Frank could use a clothes line tagged to a plank and still come up with sheer brilliance! I really don't care what gear he uses, what he had for breakfast, what shirts or shoes he wears, or whether he's got hair or not. He plays guitar and nails it! Good enough.
Frank Gambale, as a Carvin amps user, stated that he doesn't like tube amplifiers, in a Carvin official interview-advert, so I wonder if he used a solid state Carvin preamp and power amps in this performance.
What a fantastic interpretation Frank plays here. It's also one of his most soulful performances. Truly a master of his instrument and capable of capturing the essence of any song.
@dyakel101 The Westin Boniventure Hotel in LA is not a small place. It's massive hotel with a massive size lobby where we held the concerts. A number of movies have been shot there as well.
@carvinguitars Oh ok. I didn't know that. From the camera angle it seems like it would be a pretty small stage. I wasn't trying to hate on him either. Great tone and great playing. I've just been dealing with sound guys griping that my 40 watt 112 combo is too loud, so I'm jealous of a guy who can use two halfstacks! Haha
Frank Gambales feeling in this song is incredible..This is a great cover..but it comes from "The Man" and one of Hendrix's top 3 songs in my opinion......CARVIN GUITARS ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD, I picked one up and never looked back
gambale does his best work when he's forced to play within the melody. he's a brilliant, brilliant player but i think sometimes he needs the discipline of anchoring the melody because otherwise he only hears the melody in his head and if you lose his melodic thread it's hard to find him again. a little like coltrane at his most outside. thanks for posting this. another gambale music masters lecture.
Frank's rendiition is brilliant here. I get the sense that his improvisation here should be recorded and released. Bravo, Frank! . . . and Carvin, for posting this.
amazing.that is all.

How can this dude be playing on a tiny Hotel stage with TWO freakin' halfstacks?! I bet the sound guy hates him!
By the way, pretty sweet.

The mothership keeps landing for him, but other people get on and it takes off before he can catch it! After all, he must be an alien...

Great rendition from Frank! I have the same guitar. This is a guitar brand, more guitarists should be aware of. Brillient solo work here!

That hotel brings back memories of LA. This must be an extension of Namm, I think the main exhibit is or was in Orange County.
