I got me a 000-15 recently, what strings d'ya use to get that dark sound? Mine sounds a teeeeny bit thin, I want a more vintage sound like you're getting!
Wow!! This is some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard. Martin guitars as a nice sound. Keep on posting. Me to I'm learning Merle Travis Fingerpicking.
I really really like your playing, especially of this tune!
You've got an awesome authentic playing and impressive skills.
I wanted to ask you something - I just bought this guitar, the Martin 000-15, a few weeks ago. I want to replace the old Martin strings with something better. Which do you put on yours for that vintage, bouncy warm sound?
Hi Lemonade Boy, Thanks for the comments. I use Phosphor Bronze strings, either 12 or 13s (light or medium). I really like John Pearse strings, but they are a bit expensive so I tend to opt for D'addario. I'm not much of a fan of the Martin strings, and would definitely recommend switching...
Can you really put mediums on the 000 ? In martin's site they say the maximum recommended tension for 000 and OM models is medium-light, and minimum recommended is light.
Yesterday I put some Newtone Heritage strings on the Martin (I ordered it before reading the reply) and I don't like them too much so far. They are lower gauge and tension but the sound is tinny and small. Maybe I need to wait a few days. The guitar's "old" smell is gone with the new strings too... :(
yeah, it's probably best to stick with 12s for the 000. don't know about the newtone heritage...but you're right, it does tend to take a few days for strings to settle in and sound good...
thank you. this is just a cheap martin, the 000-15. they sound great for this style though. i also use a tacoma pr-12, which is built like an old gibson nick lucas...
yeah it's the sunburst one. i don't know much about the other tacoma models. looks like the pm28 is the closest to the one i have, which they discontinued for some odd reason...
that really swings

This is by far my favorite interpretation of this song, and yet I'm not even able to learn 2 notes of it... :(
I searched the web for a matching tab, but it is nowhere to be found.
Congratz anyway, that was highly entertaining. ;)

Nice job. I played this tune for 30 years.....
Learned it from: Dave Van Ronk and them from Rev. Gary Davis......
If there are fans out their of Merle Travis, his son is also a good picker. I saw him play live at a festival in North Carolina.

I really like your Tacoma's sound (the sunburst one, right?)
I'm considering a Tacoma myself. Looks like the only one I can afford is the EM9 mini-jumbo. Have you tried it? I like fingerstyle...
