I had this game for the C64 ... could never beat it because of the bugs, but the music is the one thing I thought was excellent about this game, as well.
God your good...i used to be able to get to the glitchy level as a kid then I gave up as I couldnt see where the fuck to go. Awesome port, best version of this game by far!
I miss those yers too. I don't know why. Seeing these videos makes me feel good. I got me an emulator and played some games. Why do I have to be nostalgic. For One thing I didn't see much errors in the game. Never could play this game so good. I am thinking even of geting this old joystick for PC Competition pro to bring up memories. Thanks to all who keep this memories alive... Greetings from Slovenia.
@Simon0 HA HA! i just said the same thingh on another robocop vid! i really thought i was tho only one who remembered the tune was on a washing machine ad! top bloke lol
@vprmn : No; as the text at the beginning of the vid states, ALL of the store bought copies of the game contained that buggy level. I can attest to that - I have a store bought copy - same crappy graphics happens very time.
God i miss those good old days. C64's and Spectrums, all the crazy games. I still remember going into the games shops and being able to buy a new game for £1.99.
Great music and graphics. Notice they had to use software rendering for the shots - no more resources in VIC II (or progs out of them...). As for that messed up graphics - download the hacked update... Audio visually far ahead of Spectrum version. As for the gameplay, I think Speccy Robocop is more addictive - better pacing, more shots, more kills simply more fun...
I loved the menu music so much. I remember trying over and over again to beat the stupid warehouse level. Obviously nobody did any testing back in those days.
Holy crap that brings back memories. But only of the first level. Never knew there were more levels... I thought it was such a bad game I didn't care to play it.
I never knew about the glitch, so I always ran out of time on that stage, so now I know! I used the 'DISAPPOINTED' cheat to get to the last few sections when I couldn't beat that level and was able to finish the rest of the game. I must say, however, that it possibly had the worst ending of any game I've finished.
Despite the great music, and the opportunity to mow down hundreds of men wearing chinos... Terrible game :/. Nice graphics... Even if it looks more like 80s Miami than Detroit.
Thinking about it, this game must have been where I got the idea to see RoboCop when I was 9 years old. A lot of C64 games based on mega violent films had the advertisement "See The Movie On VHS Today!". I remember conning my Mom to rent it for me and my little freinds, that afternoon was quite a memorable one after we saw ED-209 chop a man up with a machine gun.
This game had some kick ass music- but you had to sacrifice the sound fx to hear it. What other game made you do that! Well, besides other games by Ocean... This game i found to be near impossible, but kept playing to hear the tunes.
I wish that this theme whas played at the robocop movies from 1 - 3 when robocop is outside and walks. And the robocop theme at the movie when it's action like it now.
I owned the CPC version of this game. I'm mortified to learn you can complete the game in 9 minutes...it took twice as long just to LOAD the darn thing!
Actually the C64 had just 3 channels. A 4th channel could be faked by writing 4bits values to the volume control register at high rates (faking a sample channel). The downside is that it takes almost all the CPU time, and therefore isn't used for anything else than static screens.
Same here. BTW, what happened to the gun SFX and other in-game SFX? Again great music, it's just that the C64 didn't have enough sound channels for SFX for this game, or SFX would have slowed the game down a bit.
C64 only had 3 channels (I think), so it wouldn't have been possible to have sound fx without the music cutting out, but you did have the choice of music or fx at the beginning of the game but I think it's safe to say the music wins! :)
lol when the guys die...they blow up...what kind of gun Robocop equip with, good God man where you shoot someone and they blow up into nothing..on the game it just looks like a pea shooter. No, with all kidding aside, I liked this game...I had tons of C64 games and this was one of my fav. Peace out~~
That 3rd level was impossilbe on the original tape version. I could never get past that level, dispite being able to walk all through that level and not stop. the time always ran out as I got to the door at the end.
That's the end sequence? How did they have the nerve? My commiserations that you actually had to fight to see that... I have many happy memories of the C64, none involving this game (I never got past the glitchy level, and I was even cheating).
I remember down didnt work on my joystick. I could never pass the second level casue I couldnt walk down the stairs! (until i got a new joystick that worked)
I knew this game was f***ing broken! I used to get stuck on the same level every time and it was inpossible to get past it. I spent days tryin to figure that s**t out. What a waste of time!
Jonathan Dunn, a very good musician with the SID (maybe not as good as Rob Hubbard or Jeroen Tel, but the works on Robocop, Platoon and Renegade III are great... look for HVSC on Google)
My game was so glitched, that I was invincible, I was unable 2 get hurt, it was great but I couldn't beat the damn factory level because I was lost lol!!
By the way, you can walk thru the very first wall in that stairs level (sometimes). That was the only way we could get through; this was way too hard without exploiting the glitch.
Yep, walking thru walls and garbled graphics. I spent a lot of time on that game, seriously. My dad actually mailed the game to Ocean requesting a working copy or a refund. Always just got the package back. Thank you for this vid. I really appreciate it.

The warehouse level WAS possible without cheating, but you needed luck to finish it thanks to the tough time-limit, and random placement of enemies.

actually the C64 had 4 channels. 4th channel was devoted to digital drums on this game.
Hence almost no SFX. I think you only got the game SFX if you played without music (made concentrating on the game lots easier!)
gibbonduder182 3 years ago
Actually the C64 had just 3 channels. A 4th channel could be faked by writing 4bits values to the volume control register at high rates (faking a sample channel). The downside is that it takes almost all the CPU time, and therefore isn't used for anything else than static screens.

The thing i cant figure out with this particular track, is wether the Percussion rhythm in the background is digitised or not.
The bass and snare definitely isnt, and so arent the melodies.
Ah just had an idea, listen compare the emulation of the 6581 version to 8580, and if it sounds lower on the 8580 i should be digitised!
djsmithy 3 years ago
Nope, none of it is digitised. It's all SID. ;)
