  • @Commingforyou These things that you mention have nothing to do with whether or not your medical system is socialised or not. They are because the experts were educated in your countries.

In reality, in the UK, NHS GPs earn more than American doctors.

  • every brit and canadian in this advert should be ashamed of themselves. how fucking dare they. if it hadnt been for the nhs my mother would have died during her birth, or during mine. if it hadnt been for the nhs, she would still be effectively blind, my grandmothers alzheimers would go untreated, and my elderly next door neighbor wouldn't have been able to afford a knee replacement. socialised medicine is always there to protect the lucky few in this world, and we dont give it enough credit.

  • @jimmybloodyjimmy heavily edited and misrepresented, all of the people in this video later said that they were mislead and were outraged...

  • @murphyj87. I was almost going to believe you until you brought up the false Sara Palin story. Look it up again.

  • See You Tube video: "severely autistic boy beaten by big government". Be prepared to laugh, get angry and see INSIDE info into american health care of severely autistic who can't speak.....if we can't take care of the least among us, we can't take of anyone...and we bring curses on our nations.....

  • i'm canadian and it's EXACTLY like this in canada. it's so bad that i died yesterday.

    No really. I did.

this is all true. you should believe things that say "Truth" and "right" without question.

    because they're Truth and Right

    right??

    :)

  • I have lived in countries with socialized medicine and I still do. I wholeheartedly recommend that system to anyone not familiar with it.

I've never had a problem in all my years but if I did I could complain to my member of parliament who would investigate it, Costs zilch. I'd hate to have to challenge an insurance company with lawyers getting fat on my premiums.....

  • It's easy to snipe at NHS - everyone knows they cover everybody, but they don't cover everything.

NHS lags in cancer care, dental care, and does not recommend joint replacements the way US MD's do. Yet, the Brits love NHS for what it DOES, and they are way ahead of the USA. We leave 47,000,000 uninsured, while paying more GDP as a nation for health care than ANY of our industrial peers.

This video is an insult to anyone that knows the issues.

  • Nobama and Dems, shove your public health care, and btw Dems, Nobama won't be experiencing it, wake up and quit drinking the cool-aide! What fools!

  • You also don't have a normal profile for a youtube member. Joined in Feb 2009 and only ever viewed 5 videos.

I still think you are an industry troll.

  • You can't defend your stance thus you have resorted to tactics to divert attention away from the real topic. A very dear friend of ours in the UK (oh Goodness- I mean Great Britian) is batteling cancer. She is in her mid 50's and your wonderful NHS, has denied funding for the cancer fighting drug Avastin. Our friend will have to pay OUT OF POCKET for a drug that could very well save her life. You are so freaking ignorant. YOU trust YOUR government- after all their plan probably covers Avastin!

  • The point is badly made.

Its not just the NHS that has problems with Avastin. Check the internet and you will discover instances where insurers such as Wellpoint and Blue Cross Blue Shield refuse to pay for this highly expensive treatment.

The NHS often does battles with the pharma companies and it is usually the pharma companies that come back and lower the price.

Its often a try on because pharmas often price according to what they can get away with.

  • There are exceptions to everything if one looks hard enough. What does that prove? My private insurance has never refused to pay for a drug ordered by my physician, but then again, I PAY for what I GET. Why do you fight the right to have a choice? I am advocating for both- privatized AND a NHS plan in this country. I am advocating improving our CHOICES... not limiting them. Also, I think it is highly likely that YOU work for the NHS. "Me thinks he doth protest too loundly!"

  • Americans are finally being woken up to the dangers of mammography and screening. These have been known about for many years. The US is finally catching up with the UK on the dangers of screening early. I'd rather trust a scientist who looks at facts neutrally than a physician who earns his bread and butter only when women walk into his clinic. He has a financial interest in encouraging screening.

Americans need to learn to trust their government instead of fearing it.

  • Please go live in Cuba or Venezuela and enjoy their government and their healthcare. That is why their Dictators go elsewhere for their care. If this proposed govt care is so great, then why have the geniuses in DC exempted themselves from the same system they are enforcing on the rest of us?This is nothing more than a forced play to take over 1/6th of the US economy. A draconian maneuver for power.

  • Our government has destroyed the best healthcare in the world just so they can force this system on us which will give them control over our lives. It's all about control, it has nothing to do with helping people.

  • The only way for the government to help people is to do less, spend less, and tax less. Government is best when it governs LEAST.

  • I go to doctor in UK. I get appt same day or next day. I have no fee to pay. I get medicines I need for up to 3 months and it costs me about ten dollars (US equiv). Most medicines and treatments are available. Modern medicines and expensive ones are available incl brand named drugs. VERY VERY FEW people get with an NHS drug forumulary restriction and these people can buy them themselves if they want.

    I wouldn't want the U.S. system.

    No way!!

  • I don't know about recent incidents, but about 6 years ago I knew a fellow who died while on a waiting list for heart surgery in the UK. I believe he had been on the list for about a year. It was my understanding that this was not all that uncommon at the time, and that the NHS plan was a lot like Kaiser over here, which has a dismal record of providing timely treatment. I pay a lot of $ for my PPO plan, but I can see any doctor or specialist when I want to without going on a waiting list.

  • Nice try by theorchardhouse, but honestly, nobody dies because of waiting in the UK. If it happened, there would be a big scandal. It simply does not happen. And nobody waits for a year - even six years ago. Waiting times depend on your condition. If it is a mild problem then the wait might be a month or two. For serious life threatening problems you are dealt with almost immediately.

