is there anything to be said with how much he wraps his bat? He has quick enough hands where it prevents this from affecting him but when teaching a majority of people that's something that is usually taught opposite
@tkauffman09: It's not so much Cano has "quick hands" it's that he has super hip thrust and efficient movement around his spine that pulls his hands quickly through impact. His hands are the "whip" if you will...the result of massive torque created with his core and hip muscles.
somewhere around 4:55 robinsons foot is almost facing the camera, how can that be comfortable, im not criticizing i have to know how they hit like that because i tried it and i almost snapped my foot. Or atleast it just didnt feel right
@sports5991: are you referring to his back heel almost facing the camera? Remember, that's him catching himself. Some hitters may not have as much ankle mobility as Cano does.
@sports5991: that will happen naturally with the hip thrust...the front foot will "peel" open...you can also watch Bonds, he does this more than Cano.
I'd like to see you do one of these videos on Pedroia. He's consistently and inarguably one of the best hitters in baseball and his swing contains no "double inside load". He uses all of his 5'9 frame to "hit the ball to mars" every single at bat. There is no sure fire way to teach a kid to hit besides teach him/her the basic mechanics and let them do the rest. I agree with @avskickass15 and I'm looking forward to that Pedroia video.
@trodafishback: I'd love to get Chas to do one on Pedroia, it would show a great comparison of an elite power + consistent swing versus, not as much HR power. Pedroia in 2011 showed up 30th overall in OPS (which is still pretty good), but he doesn't hit for HR power like the top 10 do. Sure, he hits an above average amount of doubles per season. Maybe a double knee inside load (or riding the back hip better) would help to boost some of his power numbers. All this at 180lbs is very good.
Robinson Cano is one of, if not the greatest, hitter in baseball right now. Great case study. I don't think people realize that each hitter has to perfect their swing and that it is more than just "Hitting the ball to mars".
@eflores1804: I couldn't agree more...unfortunately if you tell every kid to "hit the ball to mars," we'll be in the same sinking boat :( I'm glad someone else gets it besides you, me, and Chas Pippitt :)
Look...all these stupid analyses things...they're so dumb. "double inside load" no. shut up. you come to the plate. you plan to hit the ball to mars. keep your head on the ball, leg kick if that's your thing and let it rip. You think Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker were worried about a "double inside load." no way. keep it simple
@avskickass15: to each his own...Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker were tremendous ball players in the "dead ball" era...they had NO power according to today's standards. AND, they were also not swinging SUPER light aluminum bats, which handicap any consistently powerful swing.

Robby Cano has one of the best swings in the game. His bat stays in the hitting zone for a very long time.
