  • I usually don't like to mention movies on songs, but this is Juno, after all

  • when did he die?

  • @DrUmSrOxSoX - 3rd February 1959 age 22

  • @alancastrian

    too young

  • 10 people are forever alone

  • * * * * *

  • Juno brought me here. Lol.

  • never heard this version

  • Thank you for uploading this, alancastrian. The magic does not die, even after more than half a century.

  • he looks like Kassam G

  • 10 people don`t understand music this is good Buddy we still miss you.

  • @eddyz3 we'll always miss you people just need to get the wax out of the ears and hear that this music is the timeless so they should grow up and get a life like it or not im just being honest and if they want to hate a person for being honest oh well i rather be honest than lie

  • best cover by a mile ,such a shame he has gone but never forgotten, wish i was a teenager when he was about im 28 and love this music seems like such a perfect era to live in

  • @WestVettraino Dan Auerbach and Pat Carney certainly do Buddy Holly justice with their cover of "Dearest".

  • This is my favourite over-dubbed version of one of Buddy Holly's greatest love songs. Its just so simple and amazing.

  • @WestVettraino - Yes it's one of the tracks by various artists on the 'Rave On' cd, a Tribute to Buddy Holly released this year.

  • He is a GOD!!

  • My Grandma brought me here.

  • doesnt this want to bring u back to the golden times of summer??? :') brings tears to my eyes

  • great song bang on button lovely tune

  • cannot wait to hear the black keys version

  • @AHarmlessBlackMan i luv the black keys!!!! when does it come out?

  • @MizTypical its out now, just search "Dearest black keys" or look up the new album "rave on" which has lou reed, julian casablancas, modest mouse, ceelo green and others doing buddy holly songs

  • @MizTypical You can go to the black keys site, it's up to listen on there

  • is there a difference between "Umm Oh Yeah (Dearest)" and "Dearest"? At one source I saw that Umm Oh Yeah was actually the first recording. Or are the two titles interchangeable? Thanks for posting this, great song!

  • @DarkMage530 - It is the same song but there are a few different versions that have been dubbed with different backing tracks at a later stage.

  • Alan, thank you for posting this version and for all the info, Do you know if this version with the backround dubbung by the Fireballs is available on a cd? Thanks again and I hope all is well with you. Howie P. S. How is Buddy's cover of "Gone"?

  • @rogerthornehill - It is available on various Buddy Holly CDs and sets. It was originally released on the LP Showcase. 'Gone' is also on the same LP. The LP has been coupled with the LP Reminiscing and released as a CD by BGO Records - BGOCD511.

  • Buddy Holly is the original hipster. And amazing sonngggg ~

  • It doesn't matter, I just think it looks funny with a U in it lol

  • You spelled favorite wrong...

  • @zacharytmilner - Ha ha no I haven't, it is the correct spelling where I come from and it is yours that is wrong. However I am sure that most of us understand that American English varies considerably to that of England's version, but does it matter anyway.

  • @zacharytmilner Haha. Silly.

  • we are from the same town!

  • Buudy Holly, your music is eternal bliss !

  • Awesome song!.....Jackie Edwards did a Reggae remix duet of this song

  • This song is amazing.

  • Ummmm yea! :D Love this song =]

  • Like if Juno brought you here :)

  • Anybody know what year this song is from?

  • @AliceLlama - It was actually recorded by Buddy between 1st January 1959 and 20th January 1959, he actually made a few versions. This one wasoverdubbed by the Fireballs circa 1962/1963 and released on the Coral Showcase LP in 1964 .

  • @alancastrian Omg. How do you know that? Lolz. I love Buddy Holly. My fav song by him is Raining In My Heart <3

  • @XkittyXkattX410 - I have quite a comprehensive book and CD set with all the recording information in.

  • @alancastrian Ohhh. Very nice (:

  • @AliceLlama 1969 i believe

  • ...The tune at the beginning reminded me of the beatles: words of love <3

  • @YESitschloe Do you mean that begining reminds you of Words of Love written and originally recorded by Buddy Holly and then copied by the Beatles, So who is the minus three really for Buddy or the Beatles who admit that they were very big fans of Buddy Holly? :)

  • @alancastrian you are right, that's pretty much what that inept music 'fan' meant... the early beatles stuff is a straight jocking of Buddy's style, and until they were introduced to acid by peter fonda, they continued to use his style. the beatles were good, but wow.. talk about overrated. Buddy? HIGHLY underrated. Everyone knows george martin was the beatles' backbone anyway!

