful scene and is possibly my favorite scene of Seasons 6 so far, it just tears at your heart strings and you can't help but feel for Ben, and know that he is a person with feelings, but the saddest part is that it took the death of Alex for him to become a better person
Oh and this reminds me of the ending scene in Heroes 1x17 (Company Man) - between Noah and Claire. Very different story and setting, but the powerful dramatic acting is very moving.
@maveholic You're joking, right? Terry O'Quinn is an acting genius. His work this season and in seasons before has been BEYOND all realms of incredible. If you can't see that, then you must not be actually watching the show....
@bubbles459 I'm not joking and I do watch every episode... you have your opinions and I have mine. His John Locke was emmy worthy when he won them, but his MIB and alternate universe characterizations come nowhere close to those points.
Make your case to the awards staff if you disagree so much.
@maveholic oh dear sweet maveholic, I don't think you know what ignorance means. Now go wash out your mouth and maybe you'll turn into an actual human being.
@davenuge it did mine also, I was tearing up the entire time, but the part that made me really got the tears flowing was "Because he's the only one that will have me"
Lol this transcribe audio thing is hilarious, "Because he's the only one that'll have me" transcribes as "it's his fifth amendment privilege that it" ... um hwhat?
I have to be honest, when I watched this the night it aired I cried...Great acting by both Michael Emerson and the actress who plays Illana. Also, Michael Giacchino's great music makes it all the more emotional.
I really love this scene but I can't get past how Illana reminds me a little of Ana Lucia.
Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a coincidence that both actresses playing Ana and Illana kind of look similar... but is there a possibility that Illana might be Ana Lucia's sister?
Absolutely, without a doubt, the best scene of the whole of season 6 thus far. Utterly wonderful, pulls right on the heartstrings, and if Michael Emerson doesn't get an award for his work this season I will be incredibly surprised.
Absolutely amazing scene. Emerson, for the second time (after the "I have to go say goodbye to my daughter" line from TSotTC) has had been in tears with just one line. You really feel for him, and he's clearly being genuine, quite a rare thing from Ben Linus.
Kudos too to Zuleika Robinson. She's great in this scene. Just from her face you can see how she goes from anger to shame to understanding.
One of the few moments in Lost that affected me emotionally...I actually cried a little :( it shows how he's really not a bad guy, in fact he's much more human than he would ever have admitted had Alex lived.
such a great scene!! idk if its just me but they would look so CUTE together!! like if their characters fell in love!!! i might be thinking silly but i want these two characters to be together now!! shed be good for ben! =D
I was moved by Michael Emerson's performance like so many of you. He is a truly amazing actor. But in watching it over again, I realize what an interesting character Ilana is too. And what a fine actress she is too. Let's see more of her too!
Another Emmy or Michael Emerson!!! This scene, this whole episode was gold! The way Ben pleads with Ilana would make another character seem pathetic, but not Ben. It makes him human and even more intriguing. I love Ben Linus!
It means she accepts his apology and he can stay with their group. Whether that's because she is truly ready to forgive him or because she knows it's way better to have Ben with you than against you is unclear for now. Probably both. But I like to think that what he said made a deep impact (considering she had tears in her eyes) and she probably feels the same way to a certain extent. Either hat or she totally has the hots for him which would also be understandable LOL.
And this is why Ben is and always will be my favorite character on LOST. Michael Emerson is so amazing. This scene is flawless and beautiful. Brought a few tears to my eyes... =)
Thanks for posting this aadrienns. Michael Emerson and Zuleikha Robinson were truly superb in this scene. The best moment on Lost so far. Kudos. *gives 5 stars*

Ben is like, 'The hell with the girl eating the mango, I'm getting my ass otta here!' LOL Ben needed a boost out of the pit, so the shovel over the shoulder is just comedic brilliance. Great scene between Ben and Ilana. For once, I started to feel bad for Ben.
Does anyone find it funny how Ben tosses the shovel and runs? XD
Definitly one of Lost's truly moving moments on the show and a major plot/character turn as well. I did not expect Ilana to forgive him. I actually thought Ben would join with Locke. incredible scene. the emotion between the two actors is touching. emerson is a great character, once again. but ilana is fast becoming one of my favourites . shes such a noble and beautiful woman. im glad shes in the show.
She's becoming one of my favorites too. She's so strong and beautiful. And what she did for Ben was the biggest gift he has ever received, forgiveness. And that makes her ever more wonderful.
By far my favorite scene in the entire series. It's perfect.
I'm thrilled with the comments for this video. One of my all time favourite scenes from the entire series and I'm loving that everyone else feels the same way. Hard to believe that he was once Henry Gale. He's been such an incredible character. It's going to be really sad to see the show leave.
Amazing scene, makes me want to give Ben a big hug... He lost everything and stayed completely alone only with his feeling of guilt... Good that Ilana will have him :)
BTW, Michael Emerson's acting is just brilliant. This is his another outstanding monologue, as good as this one he gave in the scene of Jacob's death. Love it!
Naw then he would have been a jerk and be a pawn for Locke. No real redemption for Ben. This scene shows he finally is sorry for his deeds and is done being manipulated, choosing a side finally and done with his power. Best scene in the episode.
There are so many scenes in Lost that make my heart sink.

Love it!

Such an amazing scene. When she said "I'll have you," oh it was beautiful. You don't often get a character at once so hardcore but also so kind.

BEST SCENE of the whole episode not including (THE REUNION)! I wish Ben would have pulled the trigger, lol.

Naw then he would have been a jerk and be a pawn for Locke. No real redemption for Ben. This scene shows he finally is sorry for his deeds and is done being manipulated, choosing a side finally and done with his power. Best scene in the episode.
