You can't apply the effects of quantum mechanics to macroscopic objects. If you do that, you're betraying a deep misunderstanding of the science. What McTaggart is doing is seizing on vague similarities between quantum principles and things in the realworld and spinning it into New Age hogwash.

Firstly, the Big Bang theory describes the beginning of the universe, not the Earth.

Secondly, the fact that live almost 50 years longer than we used to thanks to medicine, that we can communicate at the speed of light and can send spacecraft to Neptune with to-the-second accuracy suggests that science is at least getting something right. Science can't tell us everything, but it doesn't pretend to be able to.

Belief can change hardly anything. Ask any inmate at an insane asylum.

If this "Cycle Theory" really exists, then it's hidden very well. And if it really reveals what you claim it does, wouldn't you say that it's in our best interests that you provide us with more information?

In science, "Theory" doesn't mean the same thing it does in ordinary language. For an idea (an hypothesis) to become a theory in science, it has to be supported by mountains of evidence and be able to explain real world phenomena accurately.

Some things that are called "theories" today (such as the "theory" of Intelligent Design) do not fit this description.

In The Field there is a chapter about Karl Lashly and Karl Pibram who discovered that there are no specific function areas in the brain. it is plausible that someone who 'nearly' dies is not actually dead therefore, they are still alive, so following from that does it sound unreasonable that someone could still hear things going on! also the observer?? in order to observe a particle in a test experiment, you have to interact with it in some way we are observing it yes, but we observe it by shining light on it, etc therefore the 'wave function' collapses because something interacts with the particle.

As for the observer - yes, you have re-stated the observer effect accurately. It was derived from Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle which stated that you cannot know an electrons position and velocity at any given point in space/time, only one or the other, due to the fact that making the observation to see where it is or how fast it is moving changes it's position or velocity by bouncing a photon (light particle) off it.

Lynn talks about retroactively affecting people in a grocery store to walk more often in a certain direction. I find the most fun situation to do these kinds of experiments is on a dance floor, preferably one filled with people who dance as a means of self expression, such as at a 'rave'. Everyone there is already moving in response to their subconscious so it's much easier to influence people's motions and the results can be much more amusing than a simple change in walking direction. Try it!:)
