  • @33shreder This video was made one year ago. At that time there were no microphones on the market for sale. This is something for the DIY-man/woman

    .

For the rest of you: - Go out and buy a microphone!

  • @33shreder - Yeah, but can you manipulate technology?

  • Does the sleeve on the TRRS contain 2.7V DC?

Because when I measured my the sleeve on my TRRS, it has no voltage at all for the mic.... so it doesn't work.

    help please!

  • @darkcurrent

  • Great song!! What the name of the song

  • Presidents of the United States of America- Video Killed the Radio Star

  • @Joan6856 a little late but its called video killed the radio star by the buggles

  • not usefull

  • I have a black one of those white speakers :D

  • ok thank u very much! u explained it exactly how it should be! great helpful vid!

  • i really like this! good song too! ok i have a spare set of headphones without mic and a small mic from some older one! i saw that you soldered positive to positive ans so on but my headphone wires has 4 wires inside the jack cord! so i was wondering if the mic positive lead goes to positive of left earphone wire and negative from mic goes to negative of right earphone wire negative?

  • Unfortunately there are some problems with text on youtube - it appears one day and disappear the other. The text says that the connection for the headphone is from the top:

left, right and ground. If you have four wires in the headphone cord, use your a 1,5 V battery to find get "the phase" right.

Look at the microphone, the red wire is the "hot wire". "Hot wires" are connecter to the positive point.

  • I am now going to buy a mic thanks to this video

  • was that a roach clip u were using to hold the mic together?

  • so i need to buy the earphone cord and on 2 of the wires attach a mic? and Nice Video

  • inhave the same speaker and earphone

  • I am considering getting a Shotgun mic for my Ipod Touch!

    Would that work?

    Thanks

  • The microphone capssula must be the electrete microphone type - then it works.

  • If it has an XLR output, no.

  • Damn my dude haven't heard this song in a long ass time!!! RADIO KILL A RADIO STAR! Im tottaly gonna subscribe to you :) 5*

  • excellent upload

I just want to get my mic working on my Gen 2 touch.

Cant get any mics going ,but im still on version 2.2.1

do u think I need to get version 3 update??

  • how much money does it cost to buy an ipod touch microphone and where do i get it?

  • Apple sell them now.

  • I have a 2g iPod and it works fine - I have tested three different microphones. Now I have version 3.1.2 and there are no problems whatsoever.

  • hey when u updated ur ipod did it cost u money?

  • iPhone 3.0 Software Update for iPod touch = 7.99 Euro

  • Hey is this fake or some thing bc i dont get it

  • Comment removed

  • No, it's not fake. You can plug a microphone into the 2nd Gen iPod Touch and record audio.

  • get a 2g

  • Hey how do you make this work?? I have a mic, speaker and the headphone Jack with 3 rings for the mic

  • I still don't get how to make it work

  • I use the microphone with Skyp.app, which makes my iPod touch a FREE telephone.

  • yo bro will the iphone mic work for ipod touch ? to talk

  • unforunately there are too few connetors iinside and apart fråm that the headphoner would short cut the microphone.

  • hey would a headphone splitter work for a mic/ earphone thing? (mic in one side and the earphone in other?)

  • I don´t remember which application I used. StudioApplite, Recrde, QuickVoice works fine.

  • what app is that you are recording from your ipod?

  • Whats the name of the song you played?

  • The name of the song is:

    Video killed the Radio Star.

    Search for it on YouTube!

  • great quality

  • hey men i got a microphone from a handsfree set from nokia of my dad but i dont have a mic jack like that.,

can you buy that in stores and what is it called?

    sorry for my bad english

  • This is the difficult part. I have a Sony Digital8 - camera (DCR-TRV 125E PAL) with a AV-cable with the four contacts.

I also found a headset with one microphone and one earphone intended for a mobile phone - fleemarket - 1 Euro!