People in the USA really must educate themselves and not trust silly tales like this.

  • My husband is a citizen of the UK and stories like the one I told are not uncommon, thus people in the UK that can afford it have private plans. Why are YOU spreading lies? I am ALL FOR a NHS in the USA, but to say that the UK's NHS is perfect is just being ignorant. What scares me the most is people like you that make generalized statements and tell everyone to "relax... it's all good!" The plan our legislators want US to have should be as good as the one they set in place for themselves!

  • I am a British citizen.

Two things make me think you are an insurance industry troll.

1 You said "citizen of the UK". We don't say that. We say "British citizen" and you ought to know that.

    2. You said "afford", You ought to know that less than 10% of the population in the UK has private insurance. Most thru employment. Less than 1% of the population ever buys insurance!

If the NHS didn't work our democracy would abolish it.

    Doubters should Google "welovethenhs"

  • You are hysterical! "I" am an American citizen, and the "legal term" for a "British Citizen" is a citizen of the UK... have you checked your passport recently to see what it says?! And in regards to what you "Brits" call yourselves, my husband prefers to be called "English." Your second "point" only substantiates what I pointed out in the first place... Not too many people in the UK have private insurance because... hello.. because they can't afford it... not because they don't want it! Duh !

  • I bet you are probaby an Arsenal or Man City fan as well... tsk, tsk!

  • Please stay where you are since your system is so great, but I would/ will take the US system as-is compared to SOCIALIZED ANYTHING. If I "choose" to see or not see a doc. is and should be my CHOICE, and mine alone. I will take care of myself, and I dont want to lose my freedom, and this is just another blow against freedom for everyone. Govt doesn't produce anything. The leading cause of poverty IS- Govt.

Socialism strips you of your SELF and Self reliance..

  • Read last: In the end, once a national health care program is established, those people that can afford to, can purchase private or supplemental health insurance.

  • Read fourth: One of the reasons that our health care has skyrocketed and emergency rooms have closed is because of the cost of illegal aliens and THAT is a documented fact. Conversely, the people that are screaming for the government to "keep their hands off our health insurance" are simply paranoid. Who do you think runs Social Security, Medicare, and a host of other programs? Why aren't these people screaming for an end to these programs?

  • And, one of the "emergencies" that illegals are treated for is pregnancy. So they wait until month #9, then show up at a US hospital about the time they are due, and they can't be denied of course because it's an "emergency".

Ask any nurse at your local city hospital close the southern US border what the majority of their Labor and Delivery patients are. They'll say undocumented aliens, many of whom don't speak english.

And do they pay the bill before they leave? What's your guess?

  • It happens here in Erie, PA. We also get a ton of Canadians.

  • @daddypants22 For every Canadian you get, 1000 Americans come to Canada for Canadian health c are they can't get, are refused by insurance company rationing, or can't afford in their own states. Even Sarah Palin used to travel 122 miles to Whitehorse, Yukon for Canadian health care rather than traveling 90 miles (32 milles less) for inferior American health care in Alaska.

  • Read third: But the second comment I have is that something needs to be done and I think that a national health care system will help those that can not afford health insurance, BUT the goverment needs to promise the American people that this program will only benefit citizens (and yes, Joe Wilson was speaking the TRUTH and President Obama knows this... just another political "smoke and mirror" situation).

  • Read second: The first is that the government run health care programs in Canada and the UK have serious limitations (just like our Medicare program) to help keep the cost down (e.g. limited amount of covered drugs, limited number of physicians that accept this health care program resulting in long waiting lists, age restrictions for certain tests etc.). Because of this fact, people that can afford private insurance still have it in these countries.

  • Read first:The comment about this "video being odd because there are no senior citizens on medicare..." as well as other comments here shows that many people don't understand what this posting is all about. This is NOT a video about the USA's health care system THAT is why there is not a comment about Medicare! This is a video about people from the UK and Canada making comments about those countries existing national health care systems. I think there are two things to consider on this subject:

  • Health care reform is needed but not how Obama wants it. Its true what the guy says about having to wait a rediculous amount of time to be seen. Ive witnessed this first hand. I believe if anything the goverment should working on squeezing phamaceutical company profits and pumping that into out current system while address alot of loose ends. Such as not letting non citizens walk into emergency rooms for having a cold and racking up a bill and having them not pay it.

  • This video is odd. How come there are no senior citizens on medicare talking about what a horrible system it is? Must be an ACCIDENTAL oversight.

  • What is the age of a senior, when there are committees that determine whether or not you can see a doctor or receive care and the Rx that are prescribed? Maybe there are too few seniors left, or they are too afraid of the govt bureaucracies to say anything.Goodbye Granny Govt. Departments.I can fight with an insurance co. but not an overbearing govt. entity. The Vet. hospitals are a perfect example of incompetence and a death mill. My father died in that death mill b/c they wouldnt run a test

  • @zippetydodahday Many of he 2 in 5 Americans who don't have access to health care don't live long enough to become 65 and become eligible for Medicare. this is why Canadians live three years longer than Amercians, Canadians have far better health care than Americans have in their system where insurance company bureaucrats make medical decisions for patients.

