Vietnam- same damn thing, and we left there with 58,000+ dead

War on drugs- Um..fail

1st gulf war- Didn't finish it so we came back later

2nd Gulf war- still going on but other than killing saddam have we brought peace to the region? No

It's really funny to see how those recruitment adds are different in all countries.

The Japanese ones are about to serve and to help, Dutch ones about how useful and full of teamwork the army, air force and nay are and so on.

I guess it really depends on what kind of people you want to recruit or what kind of history a country has or the current developments are taking place in the world.

well Japan only has a "self defence force" that is strictly regulated since WW2 by the rest of the world. It's basically a welfare force, and they dont go into war. In Europe the armies are different.

No. In fact the current interpretation of Japan's Constitution's prohibition of involuntary servitude is written in such a way to discourage a draft without amendments. In fact, this interpretation is one reason why retention of personnel is so hard....like civilians in a regular job...they can technically quit anytime they want. There have also been cases of people graduating from Japan's National Defense University with its free education and then refusing commissioning after graduation.
