@Martian74 I don't think you can compare the Russian loss of life in WWII to this, as the Holocaust was a systematic extermination that dehumanized on a level never seen before. Furthermore, just because a filmmaker chooses to remember the Holocaust does not mean he is disregarding other great tragedies of our time, he simply has chosen a specific one. it defeats me how a heartfelt documentary trailer can be so misinterpreted as some grand statement diminishing some other tragedy.
@JohnnyPtolemy My original comment was about the length of the film (9 hours), not its topic. Even this trailer could have been edited better as again it has a number of dead spots that could have been cut shorter. You can compare the Russian loss of life with the Jews because Soviet prisoners of war were in even worse camps than the Jews were as many of them didn't even have shelter and had to dig holes in the ground. They also were treated worse in Auschwitz but they (now Russia) got over it.
@Martian74 It isn't a matter of "getting over it". This film, nor do any other Holocaust projects, represent simply animosity towards Germans - they don't hold Germans today as Nazis at any rate. But just because one should forgive, does NOT mean one should forget. Furthermore, the percentage of Jewry wiped out in the Holocaust is far greater than the percentage of Russians wiped out in the Gulags, which may contribute to the different reactions.
@JohnnyPtolemy Gulags lacked evidence systematic executions, such as gas chambers. Stalin could readily have used gas chambers if he wished; he executed almost a million persons in 1936-1938.
@Martian74 Jewish POWs--as they in effect were--Also dug trenches, for the Nazi soldiers. Perhaps it was warmer in the bitter German winter than in Stalingrad, but comparing of the two experiences seems irrelevant. I do agree with you that both situations were deplorable.Perhaps because of the Iron Curtain, perhaps because the victors andallies write the history books, we know relatively little about Russian war atrocities in comparison to those committed by the Germans.
@Martian74 Also, in my critical opinion, the trailer was edited well. The "dead spots," I am nearly certain, were intentional. Think about it, the entire movie is about a silenced generation.
@wajamagogo Have you watched the whole movie in one sitting? It is nine (9!!!) hours long so what I said about it being "unnecessarily long", is not ignorant but a valid fact. Documentary makers need to tell a story that people can actually watch, not make it sooo long that it is unwatchable in its' entirety. The rest of my previous comment is valid as well and I still stand by what I said. Point out my 'unintelligent' or 'ignorant' comments and I will admit it if they are but they aren't.
@soulle People do. This is not the place to talk about those, this was set up for the jewish people. Stop trying to make little of what happened. Do not repsond on here again

That is without a doubt the most unintelligent and insensitive comment I have ever read.
You should take some time to learn rather than posting such ignorant and revolting statements

because it's forbidden to criticize ANYTHING jewish on this planet? his comment was definitely NOT unintelligent nor was it insensitive or ignorant.
you should take some time to think before condemning other opinions.

Ok, we get it, it was grim. Still doesn't give Isreal a gold pass to act like assholes though.

Great movie but it needed some serious editing and many places such as the interviews and the overlong shots of the landscapes.