  • Or if that link is not working try googling "Anti-healthcare lobbyists duped us, say Katie Brickell and Kate Spall"

  • goto timesonline-dot-co-dot-uk/tol/news/uk/article6795466.ece for more information

  • CPRIGHTS is a bullshit fraudulent "organization" bought and paid for by big pharmaceutical. Don't fall for their lies. They say they want you to have "rights", and then say, "but not to less expensive insurance options." What a crock of crap. CPRights - you're BUSTED!

  • Where new drugs whether for cancer or for other conditions are found to be clinically and cost effective by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), the NHS is required to provide funding for them

  • Interesting that so many of the people quoted in this ad who are supposedly opposed to single-payer healthcare are distancing themselves from this ad and saying that they were lied to by the producers and quoted out of context.

  • The reicht wing and the health insurance companies want federal and state tax dollars through subsidies to provide insurance to the uninsured. This will cost more than 25% per year than a public option. It will cost triple the cost of a public option over a three year period. Don't believe this crap about other countries. Believe what happens right her in this country and how many people are being killed and injured by the corruption of the insurance industry and their crime and corruption.

  • I get so tired of rich private sector individuals and corporations pretending to be "a grassroots campaign of ordinary Americans" and I'm even more offended that the tactic is so successful. This is true of George Soros as well as the "Swift Boat" folks and the current group, "Conservatives for Patient's Rights." Every person I know in Canada and Brittain (arguably the least effective examples of the dozens of universal health care coverage plans worldwide) is generally happy...

  • Who do people think are making decisions about their health care NOW? It's the Insurance Companies, NOT your doctor! Jeez Pete

  • That and we're not looking at an option like what the Brit's have...

  • This is just bogus, totally not the way it is, most Canadians and Brits are happy with their healthcare.

  • Goosey Loosey! The sky is falling in! Scare tactics like these will actually backfire on the Republicans. People will stop trusting anything they say when they realize how false all this was. I'm sure the Dems won't let them forget it. Blair fixed the NHS in England after Thatcher/Major starved it of funds. The right in UK have now been out of office for the past 12 years!! NHS is THE most cherished institution in UK just like Medicare is in the U.S. - Knock them at your peril!

  • Hey Textynn let's break down the HR 3200 bill and see what were working with.

The below listed link will take you to a video that has info on Gov having direct access to your bank account.

Also in the notes of the video & on my page I have 2 links of websites that breakdown the HR 3200 bill plus answer any questions you might have.

    Hope this helps,

    Video link below

    watch?v=v4NN-kHO2Nk

Or the video is on my page

with some of the break down of

    HR 3200 aka (Public Option)

  • Epicstyle. Clearly you have been reading your history books. You know that the Nazis knew that the best lies to tell were the BIG ONES. And yours is indeed a big one. A page right out of the history. This bill will only help people to get the care they need and enable them, if they want to, to stop lining the pockets of the insurance industry bosses and shareholders. It extends coverage to ensure that people do not hit caps on their medical cover and stops discrimination against the sick.

  • Hauskalainen, the big lie here is this bill, clearly you haven't read it. It's easy to attack with no facts but how bout you rebuttal the facts I listed.

There are huge issues in this bill, that will violate are rights in many ways. And will lead to a goverment take over of health care, is HUGE issue. Every where National Health care is ran it is either bankrupt or grossly inefficient.

We need health care reform absolutely, fix the broken system we have currently. Not create more mess

  • If you go to the National Audit Office (NAO) website you''ll be able to find the document "International Health Comparisons: A Compendium of published information on healthcare systems, the provision of health care and health achievement in 10 countries"

It lets you really know how government care compares to free market care.

If the cancer stats scare you, try looking at the recent Charles Gibson's recent ABC report on cancer in the USA. It explains a lot!

  • The main thing to take from this is that spending in UK was $1,737 per head of population and in the U.S. $4,631. The big 4 cancer killers in UK and US killl just as many people overall. Worse is that more potential years of life are lost in US from issues that ARE amenable to health care.

The Gibson report reveals that US predilection for screening leads to many people in US are treated for cancers they don't have! No wonder 5 yr survival stats there look so good - They're an illusion!

  • The difference in cost goes in bribes to congressmen and women, and to lining insurance and medical industry fatcat pockets, company shareholders, and of course into making scary videos that whip up peoples fears. People will do almost anything if they are scared. Hitler knew this, so he built up an imaginary threat from the jews. Now you have the same thing happening in the US about health care.

Americans! Don't give in to scare tactics! Use your brain and don't be brainwashed!

  • hauskalainen, we need health care reform I don't disagree with that but not a government take over of health care. Earlier I listed the links to a complete break down of the HR 3200 bill.

If you go there and read closely you will see different ways that the government is moving toward taking it over. Also some sections that violate are rights of privacy, and are illegal in the Constitution.

Please read the bill before you fight so hard to defend it. We the people need to stand and fight.

  • Smoke and mirrors!

I did better than read the bill. Thanks to C-Span I followed every minute of the scrutiny of the bill line by line as it went thru markup in the House of representatives.

There is no government take over. The public plan is an OPTION and you may only have to show your bank details to the government if you claim to be poor and seek the subsidy to help you buy insurance. That is common sense.

  • The whole point of health care reform is to keep the insurance industry from stripping everyone of everything they own to stay well. The health care industry is all about the shift of wealth and for-profit health care has been the fastest, slickest, most easily exploitable tool the uber rich have come up with. The option is about class not being a barrier to health care. This is a pack of lies about bank accounts. The whole point of reform is keep people from losing everything.

