I don't mind looking at other peoples idea's or inputs..its ok to be curious, I simply put that this guitar riff, its more leaned towards the bass. As I said before its played on the 7th and 5th fret and that is indeed how Tom plays it live. Not being a dickhead just a simple input..but someone can cover a song and play it the way the want and if sounds good more power to you..

both the original and this variation are slightly different. the major difference is in the tone, but the tone that is closest is higher up the frets utilizing the E string more. so this is close, but not it. iuts not totally incorrect, but its a start.

but speaking in terms of overall correctness, this is just near it. not perfect.

Yep! Joe Wild has definitely got the riff notes correct but I think that the riff played further up the neck as per Tom Morello sounds meatier and you can get better vibrato of course! It does however mean shifting position though to get the low G. Joe's version is a lot easier for beginners though so it certainly has it use! I do like the lesson from Tom himself on youtube - sounds quite "Hendrix" like - ace!

Haha! I actually didn't realize that Expert Village had been posting these on Youtube until about a month ago. I've been playing catch-up with the comments. I have two tattoos, one on my inner-left wrist and another on my outer-right wrist. The inner-left wrist is a diamond-shaped arrow pointing left/right. The outer-right wrist is the same arrow, but pointing up/down. Those are the directions your hands move when you play guitar. Thanks for watching!

Thanks, man! There are always different ways to do the same thing on guitar. My goal isn't to express the riff completely accurately to the original artist's way, but to get as many videos out there so that people will get inspired to play more. Sometimes, I can't quite figure out how to play a riff, so I use my best judgement, my ear, and I favor simplicity for the beginners. I take a lot of heat for it, but thanks for having my back :-)

it's still the same notes..Morello just plays them at different frets. This is the easiest way to play it. It will sound pretty much the same.

Wrong. Tom Morello plays it differently. There were some videos of him at the GuitarWorld studios, doing some demonstrations, not sure if they've been removed or not, but it showed you on there. This may be for beginning guitarists though.

ya instead of playing it open on the D string then hammering on the 2nd, he plays 5th on the A string and hammers on a 7
