This is an amazing story and a great read. It is incredibly well researched, thorough and on point. Blehm is an expert story teller. He draws you in and then smacks you right in the mouth. Read this book.

I'm very glad this story finally got out. It tells the highs and lows of our early years in Afghanistan. The book couldn't have been better. Thank you, Eric, for honoring our men. These men could have turned the war around over there in the years that followed as we messed things up repeatedly. Instead, the senior officers who were promoted instead of going to jail went on to cause defeat after defeat. Sad. We almost did it right.

I have made it to page 19. The leader of oda574 would have already told me to shut the bleep up. I would of raged and also I am laughing my ass off that MURPHY HAS SHOWN HIS HEAD THIS EARLY. by the way dan saying "we are so fucked" is a comment I made to greg roberts on dec 8th 1994. how ironic. I posted a operation where 236 grunts were wiped out in 20 minutes. A member of oda 574 was there that day and know this he refused medavac. I was weak and didnt have the mentality to stay behind

This book takes you there in such a visceral way it gives me goosebumps! History has never felt so compelling; you GO THERE, man, and get something no other author can give: first person, on the ground, with these extraordinary men! I felt this story unfold with humor, horror, courage and a profound heroism most rarely have the opportunity to experience first hand. A MUST READ. Well done, Eric, I couldn't put it down.
