i dont know if this would work, but instead of digging down all the way to bedrock you could just put the cactus a few (5-8?) blocks below the ladder. the way i see it the fall itself would hurt them and bouncing around on the cactus would kill em pretty quick, but it saves a lot of digging time/tools.

@KaszaMuna447 Unless you're sitting there waiting for them to fall it's much more likely that they will return and get the items themselves, or the items will disappear after 5 minutes. If you were to camp down there for items, you could simply remove the cactus while you were there and replace it as you left.

He has made it brigther added smooth lithing and now in 1.8 multiple lights... all of these updates ruins this trap becouse you can see the bottom and you can see that the ladders stops.. I made one similar to this, but it trapped people by using a pressureplate to close the entrance to stop fly-modders and a closing wall that pushes them into a hole which then burns em alive and since theres ladders under the lava their drops are all mine >:)

lol i did this and had a good idea instead of making holes just hollow out about 4 blocks long and wide of the cactus and make it about 2 blocks higher than the cactus itself, this way not only can you kill them and piss them off, but you can take their stuff too

AHAHAHA, I just did this on my war server (took about 10-15 minutes to get all the stuff needed, starting with nothing), and I owned, what, 3-5 people in a row within the space of 5 minutes!

It was insane! xD

Only problem is - Make sure you DO mine it to bedrock. I didn't, and a chappy with iron armour killed me when he survived the fall :(
