  • May all sentient beings have happiness and the causes of happiness. May all sentient beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.

May all sentient beings have joy and the causes of joy. May all sentient beings remain in great equanimity, free from attachment and aversion!

  • I am trying to find high quality audio of this kind of chanting.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

  • I am very interested in religion. I know a decent amount of Hinduism but not much of Buddhism.

I know that it is not "atheism". It is not a "religion" correct? What exactly does the belief system entail? I know the "generics" like trying to live without material possesions..eh I dont know. Can you please enlighten me?

  • Your question's answer could fill an entire

university semester, on an intellectual level, and an entire lifetime, on an

    'realized' level. Perhaps some short

    proverbs will shed light.

Buddhism is not what you think.

The land that is nowhere, that is the true home.

In the empty chamber, light is produced.

I have no religion, I make character my religion.

    Namaste.

  • Figured as much...perhaps a better question would be, where should I start so I can learn more?

  • When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

  • If you can, buy a book of Buddha's sayings translated into English. It's the best place to start. I think Buddha would be shocked to see modern day Buddhism. For example, Buddha did not condone idol worship of himself, and though I appreciate that many of the Buddha statues are intended only as a thank you and recognition of his teachings, too many people pray to him as a god.

  • That appears to be the case with many teachings today..

Thanks for the info, I will do that for sure

  • @tiki2188 I'd suggest reading a book like words of my perfect teacher.

    And most important:

look inward, meditate on love and compassion and it will become clear to you.

One sentence that I remember that was very powerfull and inspiring for me was "remember that in the innumerable times that we have reincarnated on this plane every being has been at least once our mother and at least once our child." (not quoted perfectly, but this is the image that fits)

  • Tiki, a good place to start would be the Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tzu. You can download it for free online. Also can get it as an app for your iPhone.

  • Thank You

  • Awesome ... thank you!

  • how shoul one meditate using this video..??

  • FA..

  • That symbol in the middle is awesome. What does it mean?

  • it means brahman, the ultimite reality.

  • I thought Brahman was a Hindu thing?

  • buddism is a branch of hinduism. its all the same idea but in buddism the goal is to reach Moksha or Nirvana faster.

  • I definitely see the similarities. Don't you think its a pretty big difference that Hindu's believe in God and that Buddhists don't, though?

  • Namaste. Buddha was not an atheist, as many modern, corrupt buddhists would have you believe. He simply rejected the degeneration of the spiritual leaders of his day and the various man-made gods created to placate the ignorant masses. Because of his illusion- bursting awakening, he realized that the god that could be spoken of was not the true God, that the Uncaused Cause was beyond the ability of the finite, dualistic consciousness to comprehend. There are many sutra references to God.
  • That makes sense. Didn't he say something about how having God was the ultimate attachment though?

  • God is hidden from minds clouded by desires.

We should let go even of the idea of

    "ultimate attachment".

  • Thank you for teaching me! I've been interested lately in Indian religions, and I appreciate it.

  • buddhists belive on a superior power

  • Hindus may see Buddhism as a branch of Buddhism. Buddhists don't.

  • even though they share some of the same ideas and basic roots they arose together, yet separately from one another, from a basic primitive root...
