@grado1000 Yeah, careful of the clutch. its easy to burn it with the power this car has. I blew my engine and as the dealership was installing the new engine i had them put in a clutch from ACT (zx4-hdss) but i did not like it and the dealership didn't install it right which caused it to go out after only 4k miles so i went back to stock. And stock is fine for me since i only have cold air intake as an upgrade. Feel free to ask questions.
@chickybumlook How did you blow your engine?! That's horrible. What was the damage and how did they fix it? Also, which CAI do you have? I was thinking of the Mazdaspeed one only because I don't want to void my warranty. Otherwise, AEM is another choice. What do you think? Also, do you have any issues with hydrolocking etc?
@grado1000 I down shifted from third to 2nd and tried taking off and it threw a rod. I took it to mazda and warranty covered it. I have the injen CAI but converted to the cobb one since the injen one was low and could suck up water easily. You can use and CAI but if you ever take it to the dealer you will have to put the stock intake on or else ....VOID WARRANTY. Cobb intake is nice. I was told turbos like short intakes. and never had any hydrolocking issues.

Alright, in light of all the smart-ass responses (which were probably deserved) I would like to offer a public apology to the driver and owner of this mazadaspeed3. After several reviews of this and other videos, I determined that I was wrong to suggest that this video was fake. I also took my own mazdaspeed3 out for a drive, and although mine is completely stock, I was able to achieve decent results. His has a CAI which makes this video understandable.
@cesantos123, the reason why the OP was able to pull well and steady was due to his early shifting, to keep the power at its optimal level. You really shouldn't shift any higher than 5500 rpm, or even 5000 rpm. Especially the 1st gen gets power loss sooner at higher rpm's so it's crucial.
@cesantos123 u cant go 155mph on jacks, the tires would fly off... Also, you can clearly hear the road noise... come on dude get real take the conspiracy foil cap off
@cesantos123, maybe he was on a smooth road. Maybe he kept the camera facing the instruments so you can see how the speed goes up gradually in which the MS3 excels. Not losing speed between shifts? it's called good momentum. And lastly, you are a troll.
@chickybumlook I've seen this video countless times and am consistently amazed by your shifting. How do you do it so smoothly and quickly? Especially with the revs up so high?? What's your secret? ;) I've only driven stick for 8 months or so but I still think I should be able to shift decently quickly/smoothly at higher rpms but am having trouble with it.
@grado1000 Thanks man. I spent hours of driving when i bought this car trying to get used to it . Its not a very easy car to shift either but just drive it and Just like with everything you've gotta practice. Try this.... When shifting don't take your foot off the gas peddle all the way and also you don't need to push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor either. And buy some solid aluminum shifter spacers and a rear engine motor mount. It'll help your shifting.

It is extremely difficult to shift smoothly compared to the older model for some reason. I tried driving it like mine and only got annoyed with the whiplash i was giving myself.

@lugiei The 2010 is a very good car regardless (I own one). Yes, it has a slightly slower 0-60, but it completes the quarter mile faster than the first generation. I definitely enjoy it. My only real complaint would be that the clutch engagement is rather abrupt which makes it a little more difficult to drive smoothly in some instances.
@lugiei sti's are electronically limited to 155 mph........so the same as this. Plus speed 3's take an extra second on the 0-60, and they're also fwd...which sucks dick.
get a aluminum flywheel, hks exhaust with a cobb sport reflash and you probly get there faster. with out putting a hole in ur pocket. or just get the gt30r upgrade with FMIC nice car
2nd gen ms3 will be faster than the 1st gen ms3 at triple digits.. 1st gen will drop power significantly at 5500 rpm so it will take much longer time to reach top speed of 155. 2nd gen will be faster cause it stays on boost longer due to the difference in the tuning and taller gears. Power is good till 5800 rpm. you want a fast 100~ 150 mph get the second gen. 1st gen sucks.
stock, the 2g has a longer powerband - yes...but note that the 1g kills the party early only because the ebc cuts boost (stupid mazda electronics). My 1g flashed with the AP holds the peak to redline. Either way tho, you just gotta find the sweet-spot to shift. And btw, my 08 actually is a bit faster than my bro's 2010 - when both at stock of course.

ok let me tell you, from a mechanics point of view your all idiots. 155 for a car with a 23000 dollar price tag is pretty decent. horsepower is not everything. you also have to look at the gearing in both the transmission and the differential. with 2000 bucks you can make those eat GT mustangs alive. we had a modded one at the mazda dealership i work at. trust me they are bad ass little cars.

Has anybody raced against a 335i or hr350z with your ms3 yet? I raced against an 135i to 140 and I beat it by a fender. I was still pullin' but we had to shut down cause of the approaching traffic. btw, i own a 2010 ms3 this car is fast.

this car is without a doubt a very good bang for your buck, i can speak from experience that the interior is very nice aswell...
mine you its no BMW/Audi/Merc
however for 23-30grand (Canadian) your picking up a very speedy daily driver.

ok let me tell you, from a mechanics point of view your all idiots. 155 for a car with a 23000 dollar price tag is pretty decent. horsepower is not everything. you also have to look at the gearing in both the transmission and the differential. with 2000 bucks you can make those eat GT mustangs alive. we had a modded one at the mazda dealership i work at. trust me they are bad ass little cars.

Definitely NOT fake, you can tell the way it picks up speed and changes gear. Those cars are very under rated and really do shift. I would have one!

I don't think the video is meant to show the 40-120 speed as much as it's showing that a taller 5 door hatch can hit 155 with less than 250whp.

Not trying to sound biased but um, firstly, no an Accord will not go 155 (specs: 271 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque in a 3600lb car Top speed 130)... Only Honda even close is an S2000 (150) Secondly... "Slow to 155"? Compared to what...? Just asking what in this cars class is considered "Fast"?

it's only 0.2 seconds slower from 80 to 120kmh than a porsche 911, not saying it is that close all the way but it is way underrated by people who have never driven it (and can drive it)

This is a fake. When shifting a 6 speed manual the spedo needles is going to jump a little not run up to 155 all smooth and consistant. And since the 6 speed is the only thing they put in this car. Fake. I have a speed 3 and it will get to 155 but this is BS

Has anybody raced against a 335i or hr350z with your ms3 yet? I raced against an 135i to 140 and I beat it by a fender. I was still pullin' but we had to shut down cause of the approaching traffic. btw, i own a 2010 ms3 this car is fast.

Went car shopping this past feb. my decision was down to a subaru wrx or a ms3. Im SO glad i got my subie. All Wheel Drive and my hood scoop. ill murdalize ms3 all day, along with bmw 335 mustang gts etc. SUBARU IS THE KING OF KINGS get it right

to bad the tranny is complete shit. My buddy had an evo with 420 wheel id take my STI over it any day.His tranny went and he sold it. I was still on my stock clutch with 62,000 miles and 450whp 470wtq.