  • @YESitschloe Hahahahahahahahaha!! That's a Buddy Holly song. I give you credit for listening to the Beatles though. It's OK if you didn't know that. The Beatles loved Buddy Holly.

  • Holly is King....

  • JUSTIN BIEBER CREATE 10 ACOUNTS JUST TO DISLIKE THIS SONG

  • @LINK666F Oh how sorry I feel for you, A normal person would give constructive criticism. I appreciate that we all loke different things including styles of music, but to act the way you are is so childish. If you want I can recommend a good doctor. :) :) :)

  • @LINK666F Oh shut up you sound like a knob

  • IMO one of Buddy Holly's best songs but this version is awful.

  • @SweNyabinghi - Each to his own

  • THanks for sending this to ne Nadine...So pretty

  • @patmandy2009 your very welcome, we were so lucky--the everly brothers and BuddY

  • The dislike people have no class or style,go back to you're boy bands and Britney

  • @ndhudecz - HaHa I agree each to his own though

  • @alancastrian I'm glad my own is Holly....

  • @ndhudecz that's why there's 35x more likes than dislikes, I know it's cliche by now, but they must have hit thumbs down by accident.

  • @drewsky684 that has to be it.

  • Great artist. I'll bet that he'd have remained popular throughout the rock era.

  • This was his last song recorded before he died :(

  • Marshall Crenshaw. Hmm oh yea,

a guy that started out as a Buddy impresionist but now thinks he is bigger than the man himself. ]

  • been lovong holly since i could remeber im only 15 :)

  • @cripplemind661 Wow, really? That's very impressive. /sarcasm

  • @GoldenGhettoFilms bahaha :P

  • Killakerr - has paid me a tribute for this video, by downloading it and then uploading it as his own.

  • just love that Buddy Holly.

  • Sorry...that's the"Juno" soundtrack. If you like this song, try listening to "Chain Gang of Love" by The Raveonettes, they're very similar

  • It's on the soundtrack of the movie"Jumo"

  • can you imagine what he would be producing today

  • sheer genius. no one has ever come close to him. rip

  • Love This Song (:

  • if my psycho sang this to me, i would love him more than i already do...and i dont think its posible for someone to love someone so much

  • The great king of rock and roll

  • I love Buddy Holly.

I love this song with all of my heart. (I love you... I love you...)

  • Love this song!!

I wish someone will sing this for me .. ♥

  • @Thingalina I will!!

  • i have the biiiiiiiggest crush on the guy who plays buddy holly in la bamba. anyone know who that actor was?? :)

  • @michellerocksall Marshall Crenshaw played Buddy Holly in La Bamba

  • @michellerocksall marshall crenshaw

  • @michellerocksall Marshall Crenshaw

  • This sounds like one of the post-death overdub hack jobs the Fireballs did on his songs; beautiful simplicity smothered in schlocky strings and echoes. Too bad.

  • @steveconn yeah it is,they used the same arrangement for his version of "love is strange" btw juno sucks

  • classic <3

  • i heard this on juno when i watched it, and i iremembered how this used to be my favourite song when i was a baby/toddler :D i lvoe buddy holyy

  • Esse e o grande rei do do rock roll

  • Buddy said "mmm....yeeaahhh" way before Bill Lumburgh!

By the way, why tune down to E-flat and capo on the 4th fret, rather than just capoing to the 3rd? Just curious.

  • @musicaldolphin1 That's right but don't get your self korn- holed .. Dude !

  • @musicaldolphin1 mmm... yeah. Good one.

  • buddy had good tastes: he too liked Mickey and Sylvia: awesome songs....

    and a nice rendition

  • I'm organizing my music collection on my computer, but I am unable to find out what year this song came out. I'm guessing it was a single, because I don't remember it on any of his albums.

Anyone mind helping me learning a little more about this song? Like the year it came out and on what?