  • If Katie Brickell can't afford to go get a pap smear with her own money, she is never going to be able to afford health care American style. Even if she could afford American health care, after being diagnosed with cancer she would never be able to change jobs because she would have a preexisting condition and be unable to let go of current health care policy because she would be denied a new policy. If she ever got cancer again they would deny her because she has had cancer in the past.

  • If she got too sick to work she would have no health care at all.

  • Textynn, Katie COULD afford healthcare if it was reformed and remained privatized. Right now she is paying more than you do for your insurance through TAXES. Do some research before you open your mouth.

  • You do some research before you open your mouth. Health care costs people more than they can afford period. Over half of bankruptcies are the result of a devastating illness even for those with health care. Millions of working .Americans can't afford health care and millions more can't afford to use the health care they have. BTW You don't know sh** about what Katie pays in taxes so just stay out of it. You're obviously totally uninformed. Your politics are disgusting.

  • Arguing with a marxist like Textynn is futile. It's like debating with a pig, everyone gets full of mud and the pig enjoys it.

Anyone with any sense knows this is a socialist power grab by Obama. There are so many ways to lower healthcare costs if the government would get out.

Textynn is text book marxist - he wants to a kept man, taken care of by the nanny state. Perhaps he should move to Cuba. This is a turning point in this country - we will take it back from Textynns of the world.

  • If you don't write the government a letter and opt out of medicare and social security you are a complete hypocrite. Also I would expect that you never use the US Post Office. Don't ever call 911 for fire or police. Don't send your kids to public school and don't even think about driving on the evil socialized roads, bridges, freeways, etc.

You get out there and clear your own roads you whimppy nanny stater. Next time you think about driving on the roads I suggest you go straight to Cuba.

  • As you can see Textynn has become a babbling idiot at this point and has no clear understanding of the role of government in the U.S. Yet he all for ObamaCare, I guess that speaks for itself.

  • A babbling idiot. Yeah right, you can't hold up your end of this argument so you're just gonna say Im a babbling idiot. Typical drooling bully move. You just can't take it that your logic is shit and you do enjoy socialize roads, schools, etc. and depend on them everyday. How old are you anyway?

  • If anyone is enjoying a nanny state it is the Medical Insurance Industry. They get to collect money on people while it's profitable and as soon as it cuts into their billion dollar profits they throw their patients away for the government to take care of. Same o same o. Privatize the profits , socialize the losses.

  • Unfortunately everything in this video is painfully true. People like Textynn are nothing but radical socialist that want to see the destruction of the this great country.

ObamaCare is nothing more than a means to grab power. If healthcare reform was their true intention, there are many ways to pursue lowering costs - such as opening competition across state lines.

The bottom line - government intervention will not lower cost and improve care. Government is the problem, not the solution.

  • Opening competition across state lines. That is laughable. This industry has cornered the market , takes people's money when its profitable then lets them die needlessly when it costs them. Then after they discarded the sick it is the government that has to care of them. Why take care of people if you can just take their money when their fairly healthy and toss them when they are too expensive to treat. Then Uncle Sam can take care of those thrown away. Privatize the profits socialize the loses.

  • As far as being a radical socialist I find that laughable as well.. Am I a radical socialist when I drive on government built highways , use the post office, call the police, send my kids to public school. Government is the only voice of the people as well. Our media is even monopolized by the Elite. As far as grabbing power, these med insurance co are owned by polluting industry and you can bet they want to control what Americans know about that and how it's affecting them.

  • hey AO, saw you avatar. Is that a picture of you with your mouth covered to represent that you think censoring voices is the way to go. Government can be a problem. W was the poster child for that. But government is the only voice of the people. To tell people not to trust it is to trick them into discarding their only voice. Was it destructive when the gov made the tobacco industry come clean? Total destruction my ass, because I want corporations to be subject to laws. Your thinking is shit.

  • Textynn, you are the one who has not done their homework. AO has it right, it is a religion to you. Liberal Dogma. Do us and yourself a favor, move to Canada or the UK you obviously don't like the US. I will make this real easy for you, if you have the guts (and I do not think you do), read the book "Liberty and Tyranny". Put aside your Dogma for a couple days and see what conservatism is really about. Not what your liberal friends and the media tell you.

  • You need to do your homework and get an education past the third grade. Do you know that the most educated people are Democrats and those making up the Republican party represent the most uneducated citizens. It is the poorest states that vote Republican with some of the highest counts of disease mainly due to lax state leaders allowing lots of pollution in their state. I'm not repeating Dogma because I know what is moral and immoral. I also know politics for the Elite at the cost of the masses.

  • Your thinking is shit . Health care based on class costs this country plenty. When millions of people are left to suffer without access to health care they (and their dependents) end up needing government services as their health deteriorates. But the Medical Insurance Industry Profits by throwing the sick away and not healing them. Socialize the losses and Privatize the Profits. We are not stupid and we don't believe in you Elite serving, at the cost of human lives, way. Evolve will ya??

  • LIE: "If you have cancer in the UK today you are going to die quicker than any other country in Europe." Well it must not be the blame of socialized health care since it is socialized health care that is treating cancer in other European countries. This is just a blatant lie concerning the facts.

Fighting to keep low income classes of Americans disenfranchised from health care so a few can make more money than some countries is beyond the definition of inhumanity.or evil..

