As someone who was under the age of 21 when this was posted, I'll tell you two things, no.1 raising the age of drinking will simply result in more angry teens drunk in the streets. No.2 Putting up this tax made me binge drink twice as much because a 6 pack of vodka mixed drinks (8 standard drinks in all) were $25 and straight vodka in a bottle was $30 (30standard drinks). A bottle of champagine was $10.(12 ST) Which is a poor uni student gonna go for? It was a bad idea!

As someone who was under the age of 21 when this was posted, I'll tell you two things, no.1 raising the age of drinking will simply result in more angry teens drunk in the streets. No.2 Putting up this tax made me binge drink twice as much because a 6 pack of vodka mixed drinks (8 standard drinks in all) were $25 and straight vodka in a bottle was $30 (30standard drinks). A bottle of champagine was $10.(12 ST) Which is a poor uni student gonna go for? It was a bad idea!

Think about it from the government's perspective.
It lowers alcohol demand as a whole, thus consumption and this will of course lower teen binge drinking.
And people who continue to buy the drinks are funding the government exponentially.
It's unfortunate for the manufacturer and you if you enjoy a bourbon and coke, but frankly when did the govt start caring about your unhealthy wants?

It's the economy. The only real loss is people not being willing to pay such a fee for a premix.
Consumption of alcho-pops has fell 33%, so it's easy to assume some of that percentage is in fact teen drinkers.
He says about raising the drinking age "I believe in evidence based policy, and there is not evidence to suggest raising the drinking age would lower teenage drinking".
So it's unfortunate for people like FAB, nevertheless it is effective in lowering consumption as a whole.

There is no reason to penalise adults cos kids drink too much, its not the way to stop them drinking - maybe higher punishments for drinking under age or maybe educating ppl at a younger age about drinking would be better.
government use any excuse to raise taxes and particularly if they can say its for the benefit of the kids 'we doing it to save the kids...its just a coindence tax profit has gone up by millions of dollars'

How will raising the legal drinking age to 21 stop binge drinking amongst teenagers, if the problem is with 16 year olds? Wouldn't raising the drinking age create more underage drinkers, and not less?
Kids drink pre mixed drinks because its loaded with sugar and the taste of alcohol is masked. Wouldn't we be better off teaching them to drink responsibly by starting them on beer and wine? That way, those who dont hate the taste will drink because they like it, and not to get shitfaced.

They claim that it will make us think about going green and driving less. How does driving less benefit taxi drivers like me? I always have to work harder to make less money! This "going green" is only a cheap excuse for politicians to line their pockets. We'd save more fuel if they timed the traffic lights so you don't have to stop at every fucking corner...
