@Shary999 - Not as long as there are irresponsible pet owners around. I have strays in my backyard year round. Found a few of them good homes, but the others are feral. They won't make good indoor pets. Sad, because these poor cats don't live very long when they're exposed to the elements. If only people would keep their pets indoors and have them neutered or spayed; then there wouldn't be so many ferals and strays. The robot cat may be just the thing for such people.

In reality, to me it seems that we've taken a step back in robots lately. We used to have ones with pretty smart AIs that would walk around and react to the world but they didn't look realistic at all.. Now we have really realistic animals who just sit around and make noises and react when you like pet them.