  • If they can't afford to buy this drug they couldn't afford to buy any health care in the US. This is a stupid argument. Health care in the US is rationed by class.

  • This video is sponsored by and approved by health insurance industry. Anything else?

I came form Japan. Only people speaking out against health care are the ones want to start an insurance company US style. They are drooling over the profit they have heard about.

  • Obama tells it as it is and you are telling it as it isn't. The government has no desire to take over health care or to nationalize the providers and the public option is just that - an option. And it is defecity neutral. Why are aren't you questioning why that is? Most of Europe has better health care at half the price. Those with private insurers like Switzerland have higher costs. Go figure why!

  • Just a little "fact" that everyone should know about the group that created this "infomercial" bashing public health care. A multimillionare Richard Scott that is obviously looking out for his medical empire and couldnt care less about "conservatives for patient rights" please take the time to learn the facts and where your information is coming from.

  • Richard Lynn "Rick" Scott founded the Columbia Hospital Corporation in 1987. Ten years later, Scott was was ousted by the company's board of directors in the midst of the nation's biggest health care fraud scandal in which the company ultimately plead guilty to fraud and paid a record fine of $1.7 billion dollars.

In 2009 Scott founded CPR, a group opposed to President Barack Obama's health-care policy goals.

  • At the end of the day, is it better to have the chance to be denied for coverage in the UK, or never have the chance at all because you can't get insurance pre-existing condtion or can't afford it?

How many thousands die in this country because they don't get heath care in the first place? Over 20K.

How exactly do patients have rights when they have to apply for specialists? How do we have rights if you can get denied insurance for pre-existing conditions

Don't let this gibberish fool u

  • Socialism is a form of collectivism but then so is insurance ! Get over your "socialized" hang ups!

In England and Canada, when a tragic situation occurs such as your neighbor's house is ablaze, community action funded by taxes comes along to the rescue. If his wife gets cancer, community action is used to to treat her.

I don't see why in the U.S. the health care system cannot be funded more like the fire department as happens in most other countries.

  • America does a lot of things very well, but health is one area where they dont do well. They suck. FLAT SUCK.

  • @inspectorgadget0022 Lying is a thing they are good at it. I owe my life to government healthcare. My mother was just working class and I was being born prematurely. I spend some 6 months in an incubator.

In America they would have let me and my mother die or bury her in debt. In my own country we got helped... free of charge during the worst crisis this country ever had. Free of charge. How's that for you, yankees ?

  • @AmersfoortTristan

How is paying 50% in taxes free of charge!?!?!?

    Think before you post comments.

  • @TimeWarp66 Only for the real big earners. Think before you post.

  • @AmersfoortTristan

    1)Everyone pays 50%. Don't lie to yourself.

    2) Therefor it is not free of charge.

    3) Not all costs are in the form of money. Waiting years to receive treatment is a huge cost for the amount you pay in taxes. Socialism doesn't work.

  • @TimeWarp66 A typical dumb American.

We privatised our healthcare system anyways but I looked up how much the HIGHEST BRACKET was in 1982 as we use (and continue to use) a progressive tax system. Back in the day the highest bracket (for the real rich) was 68 percent and healthcare was in the form of the Ziekenfonds which was a general mutuality fund.

    2) Stop talking bullshit

    3) Stop talking bullshit

  • @TimeWarp66 sorry, but i have to ask...it seems you support rick scott...i wonder how you feel about Floridians' property insurance rates jumping by 15% a year? is that good enough for you? or would you rather pay more to insure your home per year than it is worth?

  • @TimeWarp66 You're confusing socialism with communism.

Socialism assuredly does work, and has worked for a very long time in the UK. If you asked a Brit what socialism is, they would probably point to the Labour Party or name names such as Tony Benn, Anuerin Bevan or Neil Kinnock - all popular and principled politicians.

  • @BasilFawlty4444

England, while having many stupid socialist programs like the United States, is still a Capitalist country. Most goods and services are allocated through private market forces. It's just a matter of degree. The U.S is more Capitalist than England, but unfortunantly, not by much.

  • @TimeWarp66 And you really need to start thinking. According to the WHO's rankings, America is BEHIND the UK in provision of healthcare. Infact, you're not only behind, you're MILES behind - just above Slovenia.

Now, in the UK, all healthcare is "free at the point of use." This means that we pay out of our taxes, in the same way in the US your taxes also pay for schools and libraries.

So why why why is the US spending trillions on weapons when you could be providing world-class healthcare?

  • @BasilFawlty4444

We are ranked 37th in access, but 1st in quality of care. The problems of access are do to high prices which are caused by government regulations.

Public education and public libraries are disgusting shit holes. I don't want our hospitals looking anything like those. Theirs nothing "world class" about socialism. Why is it that wealthy Brits and Canadians buy private if you socialist medical system was such a utopia?

  • @TimeWarp66 What do you mean "buy private?" Yes, the private option is there in the UK, but few choose to use it.

Now, I've seen private wards. Rich people choose to use them not for the difference in hygene or treatment standards, but because they are pampered to with the same sort of services that you would find in, say, a 5 star hotel... I'm talking chefs, waiters, single rooms. THIS is what they pay for!

  • @TimeWarp66 So... instead of throwing people in prison when they don't have insurance and can't pay for their healthcare, adopt a universal healthcare scheme, but keep the private option open.

