  • great; the whale was fun to fly, but I much preferred the stretch B727...the 747 was very easy to land smoothly, the 727 was much harder to get a grease job out of....

  • hey learjetjock, he took off with max EPR, the takeoff weight must have been under 500,000 lbs I'm guessing...they'll jump off the runway....now at 830,000lbs thats another story.....the piggyback levers on the bottom of the pilots throttles are for the F/E to adjust power

  • Thanks for sharing what a job!! Had 4 lessons I'll stick to cessnas!!

  • great video!!! but can you explain to me what the levers on the back side of the throttles are? reversers? looks a little different from the other Boeings

  • short takeoff!!

  • Yes, 747-200, N713CK, originally a China Air aircraft.

"Going direct Canarsie", the noise-sensors are VERY sensitive in that area, and if you don't turn toward Canarsie NDB immediately at 400 feet you run the risk of a noise violation. Hence my comment to Dave that I was indeed turning.

  • What is it like to take a 747 off? My response: Well, you have the seat puckerd up your rear end. That airplane uses every inch or centimeter of the runway most of the time, so you are always scared. But if all goes well, you reach rotation speed and pull back. The controls on Boeing jets are WAY heavier than flight sim controls from places like Saitek.

  • @Flies2FLL Was that a 747-200? When the planes landed on 31L, it was a great view of them from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn.

  • If I am correct, these planes have 18,000hp X four engines; hence the amazingly quick take-off pace.

  • Now that was a hell of a short takeoff roll for a 747... Before KK intersection! Impressive. We couldnt even do that in the Jungle Jet on a ferry up to BDL once. You Atlas guys sure do get some interesting flying.

  • How did you get up there in the cockpit????

  • crazy huh, it takes me half of the time driving hehe, without traffic of course, if u put a few 747 together in a line you will probably get there... hehehe

  • Nice video! Why would they use a 747 on a short flight?

  • tinarocks98 dis ocur cos dis Jersey Air, dey fly da 747 from JFK to Newark once day wid da 747-200. It costo $87 dollar n last 10minotes but it wort da fly cos it more quicker dan drive. poplar root for dem peples want fly JFK na Newark. go Jersey Air, go Jersey Air yeh fagots dem halal rpaies

  • The company needed a 747 for military freight out of Newark, and wanted us to ferry the plane over there. I would have just trucked the freight across town, but the government works in mysterious ways.

What the hell, it was a nice afternoon, I had nothing to do, and I was happy when scheduling called me, I kind of felt like doing some flying. Fly a 747 across town? How cool is that assignment!

  • Wow that was like only slightly over a 3,000' takeoff run!

  • These JT9Ds sound great.

  • Quite supprised how quickly you moved the thrust levers to the engine stable posistion, Am i right by saying you stabalise the power at around 70% N1 ? Looks like you had some fun, lol

  • Was this airline CKS (Kalitta) b/c i no that flight path and how it passes by my house really low.

  • That'S amazing. They have no flaps in, and are able to rotate before even coming off the displaced threashold...

  • It was a flaps 15 takeoff.

  • Really? I must need my eyes examined, it looks like the flap lever is all the way forward.

  • Wait a minute. the 747 doesn't have a flaps 15 setting.. It's 1,5,10,20,25, and 30

  • And I should have realized that You had at least 10 Degree's of flap set, otherwise the T/O warning horn would have sounded, which it did not.. Sorry I got hit in the head with a boom on a catamaran this weekend. Must have been a little too hard :)

  • Yes, that's true. We were able to rotate like that because we were empty. The takeoff weight was around 600,000 poundS, and we have a 100,000 pound minimum flight weight for weight and balance reasons, which means that the airplane cannot legally take off weighing less than 467,000 pounds. Fuel in JFK is much more expensive than over in New Jersey [I don't make the rules...I just fly the airplanes], so they have us make these flights.

    N!

    -This was why

  • You also got your full thrust T/O in for the month :)

  • No...the plane came out of Hong Kong earlier that week. Since we were usually overloaded coming out of there...I'm certain someone gave it a "Max Power" notation in the maintenance log.

  • Flying a plane seems so hard but so fun! Planes Rule!

  • 31L departure is the greatest. Especially the left bank.

  • very cool engine sound, i like it :)

  • Nice Takeoff, what is a ferry flight? I love 747s! They rock!

  • FERRY FLIGHT - A flight for the purpose of (1) returning an aircraft to base; (2) delivering an aircraft from one location to another; (3) moving an aircraft to and from a maintenance base. Ferry flights, under certain conditions, may be conducted under terms in a special flight permit.

  • Thankyou!

  • thanx for the video. I love anything to do with flying!

  • Short, but cool to view. Nice scenery. Wonder if it's

    a cargo 747.

  • what the ! :) you were off before the threshold ?? And man I'm loving that roarr sound taking over from the high pitch at higher revs :)

  • me 2

  • is that a Boeing 747-200?

  • Yes, N713CK

  • Very kewl. Make some more. Good CRM

  • haha just a ferry flight. YOu guys took it off max thrus, TO, empty plane, you guys were light and in the air very fast ! Nice video man!

  • the guy on the captain position doesn't look like a captain. Y DON'T he wear the captain unform?

  • What...and get my perfectly clean uniform dirty by wearing it in that filthy cockpit? Nope- black T-shirt time.