  • It was actually recorded by Buddy between 1st January 1958 and 20th January 1958, he actually made a few versions. This one was released on the Coral Showcase LP in 1964 and was ovedubbed by the Fireballs.

  • @alancastrian Thank you. Good information. I knew this title but I never heard it before hearing it here on YT.

  • @ringu Thanks, glad to have been able to help you.

  • @ringu Composed c.1956 by jazzguitar genius Machouston[Mickey] Baker when skint & seeing where music was heading, as was 'Love Is Strange', also recorded by Buddy in late 50's. MB was with Sylvia as Micky & Sylvia..DO hear their fantastic recording of 'L.I.S.' with SUPERB guitar accs. by [I believe!!] Sylvia rather than Micky. MB is much credited with being a 'midwife' to R&R bringing it out from black R&B, as was Bo Did & Little Richard Penniman

*Buddy's* GENIUS did tune FULL justice as ever!

  • @biggerthanacadillac Got to look up Mickey Baker. Never knew any of this. Thank you.

  • @alancastrian : presumably you actually mean Jan 1959 (and not 1958!) as this came from the so-called "apartment tapes"?

  • @optandus - Oops yes sorry a typing error, Thanks.

  • @fizzypopism Try " Buddy Holly Online" for listings, discography, dates, and more.

  • @fizzypopism This was a UK Coral 'B' side released Dec 13 1963.

     Q 72469 - What To Do/Dearest (12/13/63)

  • this songs on me grandads rock n roll legends box set cd thing

  • @alancastrian this song is one of my favorite's from him and lets not listen this guy or girl, there obviously intrested in crap like the jonas faggots

  • Like I have said that we are all entitled to our personal opinions and it is understood that they vary. This isn't a bad thing and we should respect those of others. I also very much like country music, Buddy's roots are in country music.

Just because someone doesn't like the music that I like doesn't mean that they are wrong because thay have voiced that opinion. Lets all be friends together :)

  • We are all entitled to our own opinions and so I respect yours, but cannot agree with you. As I have said previously this song is amongst my favourites.

  • @alancastrian okay yeah thanks for understanding. its just that im more into pop n country music.

  • why are you listening to it then???

  • @JonasBros4ever321

     you be trollin

  • hi ...this is certainly the best vertion of this track ....an if you cant find it any ware do what i did ...get real player on you computer an down load it then you can save it to file and put it on disc .....the quality is verry good ..... hope this helps ...

  • Thrre are many Buddy Holly CDs including sets still available with this track on. I have sent the relevant information to 'toby', There is software available that allows you to download YouTube videos and then extract the music from it. Thanks also for your information 'coolguy'

  • can't find this version anywhere.

the juno version is different - the beat is played straight and theres no high pitched muted guitar.

anyone know where i could find this one?x

  • You can always go onto websites like Zamzar, and have the YouTube video converted into an MP3.

  • I know it sucks that people mostly know this song cus of Juno, like i hadnt heard this one by Buddy until then, but its better than nothin right?

Imagine how much more he would have changed music if he would have stayed alive?

  • I hate to admit it, but I hadn't heard of Juno until I read about it in these comments. To quote you "Imagine how much more he would have changed music if he would have stayed alive? " He has already made a big influence to music, so yes I agree I am sure he would have carried on being an influence in the music scene. - Thanks for your very welcome comments.

  • right? like ive heard a great deal of his songs from Everyday to Oh Boy in commercials and movies and even Peggy Sue(which is one of my favorites), so you know people out there love his music, and if he had continued to make music it would have been way crazier!! haha

its always better to be nice than to be a jerk : )

  • its always better to be nice than to be a jerk : ) - Agreed :)

  • @changobilly22 I don't think thewre is anything bad about people only hearing of this song because of Juno. if people now listen to Buddy Holly because of it or got them into him then that is a great thing. Because young folks maybe would have spent their life never having heard all his songs. So thats how it should be looked upon.

  • no yea, thats exactly what i ment, i guess i just worded it wrong

but yea, its also impossible for everyone to hear ALL of his stuff too, like i havent, but thats what i ment, its better heard of him than nothing

  • JUUUUUNNNNOOOOO

  • Sheesh, I wish kids had heard of this song BEFORE Juno came out.

