What do you think is a reasonable salary for the Superintendent of Elk Grove Schools? Have you looked at the salaries of the superintendents of other school districts?
Bionic PJ: State workers starting as a low Gen Services Specialist start at a higher salary than a teacher does. They also work A LOT less with less stress. Their retirement accrues at a faster rate than teachers. Teachers have to pay more into their retirement than do state workers. You're comparing apples to oranges below.
Get your workers to work for the least amount of money and still do their job = a managers job. Look up for answers not down at the classrooms.

I just read on another website that Dr. Ladd's contract not only gives him $243,000+ Dollars a year, but also gives him and his wife FREE MEDICAL CARE for LIFE!! He is doing something to the teachers that he would NEVER let happen to himself. Am I the only one who is starting to smell something that stinks? What the hell is the EGUSD thinking? I agree, time to evaluate and vote them out.
I want you all to stop bashing Dr Lad. He's doing his job. He has a set amount of money and bills to pay. He can't tell PG&E that he'll cut their bills by 15%; they would cut off his gas and electric. He can't tell SMUD that he willl only pay them 80% of what they ask for; they would cut off the power. BUT he can tell the teachers he will cut their pay 10% and cut off their medical! The teachers won't do anything about it. They'll still show up early and leave late, like always. RIGHT????

If you don't act now you will save you class the next two years. If you do act now, you will save every class for the next 20 years. How many students do you want to save by saving our profession? These two years or the next 20? If you don't, the cuts will continue until you do.
You need to know: From what I have now read, Dr Lad and his wife have lifetime medical coverage! Normally, they (Supers) have a 3 year contract. So, if he is released by the board, he would have two more years of full pay! (a ~$500,000 severance package). Normally, a lawyer negotiates their contract every year to make sure it has two years left. Is this the case with Dr. Lad? His contract should be a public file in the district office...Just ask for it.
The definition of a good boss is one that gives you the tools to do your job effectively. The definition of a bad boss is one that passes their problems on to you to solve. The definition of a terrible boss is one that allows their subordinates to suffer the consequences of the boss' ineffectiveness.
I guess you made my point for me, but I don't care who the maker of this video is associated with rather that it has a hidden agenda and is purposely misleading. I also think it is telling that you assume I am a school board member or otherwise. Worrying about how much someone else makes is a useless endeavor. A veteran teacher makes more, has a better pension, better medical care and works far less days and hours a year than me. But I also understand that salaries are market driven
and we all make personal decisions in life. I respect their jobs and hope they respect mine. The reason Superintendents make so much is largely due to slanderous and personal public attacks like this. The goal here is not to elect a new school board but to bully the existing one until you get your way. I personally hope they do what's right for the long term viability of the district.

Let me address your claim that the name of this group is misleading. I too am part of this group. I am not a member of the EGEA and I am not a teacher. I am, however a tax payer, I am a parent and I have been wondering what the School Board has done with their common sense. It is not a misleading name. This video got over 500 views...do you need more proof?
This political video is purposely misleading and full of deceit including the name of the publisher. The "raise" being referred to is a step increase which thousands of teachers received this year costing the district multi millions. This misguided message is clear "honor my contract but not someone else's.". Check the facts for yourself.
@nospigttam: I have been to many board meetings. I watch the board members and they never look like they are listening to anyone other than each other.
If you are a parent in Elk Grove and don't like what you just saw, go to a board meeting or email/write the board members. They listen to parents most of all!

I want you all to stop bashing Dr Lad. He's doing his job. He has a set amount of money and bills to pay. He can't tell PG&E that he'll cut their bills by 15%; they would cut off his gas and electric. He can't tell SMUD that he willl only pay them 80% of what they ask for; they would cut off the power. #1- Your pay will decrease by at least 12% a year, permanently!
#2- Most will not be able to afford medical after a couple years thus dropping their medical.

Does Dr. Ladd make more than every Governor in the United States? YES
Is that an obscene amount of money to pay a Superintendent of a School District? YES
Does it look bad for Dr. Ladd and upper management to accept raises of $10,000 per year when laying off teachers? YES
Do decisions to approve $10,000 raises make the EGUSD School Board look irresponsible? YES