  • Great video! I had trouble to get 4 contact audio connector, so i remaked 3 conntact connector to 4(really hard job). Finally i got 4x2 sm thing with connector for ipod on one side and 2 holes on the other side(for mic and speakers). Respect to you.

  • хорошо! спасибо тебе bOxer233!

  • yea i know,i'm from croatia and i didnt fint where to buy mic

but i think that i have few of electret microphones,i will try again

    tnx m8 :)

  • Best of luck, ket450! I never throw an electrical components away that works. In the future when you buy a computer, the computer itself is the spare part.

  • that's right :)

i didnt found taperecorder, but i found really old phone i i tried if that mic would work and it really works :O

    and sound is clear :):)

  • Excellent ket450! I´t a great pleasure to do something yourself. I use my microphone when I sing in in a choir - the iPod touch is a real small recording studio. If you don´t have a choir you can make one by means of the free "StudioApp lite".

  • yes:)

    okay thanks a lot :)

  • can you connect a normal mic for the computer?or do u must have different jack?

  • At the time I made this video there was no microphone available on the market and this video is a hint for anyone with some technical skill and who can handle a soldering iron.

As I mentioned before not just any microphone will do, it must be an electret microphone. I am very happy with my mike and I´m not going to buy any microphone with headset in a shop. My mike is just fine!

  • how did you make this ..?

  • good job, easy fast free, smart

  • How and where do i get the so called microphone you are using inexpensively?

  • You can find a microphone in an old cassette recorder. Check out a service shop!

  • Masterguy You Have 2g or 1g???

  • I don´t know Masterguy, but I myself I have a second generation iPod touch. I can´t do this trick on the first generation iPod touch.

  • Did Is For 1g or 2g??

  • is this a 2nd gen??

  • I have the same speakers.

  • whats the song in the vid

  • Good question - because I like it. However the song is just the sound from the live broadcast on a Spanish radio.

  • i found out its Video Killed The Radio Star

  • No shit, did you not know that already.. Wow.. Retard..

  • ooooooooooooor you could just go buy one from walmart

  • Excuses me for asking but is this microphone for the 1 generation ipod touch?

  • Unfortunately the first generation iPod touch doesn't support external microphones.

  • No fair ! Why did I have to buy the first gen :(

  • How to do - step 1:

The connector comes from an AV-cable designed for my old Sony video camera. With a pear of pliers I cut this cable and split the four wires. The blue box is the case of a relay - any box will do. I drilled one hole on the top of the box for the microphone connector, a female RCA and another hole on the side for the stereo headphone connector. I soldered the two wires to the RCA connector and the three wires to the stereo headphone connector.

  • How to do - step 2:

Since one wire is shared, a short piece of wire is required. The two connectors were tightened inside the box.

The microphone was connected (soldered) to male RCA connector. The black part between the microphone and the connector i a crimp tape. If you put the soldering iron under the tace it will crimp and it also becomes less flexible.

  • How to do - step 3:

I connected the microphone and the headphone to the box tho check the functionality before I filled the box with a two component glue.

You can also skip the two RCA connectors and put the microphone inside the box. The RCA connectors enables me to test different microphones.

  • What's the name of this Recording-Software?

  • The software is a free application from Apple store: iTalk. Another free applicatoin is QuickVoice from the same source.

  • Note:

    1. The microphone signal input is also used for the remote control of the iPod thoch.

    2. The iPod touch needs a certain current to detect if a microphone is connected or not.

If you connect a resistance - ca 8 kOhm to the input, iPod touch thinks that a microphone is connected. An interesting thing is that you can also put this resistor in serial with the microphone in order to reduce the signal strength from the microphone.

  • Remember that iPod touch delivers 2.73 Volt to the electret microphone. If you try to connect a microphone which should NOT be powered, try to connect a capacitor of let´s say 10 microFarad in serial with that microphone.

  • hello, i am trying to do exacactly the same but whit a shure mic, cause i want outstanding sound quality, but when i plug it, the ipod doesent have signal, but when i do it whit cheap mic it works, will i be able to do it whit my shure mic?
