do people teach medieval sword training as commonly as a karatie studios? or do you have to go to a specialized place like this? i wanna learn just for hobbys sake :)
I get what you're saying Col, but by having the sword flat towards opponant gives the posta a passive defense that edge forward doesnt have. Shots coming up tend to skip a bunch and flat forward the guard catches them where edge forward allows them to skip up into you. OUCH! :) Rotating of the egde isnt as bad as many people think in fact many living blade traditions have alot more rotating of the edge, expecially on the cut.
Im not saying Im right, just why we do what we do :)
Some things I will point out: Full Iron Gate shown has the sword's flat side facing the opponent. Our school of thought where I learned taught to have the sword's blade facing the opponent so as the transition of the swing won't have the hands rotating. You can see this in the picture example Fiore left us. Blocking the sword when angled down was taught as weak to my understanding. But you didn't record my favorite: Longa!

Very good show. I've been looking for drills to practice Fiore's style with.