Instead of restraining your country and neglecting your people, you are free to go private when YOU injure yourself, instead of neglecting the people that really need it:

  • @AmersfoortTristan

    1) Taxation is theft.

2)You're a tool of the state.

    3) Congratulations.

  • @TimeWarp66 1) Taxation isn't theft as we get things in return. It's paying your contribution to society.

    2) You're a tool of big business as libertardism is anarchy for the rich.

    3) Piss off, stupid yank.

  • @TimeWarp66 Mate, you're still taxed. The only difference is that your government spends your money on nukes and black projects rather than the things that really matter... like universal healthcare. The fact that you still resist it is testimony to how plutocratic the US continues to be.

America constitutes 47% of the world's defence expenditure. You really need to get your priorities right... last time I checked, the Berlin Wall came down more than 20 years ago!

  • The first girl Kate Spall appeared on sky news and said she had been tricked into bashing the NHS, she said it failed her but she is not so naive to think that it happens to everybody. The UK ranks much, much higher than the US in terms of healthcare.

The Republicans just don't want their taxes increased to help out people that are sick, dying and need health care. They may call it socialism and throw it around like a dirty word but refusing to help other people who need it is inhuman.

  • PS Health system 2 has no budgetary control processes so costs may spiral out of control. System 2 also allows insurers to rid themselves of the coverage risk of the highest risk group (the elderly) to the government, who still have to pay fees when they are retired for care subsidized by all taxpayers.

  • Health System 2: Give thousands of ICs (insurance companies) what they ask for. Allow ICs to avoid paying costs (co-pays/caps/deductibles). Allow ICs to recind policies of the sick. Let ICs force paperwork on doctors and the sick. Force the doctors to argue with multiple ICs over what treatments will be reimbursed and at what cost.Allow the ICs to hold health care funds back to pay off shareholders.

  • Health System 1: Give the doctors 90% of nation's health care budget and tell 'em to treat as many as they can with it for the maximum benefit to all.

  • I'm not going to claim that the NHS is perfect, it isn't, however let's look at the facts...

UK healthcare - rated 18th best in the world.

US healthcare - rated 37th in the world for performance and 72nd for overall level of health.

  • Could someone provide a link to the patients here who are saying they were taken out of context?

  • I don't really care what happens to the US health system, but don't Diss the NHS! We're doing fine as we are.

Americans do you know why you guys have health problems, because you're all stressed from these kind of adverts. chill out man, Obama is here to save you.

  • WHO ranks US #34 in the world both UK and canada are above them, the UK by a long way, on top of that pretty much all of the top ten have universal healthcare

  • If anyone's interested, half of the people in this video appeared on various british networks to say they'd been taken out of context, and that their point was it needs to be improved.

  • What i don't get is that if there was no NHS then these people STILL wouldn't be getting treatment!

    Absolutely nonsensical.

  • Many of these interviewees have been duped and comments taken out of context. While not perfect, the vast majority of people in the UK support the NHS and the system we have here. Health is a RIGHT! You are WRONG!

  • I am fed up with the American Conservatives using the UK and Canadian Health Care systems as scapegoats to their own agenda! Go look at the welovethenhs twitter trend and see how many people have benefited from this fine establishment. Or maybe go look at Gordon Brown's story who would be blind if it was not for the NHS helping him when he was young! Go look at facebook groups such as 'American Conservatives putting the NHS in a negative light is wrong!' group.

  • I'm really sick of these neo-con Canadian spin doctors who try to garner fame from the American right by going on and lamenting our health care and other social programs. If anything, the Canadian system is TOO accomidating and the reason we have waiting lists is because too many people take advantage of the system for trivial ailments.

  • Who the hell say to copy Canada and UK. COPY TAIWAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, if insist on public option. What a bunch of shortsighted fools. With the current system good luck getting the new drugs, there are NOT IN FORMULARY. I don't care for public option, but there got to be law that limit the COST OF HEALTHCARE, no more pre-existing condition bs, and increase coverage. With current recession, insurance and pharma continue to make billions with MONOPLY.

  • To be honest, you are pretty stupid.

They are not shortsighted. Restrictions on the cost of healthcare will only put insurance companies out of business because they can not charge people the proper amount for their healthcare.

The only monoply that exists is the government funded healthcare, because it is a monoply.

Monoplies do NOT form in capatlism, have you ever heard of economics?

  • Sahme you don't have the CEO's of healthcare companies making $10 milion aq year glaoating how they slaughter people for denying promised treatment in videos from these sumbag front groups like these for the rich.

But conservatives never change, it all for the rich all the time. This whole video is irrelevant.

  • oh PLEASE. This is Bullshit with a capital B.

The government run system is superior in that it DOESN'T WORK FOR PROFIT. All these insurance companies? They want to make profit and they save money on the patients to make it!

Take this from a man from Belgium, with a government run health care system: it rocks!! Everytime I go to the doctor, I have to pay next to nearly nothing. And it's the same for surgery, dentistry,... Waiting lists are not long except for donor organs, which is normal.

  • well that may be true for belgium, where your total population is 10,403,951 people. universal health care just can't work for the u.s. that has a population of 304,059,724 people. quite differen't from belgium wouldn't you say? if we had universal health care, people would stop complaining about the price of health care to be sure, but they would be complaining about the sky rocketing rise in taxes that would pay for this. the negatives of not having care is not even comparable to universal care

  • Grove,

Somehow all of the countries of the EU, an economy and population larger than the US are able to manage covering over 95% of the people, without spending even half as much as we do in this country.

