90% are nothing more then venom rip-offs,...probably the reason, why 90% of these bands dont exist anymore and/or made only 1 -2 albums: venom kicked there ass and still does,...
Merciless's The Awakening was actually released in 1989. There are some examples of lps from that year. It just wasnt widely avalible until 1990. So in reality, it's an '89 release.
Ever wanted to see a live action version of the thrash metal bands a-z concept that doesn't suck and includes great obscure acts such as Mezzrow, Intruder, Gothic Slam, and Watchtower? LOOK NO FURTHER! I have finally after two months completed a live action thrash metal a-z compilation series five videos long! Please drop by and check it out, you will not be disapointed!
Death/Thrash Metal Iron Maiden, Helloween, Sepultura, Megadeth, Testament, Danzig, Kreator, Dark Angel, Nuclear Assault, Guns N' Roses Death Angel, Anthrax, Slayer, Motley Crue, Artillery, Sucidal Tendencies, L.A. Guns, Xentrix, Atrophy, Sodom, Exodus, Celtic Frost, Cannibal Corse, Black Sabbath, Destruction,Annihilator, M.O.D., Alice Cooper, AC/DC ,Pantera, Death , Nirvana , Metallica, System Of A Down, Sacred Reign, The Offspring, Mercyful Fate,Scorpions,Soufly,Korn,Depeche Mode..............
the difference between thrash and death is alot more than lyrics. the guitars are heavier and darker, not necessarily fast like thrash has to be. The drums are more doublebass (usually), blast beats ofcourse, vocals are rougher, more gutteral or totally gutteral whereas thrash is harsh but sounds like the singer is running out of air (cuz he usually is). Subject matter always helps. Death metal ofcourse is usually about death in some form.
@autopsy87 not all death metal has blast beats in it. i haven't heard really any bands in the 80's that blasted besides morbid angel and, well, morbid angel. and obituary doesn't blast at all i don't think, nor have i really heard death blast, except in like one song. i'm talking about blasts so much because i hate to say it, that's a very big defining difference between thrash and death.
Iron Maiden, Helloween, Sepultura, Megadeth, Testament, Danzig, Kreator, Dark Angel, Nuclear Assault, Guns N' Roses Death Angel, Anthrax, Slayer, Motley Crue, Artillery, Sucidal Tendencies, L.A. Guns, Xentrix, Atrophy, Sodom, Exodus, Celtic Frost, Cannibal Corse, Black Sabbath, Destruction,Annihilator, M.O.D., Alice Cooper, AC/DC ,Pantera, Death , Nirvana
Thanks for sharing this, I've missed a lot of these bands. Too many of these bands get unnoticed for various reasons. And you're right, Kreator isn't death/thrash; Mille Petrozza vocals often give that impression though. Nonetheless, Kreator's a great band and definitely one of the most aggressive thrash bands.
And I'm especially pleased that you list Death Strike, far too many people are unaware of Paul Speckmann's HUGE influence on the underground.
I'd actually consider "Under the Guillotine" to be a death/thrash song, but... about it. They leaned closer to black metal than death metal on those, but thrash overall.
I want to download magnus' Scarlet Slaughterer but I can't find it anywhere so can someone be so kind and sent me a link by PM? I have searched from local musicshops but no result so please help me :(
Hey if you like a bit of thrash/death check out underground Scottish metal band INSANITA loads of original songs up and a few covers too! Check out songs Abaddon, Heathen and The Butcher and the Clown in particular if you like this, your comments would be appreciated! Many thanks :)
i'm just missing some classic stuff like Morbid Saint, Dead Head, Recipients of Death, Exoto, Invocator, Sadus, Mutilator, Overthrow, Cabal, Devastation (illinois) etc...

Where is Kreator in this... I mean... Under the Guillotine? Or Ripping Corpse? Pleasure to Kill?

@Titant2 I don't consider Kreator a deathrash band although they used to play truly violent thrash on their early albums like PTK and EP