I've loved this song for ages, and I'm young.

I guess I was just raised on the good stuff. :)

  • Hi 'Carrie' I don't know what is scary about you, but I am glad to say that you do at least appreciate good music. :)

  • Thank you. :D

I prefer this stuff, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens-esque stuff over all of the junk out there nowadays.

  • i prefer this version best.

  • along with Elvis, Fats Domino, Country Chuck Berry and late Johnny Cash (RIP) Buddy still rocks. I was born in 1977 but I still enjoy their songs!!!

  • Not 100% but think it was a group called The Fireballs who overdubbed on this track as they did with many of the Garage Tapes.

  • Yes it is the Fireballs on this version, George Tomsco on guitar, Stan Lark bass, Keith McCormack rhythm guitar and either Doug Roberts or Eric Budd on drums, produced by Norman Petty.

  • unbelievable talent...

  • such an amazing song

    was good in Juno

  • Can't get enough of Holly's songs....

  • Beautiful vocals by Holly. Love the lead guitar here too.

  • Yes, another gem from Buddy's "apartment tapes", where the full range of his very distinctive voice is well highlighted in his rendition of a song that was originally recorded by Mickey and Sylvia (who also made the original hit with "Love is Strange" - another song that clearly haunted Buddy and his musical style during the last two years of his tragically short life). Wonderful stuff, all of it!

  • @optandus Can't resist an Amen to this, having JUST 'told' someone the same story B4 reading yours!

THINK:~ UNIQUE, unmistakeable voices over the years; Many, many, many, like Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holliday, John Lennon..well, almost, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis of course, but to ME the one voice that has NEVER been in ANY doubt is the TOWERING GENIUS Buddy Holly. (& I don't care HOW many of y'all start foul~mouthing me for not naming YOUR particular hero LOL!)

    The VOICE is all!!x

  • @biggerthanacadillac : I couldn't agree more!! (Thanks for your kind words by the way!

  • Lovely song.

  • Love this song.

  • where can i find this version with the drums like this i like it much better

  • you should be able to find this version on any album that does not have the Picks backing the songs.

This song was one of the "apartment tapes" and was over dubbed first in NY '59 and later by Norman Petty in '63 or '64.

the version here is the Norman Petty overdubbed version and is by far the more popular of the two.

  • buddy holly is phenomenal.

  • this is sensational

  • fantastic song. from the one and only buddy

  • JUNO!!!

    i love tht movie

im watching it rite now :)

  • @bamfan151 Juno has introduced another generation to Buddy Holly - how cool is that.

  • This version of the song is superb. He added in his songs a feeling of a pure, innocent and unselfish kind of love. What a loss to music!

  • Exelente cancion

:) me gusta la musica clasica saludos 1

  • I saw Buddy perform at the Trocadero in the Elephant & Castle , London when I was just 13. I still find it hard to hold back the tears as a grown man when I hear this. Buddy has always been in my thoughts if not daily but weekly ever since. God bless him !

  • My favourite song ever no question

  • this version is ok but i like the raw version from juno better. in my opinion there was no point in adding anything else. will someone please upload the raw version with just buddy and his guitar.

  • heard it on the Juno soundtrack and couldn't get it out of my head. I love it!

  • One of my favorite songs ever. Buddy Holly is the only musician who can bring me back to a time when I wasn't even born. That's power.

  • What the hell, why is this song so good, and why did it take me so long to hear it?

  • i like the background guitar, like singin birds

  • I want to dance to this song at my wedding :-)

  • I can't think of a better song for the occasion, is it iminent, if so my congratulations and best wishes.

  • i like this better than the version from the Juno soundtrack

  • Decades ahead of his time.

  • im kind of in love with buddy holly. i would so go back in time and marry him. he's amazing. period.

  • Thanks for the music. I agree with Ladyvamp.

  • great

  • we did a contemerary dance to this at ballet camp and right then i knew that i loved this song. it took me untill a few days ago to firgure out what it was called. Classic me. Great music, no brain.

  • Depending on the record/cd that it is on it can be called, Umm Oh Yeah, Dearest or Umm oh Yeah (Dearest), so it can be a bit confusing.

  • i love him.
