I think the footage is made of two clips/layers and some computer generated effects. The background layer consists of a clip that has been reversed. This includes Derren and all the people moving backwards. Derren was filmed walking backwards and talking, but with a bit of practise, he was able to keep his movements smooth so that when the clip was reversed, it would make it look like he was walking normally. His head movement at 0:31...

@hellomynameiswhoami - ... gives this away. The next clip is a plain forward motion clip of people moving forward. These two clips were superimposed together to give the variety of forward and backward moving people.

The cars (or at least some of them) have been added in post-production. Notice how Derren and all the people produce long, rightwards shadows yet the cars produce none at all? That indicated that they were added into shot afterwards...

@hellomynameiswhoami - ... The voice of the cyclist was added in post also. It may look like he's speaking normally but because he's moving as he speaks, the mind doesn't pick up on his lip motion being out of sync with the audio.

I think the rest falls down to planning and rehearsals.
