IMO Mark Rocco was even better than Dynamite Kid. So totally smooth- incredible brawler, phenomenal wrestler, and a hell of a lot more charisma than DK too.
love the people who think it's all real! Bloody good bout, this one, but it's rigged like the majority of British wrestling. It's fun though. Rocco probably bit his own lip to get blood - a common trick. He had to lose to set up the rematch. All this said, it is one of the better bouts out there, with some great moves, and I never doubt that there is plenty of real pain involved.
This is great. Thanks to the guy who posted it. Surely this isn't from one of the British saturday morning shows on ITV? That was pure pantomime but this was the most brutal pro-wrestling match i've ever seen. The way they sold these moves would have little kids in tears! Great stuff. You can completely see Dynamite was destined for greater things. The other guy looked good too. and if this had been in a venue about 15 miles south/west my nan might have been in the audience
@moley8791 I'm pretty sure it is from World of Sport. They did a lot of chain wrestling-style matches that were very technical and presented like pure sport at that time, it's just people mainly remember the Big Daddy-Giant Haystacks belly-bump competitions.
Thanks for posting this it brings back memories of world of sport dickie davis on Saturday mornings .. Both rocco and the dynamite kid look in excelhant shape..
Best match up of all time - Rollerball Rocco was the best! And the Dynamite Kid was awesome too!! The american wrestling these days is all about muscles and posing, not wrestling!!
Really different watching this match. The British wrestling was really sport minded back when. I really wish were could have professional wrestling in the U.S. like this today, but with the million mile an hour climate we live in today it would never work. At least we have YouTube and our memories though! =)
fuck me this is some hardcore wrestling. i remember from an early age watching the likes of ray steel and kendo nagasaki, giant haystacks backin the day on saturday mornings just before knight rider then the a-team. love those days.
i seemed to recall saturday wrestling to be pretty sedate with few high risk moves (mostly holds) and hardly any attacking on the canvass. this was a tough match. a different match and one of the best.
Other great wrestlers from England would include... Bert Royal, Vic Faulkner, Adrian Street, Bobby Barnes, Mike Marino, Clive Myers, Jim Breaks, Marty Jones, Steve Viedor Wayne Bridges, Les Kellett, Johnny Saint, Steve Grey, Johnny Kwango, Albert "Rocky" Wall, Steve Logan, Mick McManus and Jackie Pallo and of course "Judo" Al Hayes who went on to wrestle and present the early WWFstuff shown here in the UK.
Mark Rocco is the son of Jim Hussey who was also a wrestler in England, hard as nails just like his son... I believe Mark also had a great fight with Davey boy Green around the same time as this but cannot find it on youtube... well worth a watch if you can find it anywhere..
Mark Rocco was from Manchester I believe. Was once Lancashire, but now simply known as 'Greater Manchester' I think. An ex-pat in the Canary Islands, Rocco now rents and sells property in Tenerife if I'm not mistaken. I saw Rocco wrestle at Cambridge Corn Exchange in the 70s, one of the greatest nights in any boys life (thanks to Andy Craft for taking me!) As the commentator says, 'The Dynamite Kid' is from a district of Warrington called Goldbourne, Warrington being in Cheshire I think?
Mate, I'm from Warrington. Rocco was from Salford, and Kid was from Golbourne, you're right. Golbourne is in the borough of Wigan. When they were born, both towns were in Lancashire. Cheers for the most boring explanation I've ever had to give someone.
I genuinely didn't realise that your previous posting was actually a statement and not a question as I'd mistakenly thought. I was therefore just trying to shead some light based on what the commentator's saying in this and other UK Dynamite Kid matches (i.e "Goldbourne in Warrington"). I bow to your superiour knowledge however.
lol yeah, Golbourne is an odd little village, due to it's location. Houses on one street have a Warrington postcode, houses on the next have a Wigan one. There are a few like that round here, Haydock,Newton and Burtonwood, for example. I bow to you having seen Rocco wrestle in the flesh.
Great wrestlers. Would have loved to have seen either one of these guys work against Shawn Michaels with each guy in his prime. Would be a dream match! Especially Michaels vs, Dynamite.
Michaels vs Dynamite would've been aweswome... but personally I would've loved to have seen Dynamite vs Ricky Steamboat. That match would be untouchable. Of course Rocco vs Steamboat would've been amazing too.
@EvilLucas good lord, just thinking of those match-ups made me mark out like f@ck. haha
I would have loved to see dynamite vs michaels or vs steamboat, but anyone agree that a battle between Dynamite and Eddy Guerrero would have been great?
Great British wrestlers? Johnny Saint, Billy Robinson, Robbie Brookside, Steven (William) Regal, Johnny Smith, Dave Taylor, Doug Williams, Nigel McGuinness...the list goes on. England's a hotbed for wrestling. Always has been. They helped create the realistic technical style everybody does today. Although they do it LOADS better! Catch wrestling rules.

Now that's what I call wrestling! The Kid was pretty messed up outside the ring, but inside it, he was truly DYNAMITE! Thanks for posting such a great match!
Try Billy Robinson, also seen as one of the greatest wrestlers, also from Britain. He was in AWA and also had great matches in Japan, people were scared of wrestling him because they thought he might show them up. Look him up, from Wigan also.
I didn't even notice, but yeah, that ring is a little small. Having worked in a ring even smaller than that, and very big rings, I'd rather take the smaller ring. I think it forces you to be a little quicker, since the opponent comes back earlier after being whipped into the ropes. A very big ring, and your more prone to telegraphing moves.
Yes, Tiger Mask learned some of his skills in the UK, under the name of Sammy Lee, when he returned to Japan to become Tiger Mask he told the promoters of the fantastic wrestlers he had met in the UK, Dynamite Kid and Rocco (as the masked "Black Tiger") became two of his biggest opponents. Rocco (as Black Tiger) also won the WWF Jumior Heavyweight title.
Rocco kept getting banned from TV in Britain for violence(genuine not kayfabe)- he was a total psycho=HARDCORE before the term was even invented. As for Tom, what a wrestler, but you can already see the roid effect.
The high angle backdrop at 11:10 is beautiful. Rocco landed hard.
Thats like a 4 1/2 star match, hurt only by these stupid European rules. And the Kid should have given him the snap vertical suplex. WTF is the date on this?
Today was the first time I had actually paid attention to this style of wrestling. Impressive! I love old school American wrestling but now I have a respect for this style.
Hehe... I remember watching this match, not live, but the first time it was shown on the TV (World of Sport - Saturday afternnons)... was the first time I'd seen the Dynamite Kid too :)