I honestly think your opposition is based on a poor education of the reality the rest of the world is living.

  • well we have a population of 304 million people where uk and france have under 60million people. there is the difference bud. thats why they can cover that many people (even though it is clearly pointed out that most uk health care systems experience rationing and trillions in debt)

but your retarded if you think countries in europe have a greater population then us

  • the real problem with healthcare reform is that blacks and poor will get healthcare

    that's not what america wants

  • are you allowed out of the house without a helmet on?

  • yes

i think you have misconceptions about Canada's healthcare systems

it is not like the gov't is regulating the people's lives

they are just regulating the costs and bringing them down by shutting out the middleman insurance companies

  • your mentally retarded. in plain english. canada's system is so broke they have a lottery for care. they have 30mill ppl. uk's system is so broke their economy is bout near shut down and trillions in the red. they have 60 mill ppl. so if canada has a broken system with 30 mill and uk has a broken system with 60mill. how can universal health care work for america if we have 304 million people? if you had common scence you would know this. ever wonder why everything cost more in canada? thats why

  • you can lie all you want

it does not make your argument true

  • i think your are confused about the proposed plan. it's nothing like the canadian or uk plan. this is just a "public option" IF YOU WANT to join that plan, but if you are happy with your private plan, nothing changes for you. so you are against something you don't understand. this is about getting more for our medical $, we pay the most and get the least of any industrialized country, so it's time to fix it, come join in the fun!

  • i was not arguing over the public option. i was talking about the scares of nationalized health care. because thats what they want in the long term. its easy to control ppl. because its a much smaller step to take from gov. option, to gov. control. plus how fair is it that if the "public' opition needs more money all they have to do is pass a bill (that takes taxes from ppl that don't even use the public option) when regular compainies have to work for the money.

  • nonsense, there is no discussion of nationalized healthcare, never has been, never will be. this is just about modernizing the records so they are all electronic to eliminate errors and duplicate tests, procedures... eliminate the blocking of pre-existing conditions, then offer an affordable plan to people that don't currently have health care. its not any more complex than that

we have public roads, sewers, power utilities, internet backbone, and those seem to be popular, wouldn't you agree?

  • the usa could have a great universal healthcare system for 304 million people.

But unfortunatley it involves a little thing called TAX which most people from the USA seem unwilling to pay for some bizare reason. So hears this for you retarded fools TAX=GOOD PUBLIC SERVICES

NO TAX=SHIT PUBLIC SERVICES which is what america has got!!!

  • No, you idiot.

People do not pay tax because they are unhappy with government services, because the government has a hard time organizing services. Many people would rather spend their money on more efficent private run organizations. How can we have shit public services when the government spends trillions of dollars a year? Because the government can no efficently organize organizations.

  • At least I could use the thousands of dollars I saved from healthcare costs that, sadly, Americans have to pay for.

  • See that;s at least honest. Bigoted, ridiclous, racist and ignorant but honest.

This is what stopped health care 60 years ago with Truman. Blacks could go to white hospitals.

What sad state of affairs. Luckily your demographic is on its way out in this country. It must burn you up inside to see it, ever so clearly in a the fact we have a Brown president. Your Grandfather KKK must be rolling in hell.

  • Rick Scott is a medical insurance criminal.

So if you support this video or "Conservatives for Patient's Rights", you are part of a criminal organization trying to keep medical prices high so they are kept RICH, you are kept poor and unhealthy.

Rise up and support Obama since he is actually going to fix this mess.

  • you bring up a point about his insurance fraud, but let me ask you this to be fair, 30% of obama's cabinet picks have tax problems (which is similar to fraud) one of which (tim geithner) owed several hundreds of thousands of dollars and at the time, was the person responsible for making sure others payed their taxes. so why haven't people like you or in the media made a big deal about that? i mean i wouldn't wan't ppl with tax evasion making bills that would tax me. would you?

  • none of them were involved in fraud, it's just in the days of 24/7 news, blogs and youtube, a couple of them had to adjust past returns. Geithner owed $17,230 (Not $100k's) because as an American citizen working for the IMF, he was technically considered self-employed and was required to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for himself as both an employer and an employee. He didn't realize that so it was considered an honest mistake

I'm sure you owe taxes as well you just haven't been exposed

  • i will honestly admit i ment to say several thousands of dollars he owed, and of course you would know if i pay my taxes of not. but that still doesn't account for the fact that he was the person that was supposed to makes sure others pay their taxes and doesn't account for the other cabinet picks that obama choose. a guess it was a simple mistake on the other cabinet picks rite?

  • when is the last time you worked for the IMF? did you realize your pay didn't take taxes out like every other job you had? of course not. it was a simple mistake of of a complex life, it wasn't intensional, that's why nobody that was rational raised much of a fuss.

ah, you must have missed my comment eariler, i said "with a 24/7 news, blog, youtube world" we live in, you're going to see more of that from here on out, bush, clinton would have had the same issue if they had to pick today.

  • but of course i have know way of knowing if bush and clinton cabinet picks had tax problems to. so i guess im gonna have to take your word?

  • yes, and that's what i'm saying, since those cabinet picks were made before mass internet, blogs, youtube, and email usage became part of the equation.

nobody has a way of knowing now, but if bush or clinton had made picks 6 months ago, they would have also found 2 or 3 with tax issues. so Obama isn't to blame for any of it, it's just the nature of the age.

