Stepping on someone's foot or head butts is not illegal if it is not done intentionally and it usually happens when a southpaw fights an orthodox. it certainly looks dirty, but i don't think so because of a few things: if U notice, a lot of times, they're stepping at the same time; Marquez was trying to time him. why not simply hit him instead of stepping on his foot? also, there's the risk of injury to Marquez, if he turns his ankle, which is normal in sports. if it's intentional and he misses, maybe he gets knocked out. Mainly, though, Marquez is too smart and Manny's too dangerous for that. just my opinion...

The foot stopper is used just to avoid the contender to run away from punches, it has no advantage defensivelly, if you see marquez stomps in the step in and duck or weave inmediately after, so he´s not using it to trap Manny... at least the first two stomps, in the final one marquez look down to track Manny's feet... Point # 3, the entire match was so close, Marquez didn't knock Pacquiao down so the victory remained in Pacman's side. About the foot stepping issue, it's a common southpaw vs orthodox problem, similar to head butts. If Marquez did it less it would have appeared incidental, but it seemed it was his bread and butter in the fight. Cheating? Only Marquez knows, probably to slow Pacman down? Might be. It has been a long debate, but still, it is Boxing at it's best. Still better than Mayweather's

To be on the fair side, Pacquiao and Marquez fought a real tough and close fight. Compubox scores says Pacquiao thrown and landed more punches, though Marquez seemed to have thrown the harder ones. Streetwise, Marquez could be the clear winner, but this is sports and rules matter. Point #1, the challenger should always be the agressor, Marquez did the opposite and just waited for Pacquiao's mistakes prior to punching. Point #2, in close rounds, rounds are always awarded to the existing champion

Regardless of this tactic which I think is lame . Like many said it stopped PAC from attacking and putting is focus on staying balanced. Marquez knew only way to win is a knockdown. When a fight is close like that it's always going to goto the champion. To be considered the new champion you better out fight him by a long shot and knock him down. Maybe judges saw this happening and that's another reason they gave PAC the fight. They look at everything not just landed punches.

Stepping on someone's foot or head butts is not illegal if it is not done intentionally and it usually happens when a southpaw fights an orthodox. Accidental or not, sometimes it gives the other fighter an unfair advantage. Sometimes head butts change the outcome of the fight. I don't think this is the argument here.
The argument is: Did Marquez INTENTIONALLY step on Pac's foot to gain an advantage? I ask people to see the video and judge for themselves. Don't let others make that call for you.

it looked like Marquez knowingly stretches out his foot and catches Pacquiao's foot. With that being said; if it was accidental, Marquez should have pulled his foot away as soon as he felt like he was stepping on something but his foot actually was still on Pacquiao's foot until Manny had to pull away. In addition, I could understand if they were not intentional that Marquez would only be stepping on Pacquiao's toes, however, it seemed like every time he did, this looked intentional.

Out of the times stepping on him he never does much damage to manny except on one shown. Manny got outclassed beaten, and busted open. It wasn't because of Marquez stepping on his foot, it's because Marquez was doing a good job counter punching. How do you counter punch while stepping on someones foot? Not possible.
