He will never replace Mick Dempsey though. Don't get me wrong. I like both of them. They've just got individual styles that are both great but different. There would be no "Boys Don't Cry" without Dempsey and his throbbing bass.

Michael was a SUPER bass player .I really enjoy his basslines in "Three imaginary boys" album.

But let's be fair to say that without Simon Last Dance, Sinking, Halo, Close to me, etc. wouldn't exist.

Both are great musicians.

I agree. I'm glad I didn't get any thumbs down (yet?). Simon's been a totally important part of The Cure, but again, like you, I don't think Mick should ever be downplayed. He was there at the extremely important point of the band getting their first popularity, paving the way for things to come.

I don't disagree. Michael Dempsey is a great bassist. However, nobody can replace Simon Gallup as far as The Cure as a group is concerned. I am not comparing both. But Simon's presence in the band is more than just a bass player. He is more in tune with The Cure's songs, is a better musical partner for Robert and this reflects in his bass playing as well. It was quite the opposite in the case of Michael when he was in The Cure. This led him to leave the group, eventually.
