  • Porter Wagoner robbed.

  • Wonderful track from a wonderful album ; usual Byrds standard

  • great song

  • I reckon they'd been listening to "Can't Buy Me Love" by the Beatles...

  • You can bet your ass that it can get you a very fast car and a very hot babe.

  • @blueticecho Lose the money, you lose the car and the babe, hence the point of the so--ah nevermind.

  • @blueticecho Never having had any measurable amount, I'll bet my Ass that it can get you a very hot car and a very fast babe... who will leave you even faster when another Punter comes along. Probably with STD's!.

  • I love this song!

    Great UPLOAD!

    Thank YOU

    Maria

  • Released as a single? No, I dont think so...my favorite American band. I would know..!

  • @MePJtheDJ Yes, mine too. Special band

  • absolutley love this song, also sang by porter wagner and the man himself johnny cash!!

  • great song

  • One of my faves. The thing that strikes me when listening to it now is: Take a look at the current Billboard 100. Can you name ONE artist on it that you think would be likely to sing (let alone write) lyrics like this, with these same sentiments?

  • I need the Hank snow version

  • verry nice!!!

  • happy birthday david crosby

  • @shaneh1983 Maybe he'll get another liver for a gift. He must be due for a replacement by now again.

  • This is great. I had no idea they experimented with country this early on. Sounds more like a 67 or 68 song. Regardless, thanks for posting!

What a great message, even moreso today, than in 65.

  • What's with all the pictures of douchebaggery, i doubt the song was literally about acquiring wealth.

  • There's a guy named David Fenley here in Texas that has an incredible version...check it out on Google.

  • great song

  • I didn't know this famous rock group did this country song. It had first been a country hit about ten years prior. Joe Red Hayes stated that this song was composed of things his mother had told him, over the years. Jack Rhodes owned a studio in Mineola, Tx where Red Hayes cut his version. Then Porter Wagner covered it for the big hit (I beleive). Hayes wrote a lot of fine songs after he departed Mineola for Odessa, TX. He also played in several famous bands including w/ Hank Thompson & H. Nix.

  • What a great song!

  • There's an awesome version on Cruisin Dueces by Danny Gatto sung by Billy Windsor.

  • @Bifrons *Gatton

  • great song

  • Didn't know the Byrds did this. Another version became a big hit, on the country charts.

  • awesome song

  • i think jeff buckley's version is better...

  • @s3ll3na4 cant beat jeffs version of it. its the best. ever. in history. of everything.

  • I forgot to mention before, but, these pics are great!Well done! Was this released? I was 14 in 65 and sure cannot remember this at all.Kinda strange for a rock band to do country, wasn't it?What beautiful harmony!

  • @estelle715 Yes, it was released and is on "Turn! Turn! Turn" LP and probably some later compilations. Indeed, wonderful harmonies.

  • I never heard this before. They do a great job!

  • Dylan's version (on Saved) is a pretty dam* Fantastic version too!! In fact, listen to it and you'll think Dylan is Channeling Porter!

  • @R21951 I love Bob's version!!!

  • The song WAS written by Jack Rhodes and J Red Hayes...Wagoner recorded it only.

  • Best version of this song. Jingle Jangle at its best. One of the first alt-country song.

  • johnny cash covered this. it was in kill bill 2

  • I have the Porter Wagoner 78 for this song. nomatter how cool the Byrds are, I prefer Porter Wagoner's version of this song.

  • Sorry, written by Hayes/Rhodes. Earlier country hit by Porter Wagoner.

  • great song

  • love mcguinn's rickenbacker in this song- same tone as set you free this time

  • Does anyone find it ironic that they were making millions when this record came out?

LOL but this is a good song. I love the Byrds!

  • Who wrote this ? what was the original ?

  • The original was sung and written by Porter Wagoner. The Byrds cover is much better with their unique harmony skills.

  • truely a masterpiece!!

  • Great Byrds cover!

  • It's not a cover, it's the original.

  • I don't think so. I'm quite sure it was written by Joe Hayes.

  • This song was written by Rhodes and Hayes (Starrite Music)

  • How true. But having money does feel good, doesn't it?

  • @WolfieVilans I know people say you dont need money for friends....but its definately impossible in north American culture

  • @WolfieVilans Nobody's denying that, but this song just relays and reinforces that it doesn't buy you peace of mind.