  • Obama's Politics of Collective Redemption

    By Kyle-Anne Shiver

And in this seemingly redemptive offering, Obama may be promising what only God can actually deliver, in the form of yet another, more eloquent, version of the same old utopian dream that started with Rousseau and Marx.

  • With more than 60% of US bankruptcies are related to medical bills, an increase of nearly 50% in a six-year period, and three-quarters of these people had medical insurance. No other country has a medical system that makes people go bankrupt. Our health care system is totally broken. This is a clear case of health insurance companies behaving badly.

Unless you are the health insurance companies, no reform is not an option for most of us. We need to exercise our right to build a better future.

  • Look up Richard Scott, he is behind these advertising and the organization that serves them.

The guy has a very dirty background in a company called HCA In 2000, HCA that pleaded guilty to about 14 felonies for a total of $1.7 billion in criminal and civil fines.

This is who defends the health care status quo here in the United States.

  • This is an utter joke. Both of my grandparents were diagnosed with cancer. The treatment they received was exceptional and they are cancer free today. Even though they are well into their 80's, they are active, healthy and happy. Never have I heard of people with life threatening illness in Canada being neglected healthcare. there are issues that need to be dealt with, but lack of care for the severely ill is not one.

  • These are either people that like to bitch about everything, healthcare included, or paid actors.

  • whatever but your right. we should all act like the anti-bush and anti-war demonstrators did. i mean they were civil and calm. and we are right wing extremists, for wearing shirts that said obama was the anti-christ. i mean you never saw anything cruel or outlandish against bush comparing him to a devil. never in a million years. and its true those people you see at town hall meeting are paid. a normal citizen would never yell at his congressman about not reading a 800 billion dollar bill.fuck u

  • hmmmmmmm ya i suppose you're right now all i have to do is decipher what the fuck you are talking about.

  • i couldn't have been any more clearer. mabey if i made my opinion out of glitter and crayon you'd understand it better

  • that'd be swell, dot the i's with hearts plz.

  • this is a obviously a diversionary tactic but i'm taking the bait.

you just compared people trying to save lives to people trying to save money.

  • Free Health Care!!

Wanna bet your freedom on it?

  • I'm British and have to say that is complete bullshit.

  • I'm a Brit as well, and I can assure you, the NHS is quite the catastrophe.

  • I've never had any problems whatsoever with it, neither has my family.

  • So why does your profile say home country is the US?????

  • I have the bill on PDF (aval. on internet from the house of rep.) Page 425 does in fact require anAdvance Care Planning Consultation every 5 yrs. It includes living wills and durable

powers of attorney, and their uses. (E) An explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice, and benefits for such services and supports that are available under this title.

Rationing creeping death for the elderly.

  • As a Canadian who has had an 82yr old mother go through major surgers and heart attack here in Canada. WHAT FILTHY LIES! This group is putting out on this tape! HOW DARE YOU LIE!

NO one dies in Canada, I can show you news reports of Patients dying in waiting rooms in YOUR Hospitals! SHAM on this Lie!

  • I'm pretty sure those were Canadians that were just in the video.

  • That's the problem with these scurrilous Rethugnicans: they're all congenital liars & evil sociopathic traitorous scumbags. They're too stupid to know what will work and what won't.

Today they even had the nerve to put out a news story saying "Obama Healthcare" will MANDATE that people have sex changes!

I kid you not! It just goes to show how wacko these evil fascist lying slimeball Repugnicans are.

What we're witnessing: the last gasps and death throes of the evil Rethugnican party.

  • How did Saskatchewan accomplish single-payer non-profit public medical insurance in 1940s ?

    Tommy Douglas and Mouseland.

    Check it out.

  • It's too bad that we don't seem to care about our soldiers. We have put them through so much! I can't believe that we have sat by while the government has ram-rodded government run health care up their butts. This is a ridiculous video. You can find dissent anywhere, just ask the half of the Republican Party that wants to split off and form their own party and install Glen Beck as their new leader.

  • wildguido wrote;

"half of the Republican Party that wants to split off and form their own party and install Glen Beck as their new leader."

I want to do that now! Iv'e had it with these lyin' crooks! Lets Vote them all out Start with Pelosi, Reid, Frank and that idiot from PA, Arlen Spector! He reminds me of all those Old Washed Up Professional Boxers that will do anything to keep getting paid. Politicians are totally ripping us off, and our kids and grandparents too... meh

  • Listen to this speech by the great communicator, he tells the dems plans and how they consider Socialism a progressive ideology.

Just copy, paste and be enlightened:

    RONALD REAGAN SPEAKS OUT

  • Thanks, if I want an *actor* giving me my opinions, I'll just listen to Al Gore.

Al's a dumb-ass, but the only thing his proposals will cost you *is* money.

Ronald Reagan (through his society-changing "tax reforms") has more than likely killed more people than all the less than smart Democrats combined.

I say again, I'll take a party that tries to help people and falls short (Democrats) over a party that tries to help itself and succeeds (Republicans).

  • Its a pity that the Democrats plans DO NOT embrace government healthcare, because then Amercians would see how good health care can be when its run in the service of the people and not in the interests of private profit. As it is they are keeping private profit in the system which is a pity.

  • I guess I'll take a party who tries to help people and falls short (Democrats) over a party that tries to help themselves and succeeds (Republicans).
