The truth is that this stupid teenager was trying to impress his date. He threw the cherrybomb at George's feet. He got in a ton of trouble. Was arrested and, from what I understand, was extremely sorry to have done this. My friend Frank happens to know the guy. Just a stupid teenage prank.
How in the hell does throwing a cherry bomb at Harrison's feet impress a teenage girl? If the boys from Liverpool had any reservations about no longer touring, this idiot ended it. Thank the moron for all of us!
A friend of mine in Memphis knew the kid who threw the cherry bomb. He ended up being arrested and from what my friend has told me, he got his butt in a huge amount of trouble.
I still have my ticket stub and tour guide. Great memories but my only regret was not really being able to hear the Beatles...
First off, I hate you for having seen The Beatles. Haha.
Secondly, I actually have heard that from many many many people. Everyone always says that it was completely inaudible. I met someone who went to Shea Stadium and said it was impossible to hear and the first time they ever "heard" the concert they attended was when the video was released for purchase. That's just crazy.
You could barely hear the guys with all the stupid screaming chicks there, lol. Plus the sound system they used at the time was pretty crude. They basically ran their amps through the Mid South Coliseum's PA system. As I said crude!
Come on people. It's fake. *GASP!* Nice AfterEffects though.
How many YT dorks have you seen do Star Wars light saber stuff similar to this? Difference is, this is the Beatles.
Clip is 8 seconds long and very dark. Could've been anywhere on the '66 tour, as well as the audio. News flash, girls screamed at EVERY Beatle show, audio could've been from any other show.
This footage is Really from the Evening Show Memphis, TN August 19, 1966 ... the audio is sourced from recently released audience reel to reel tapes that came out on the MC Label in Japan .... YES THE VIDEO IS FAKE .... it was fun little project for those to see what it might have looked like
I was at this concert! I can remember watching Paul's reaction and he was pretty shook up! I don't blame the Beatles for not wanting to tour anymore, especially after this!
This was shortly after Lennon's bigger than Jesus comment. The Beatles press agent Tony Barrow gave the follwing statement about that concert "I do recall that once we did get down to that area, the southern states, that a firecracker was let off during the concert in Memphis and everybody, all of us at the side of the stage, including the three Beatles on stage, all looked immediately at John Lennon. We would not at that moment have been surprised to see that guy go down."
Well.... as of right now.... there is no film or video that exist from the Afternoon Concert so .... who knows what the beatles reaction would have been..
The footage in the MMR's reaction is from the widely circulating 8mm Color fan shot film from the Eveing Concert.......
I knew someone had let a cherry bomb off in the concert but I didn't realise it went off on stage! What a nightmare, who can blame them for never touring again.
You can hear some girl yelling "Get them off the stage!" in a nice, southern accent.

Leave it to rednecks to ruin a great show. Forget the Beatles, let's have a hillbilly jamboree!!!

What monsterous people were out there - and Chapman was right there in Georgia at the time soaking it all up.
Shocking and sickening.

George briefly talks about this is the ANTHOLOGY documentary:
"Someone would throw a firecracker and you'd think one of the others got shot or something..."
I know it'd scare the sh** out of me.

August 19, 1966 Memphis,TN
George was singing "If I needed someone"
Someone Threw something on to the stage 10 feet from George.
It exploaded and The Beatles stopped playing for a few seconds
They looked at each other to see who would fall down Dead
Once they realized nothing had happened they started playing again.
My uncle was at that show
