You can really hear the Scott Walker production storm through in the final third. There's a decidedly old western feel to the backing chorus. I adore this song.
got a knack of story telling and talking through songs. amazing tune, which takes a dark twist as with numerous other talked through pulp songs - davids last summer, this is hardcore......
Can't believe there are no covers of this up on you tube...might have to think about doing one myself...only trouble is although I can play bass - pretty hopeless at guitar and have a voice like a fart in the fog
Yep, I love the tunes where he does that. Davids Last Summer is probably my favourite example but I love all the 'epics' on Pulp albums. Tunes like I Spy. Brilliant.
MASTERPIECE.

Sadly very few bands today could create a masterpiece like this. Pulp are unique, and Jarvis Cocker is the greatest storyteller of his generation.

is this from we love life? I love Pulp but I think that was their worst album. their 80s stuff was the best.

This is in perhaps Pulp's finest hour. Haunting, cool, low-key yet prominent.

'Deep Fried In Kelvin' is another great 'talkie' one. Very dark lyrics about tower-block existence.
'yeah you can live in
Kelvin ... on the promenade with the concrete
walkways ... where pidgeons go to die ... '

@69blair69 To me...it's about love and regret and getting all wistful for a time you find you've left behind but never meant to let go of...
Love this song.

Probably my favorite from We Love Life. One of the best examples of Jarvis Cocker's great speak/sing style. Really awesome storytelling in a song ...
