@MizTypical its out now, just search "Dearest black keys" or look up the new album "rave on" which has lou reed, julian casablancas, modest mouse, ceelo green and others doing buddy holly songs
is there a difference between "Umm Oh Yeah (Dearest)" and "Dearest"? At one source I saw that Umm Oh Yeah was actually the first recording. Or are the two titles interchangeable? Thanks for posting this, great song!
Alan, thank you for posting this version and for all the info, Do you know if this version with the backround dubbung by the Fireballs is available on a cd? Thanks again and I hope all is well with you. Howie P. S. How is Buddy's cover of "Gone"?
@rogerthornehill - It is available on various Buddy Holly CDs and sets. It was originally released on the LP Showcase. 'Gone' is also on the same LP. The LP has been coupled with the LP Reminiscing and released as a CD by BGO Records - BGOCD511.
@zacharytmilner - Ha ha no I haven't, it is the correct spelling where I come from and it is yours that is wrong. However I am sure that most of us understand that American English varies considerably to that of England's version, but does it matter anyway.
@AliceLlama - It was actually recorded by Buddy between 1st January 1959 and 20th January 1959, he actually made a few versions. This one wasoverdubbed by the Fireballs circa 1962/1963 and released on the Coral Showcase LP in 1964 .
@YESitschloe Do you mean that begining reminds you of Words of Love written and originally recorded by Buddy Holly and then copied by the Beatles, So who is the minus three really for Buddy or the Beatles who admit that they were very big fans of Buddy Holly? :)
@alancastrian you are right, that's pretty much what that inept music 'fan' meant... the early beatles stuff is a straight jocking of Buddy's style, and until they were introduced to acid by peter fonda, they continued to use his style. the beatles were good, but wow.. talk about overrated. Buddy? HIGHLY underrated. Everyone knows george martin was the beatles' backbone anyway!
@YESitschloe Hahahahahahahahaha!! That's a Buddy Holly song. I give you credit for listening to the Beatles though. It's OK if you didn't know that. The Beatles loved Buddy Holly.
@LINK666F Oh how sorry I feel for you, A normal person would give constructive criticism. I appreciate that we all loke different things including styles of music, but to act the way you are is so childish. If you want I can recommend a good doctor. :) :) :)
This sounds like one of the post-death overdub hack jobs the Fireballs did on his songs; beautiful simplicity smothered in schlocky strings and echoes. Too bad.
I'm organizing my music collection on my computer, but I am unable to find out what year this song came out. I'm guessing it was a single, because I don't remember it on any of his albums.

@ringu Composed c.1956 by jazzguitar genius Machouston[Mickey] Baker when skint & seeing where music was heading, as was 'Love Is Strange', also recorded by Buddy in late 50's. MB was with Sylvia as Micky & Sylvia..DO hear their fantastic recording of 'L.I.S.' with SUPERB guitar accs. by [I believe!!] Sylvia rather than Micky. MB is much credited with being a 'midwife' to R&R bringing it out from black R&B, as was Bo Did & Little Richard Penniman

I saw Buddy perform at the Trocadero in the Elephant & Castle , London when I was just 13. I still find it hard to hold back the tears as a grown man when I hear this. Buddy has always been in my thoughts if not daily but weekly ever since. God bless him !

One of my favorite songs ever. Buddy Holly is the only musician who can bring me back to a time when I wasn't even born. That's power.

What the hell, why is this song so good, and why did it take me so long to hear it?

Depending on the record/cd that it is on it can be called, Umm Oh Yeah, Dearest or Umm oh Yeah (Dearest), so it can be a bit confusing.
