Local and county govts DO part-take in over seeing and investing with fire and police depts (community investment to the general public vicinity). But not for long! .... at one point, ambulance services were once part of a budget service for local and county govts and most that I personally see today are PRIVATE owned. Only most metro fire departments are payed for by property taxes. Saying they are socialized is an intellectually weak mans argument. Fire departments are under LOCAL control and not Federal control. Also most do not continue to grow out of control like ALL federal government programs do.

How much FEDERAL money goes to your local fire dept? Look it up for your area. Unless there is some sort of special circumstance, not a dime. They are paid for by property tax dollars (collected by the county) and sometimes also sales tax collected by the city if the Fire Dept is inside of a city limits. Most of the time you can find out this info for your area online.
