Lol that guy who said that they stay for the people is totally wrong, look at World of Warcraft HORRIABLE people in it and 10 million subscribers. Everquest on the other hand has great people and only about 400,000 subscribers.
people get addicted to these virtual worlds because its easy and straight-forward. it doesnt matter if ur fat thin, spotty , gay , ill, disabled, injured, lazy... u can still achieve things. this is why in some (not so extreme) cases people spend more of there lives in the virtual world than in the real world meaning they wither and become isolated from normal human behaviour and leads them to more and more prefer thier virtual life.
To the contrary -- I've actually met three people whom I first met in Second Life. If anything, I've become more social, and more open to creating things, learning new skills, and sharing the things I've made with others. I can't speak for any other virtual worlds that aren't as heavy on individual content creation, however.
However, since you imply that fat, thin, injured, or gay people can't achieve things outside of virtual worlds, I suppose responding to this is just feeding the trolls.
@ffxiholyxx I can can level a WoW character in a week. There are MMO's where I have had to actually PLAY the game, and spend time in it, and those are the ones I have enjoyed the most. You must be a WoWTard.

I don't think they wither. Some of these WOW types have expanded like a helium baloon with an IV dripfeed of coke and pizza.

Very interesting. I saw the full program when it aired in CNNi. It's really a shame programs like this one are not shown by mainstream US media.
