That means that all the way across the Atlantic, they have the throttles fully open, and as they burn off fuel, they slowly drift higher as they become lighter. This means you'll notice the altitude slowly going up and up all the way through the cruise until descent.
thats not true^^ they don't have the throttles fully open during the whole flight.
the do climb during the whole flight until they start decending but they dont have the throttles fully open all the time. if they did, they would not even fly one third of the distance.
They don't have the AFTERBURNERS on for more than ten minutes going transonic after takeoff, where they are on for another two minutes,
Otherwise, until the top of descent, the throttles are at "full dry power" the entire time, except for a short period of noise abatement between the period after takeoff and before going transonic.
@GolfPlayer96 yeah it's true ,, cause there's a thunder storm that's why the pilot request a highest level of feet. Seriously I cant believe in my flight.
i was the captain on this flight. I had flew about 61 flights with the concorde which was a verry rewarding experince i will never forget the concorde. but good thing i was not on the concorde crash ha ha ha but it was sad.
Amazing!!!! I am glad to see another concorde for Air France 3:51& 3:57 on the video while you are riding the British Airways concorde. Long Live concorde!!!!

No really, I know it's unusual, but that's the way it is done with Concorde.
Concorde is an exception, don't you see what im getting at.
I can even quote a book on Concorde by a Concorde captain:
'Concorde remains an icon of aviation history, and has acquired an unusual nomenclature for an aircraft. In common usage in the United Kingdom, the type is known as "Concorde" rather than "the Concorde" or "a Concorde".'
Thanks for telling me that it's "Concorde" and I do believe you now. But I'm so used to calling it "The Concorde" it's going to take some effort to start calling it just "Concorde". It sounds so weird... lol. Thanks again!
I know that you say the 747 or you talk about the a380. I never said you didn't, so don't put words in my mouth.
I wouldn't say it if I didn't know for sure. Being British, everywhere it is just Concorde, the media, BA themselves, the way we talk about it in everyday life - it's Concorde.
Thanks, but really, it's me who knows what I'm doing...
I guess I shouldn't keep relying on my comment box, because I feel slightly embarrassed now! I thought you were picking at me for no reason, but my fault!
lol... it's okay. I thought you were still mad at me even though I acknowledged the fact that you were right and I was wrong. As long as you know I wasn't trying to pick at you.
Nothing happens when you break the sound barrier, it is a smooth transition. The machmeter will tell you and some people would cheer and make a toast and stuff. On some flights the crew would announce it also.
Other than that, you feel nothin physical. Just the thrill of knowing you're flying supersonically on Concorde.
The first time I saw the Concorde, we were set to take off before it and we actually got to watch them take off from the tarmac and follow behind them. The other two times weren't as exciting as that first one.
u r so lucky to go on the concorde, that is my facorite plane in the world but guess what there not around any more so now i cant see or ride on a REAL concorde i have to look at modle that all >:(
Omg $3000! that is a lot of money for a flight to JFK. It worth every penny because you go there at like 3hrs. compared to a boeing plane which is like 5/6 hrs. You can even visit the cockpit, too which is really cool. The thing i don't like about is it is so noisy that it hurts my ears, but i like the sounds though.
Its a Plane - Just a damned plane! So WHY do I miss her so much!!! RIP Concorde. And thanks for this rare posting of an "interior" take-off and landing! I flew on her just the once - I wish I'd had the chance for another go.
it was expensive ,noisy but the best thrill of my life to date - september 12,1989 - concorde- heathrow to jfk - my round world first class on qantas ,british airways, concorde -from sydney was aus $6,500 - one of my better investments! and concorde now extinct :(

I love large transport. This one is especially alluring, but an environmental disaster.Noise pollution is the least of it - the permanent damage of all that jet fuel's exhaust is very high.
It's amazing how quiet the thing is inflight compared to outside. But i suppose it would be impossible to fly on otherwise. maybe one day commercial jetliners will be able to fly this efficiently this fast. Beautiful plane that I wish i'd gotten a chance to fly like my uncle.
Too dangerous? the Concorde only had one major accident in the 30 years it was in service...I highly doubt that safety was a concern. it was simply too costly to maintain and too fuel inefficient.
"Too dangerous? the Concorde only had one major accident in the 30 years it was in service"
27 years...
that said, one accident, in a commercial fleet of only 13 aircraft at that time, does indeed give Concorde the worst statistical safety record of any jet in commercial service at the time. With so few aircraft flying, it should NEVER have crashed.
If the worldwide 747 fleet had had that margin of safety, we'd have lost more than 400 of them by now.
1) the lump of metal was only one of several egregious human errors that happened in the F-BTSC incident.
2) Concorde had a history of over 50 tire bursts/blowout, with 29 of them causing structural damage-- who's to say the next one wouldn't have been fatal even if this one had been survivable?
In summary: "never" isn't exactly a safe word to use here.
I suppose you're right, never say never as they say, although as you've said previously there were no more fatal accidents in the remainder of Concorde's operation. I wish I could have flown on it! Did you get the chance? What's your favourite airliner?
I got to ride F-BVFB and F-BVFF with AF, on charters at a heavily-reduced price.
The only transatlantic experience I had was on G-BOAC, October 12, 2003 (Bday present from my parents). Interestingly enough, we blew a tire on takeoff, and had to wait 40min before disembarking at LHR upon arrival while they inspected it.
My favorite (specific) airliner of them all is the 777-232LR, considering that I'm a major Widgeteer ;)
With modern technology, the plane would have been much safer. Keep in mind the main technologies of Concorde were developed between the late 50's to early 60's. Were there flaws? Yes. Was the overall product as advanced as the 707, or even the 747? Yes.
Yes and no. It was supersonic, yes...but it came with a big price..fuel inefficiency. so it was not an incredible step because it was not affordable to fly on for most people.
@2:35 I would have nicked the cutlery. Can't get real cutlery on commercial flights anymore.

Concorde does (or did, sadly) a cruise climb.
That means that all the way across the Atlantic, they have the throttles fully open, and as they burn off fuel, they slowly drift higher as they become lighter. This means you'll notice the altitude slowly going up and up all the way through the cruise until descent.
What a machine :)

Yes.

Yes.

how many hours did it take
guest452 4 years ago
Departing LHR at 11:07am, it is 06:07am at JFK. Landing in JFK at 09:38am, the flight took about 3 hours and 30 minutes. Very impressive!

Can't believe the idiots stopped Concorde, it was the biggest step into the furture made in the 20th Century.

Yes and no. It was supersonic, yes...but it came with a big price..fuel inefficiency. so it was not an incredible step because it was not affordable to fly on for most people.

I found out recently why the concorde has its famous droopy nose. It was supposed to affect the way the plane flows through the air.
nathanjeffrey114 4 years ago
Actually they used the nose instead of flaps.
