Haven't heard this version before. I prefer it - nice to hear John sing it solo, just with acoustic guitars, uncluttered by harmonies and overdubs.

I LOVE the way he goes up an octave at 1:41. He just sings a few notes in that higher register, but it's beautiful. I can't think of another song where he does this. He sounds like Roy Orbison.
