Well yes, but it's not the oxygen but the lack of circulation. Fruits produce carbon dioxide and methane which are what cause it to rot. Hence why if you keep fruits sealed up in a container with air, it will rot faster and also why the saying "one bad apple can ruin the bunch".

Imagine you being sealed in a room with no circulation. You'll sooner die of poisoning yourself with carbon dioxide before you run out of oxygen.

No problems. You know that slightly alcaholic twang you get when eating an over ripe banana? That's the ethylene. Bananas produce it seemingly more than other fruit which is why they advise storing them seperately.
