  • beautifull whistle on this one I have 2 whistles in my train room that I wish I could hear blown a former GN 5 chime and a CB&Q 5 chime unfortunatlly the only complete one is my CB&Q one

  • @gaycowboy31 Right on man. Next to this 6 chime, my favorite whistle in the GN 5 chime. I have been wanting to buy a replica of one, but can't afford it.

  • @traindude109 yah thats cool I had to pay alot for each of the whistles I got one is complete and the other is missing the bottom half with the air valuve somone screwed a common household pipe stand to mount it however my CB&Q one is complete its the GN one I want to hear GN is one of my Favorite railroads besides the NP I know both whistles are the real one and the MD Replecas they are railroad marked I paid almost $5000 for the CB&Q one and almost $3000 for the GN one

  • is this railroad still landlocked or is the connection still there with the old SP I heard CORP no longer runs the old SP tracks

  • So glad to hear she'll be running again! I look forward to visiting, when i'm in the area!

  • Are you still running in 2010 or are you out of business?

  • @brandeoregon We did not run this year as we were performing heavy maintenance on the 19 and our passenger equipment. We are not our of business and plans are to return for a 2011 season.

  • where the engine going?

  • ....a nice video and a nice sound. Thumbs up !!!

  • always great to see steam! Nice video

  • how fast could this steam engine go?

  • I'd say since she's a strong 2-8-2, she'd go at least 50 with a regular freight. I sure hope "The Little Railroad That Refused To Die" can keep on goin'. I've wanted to see the Yreka Western for myself since I was little, and I may not meet my wish. I hope I'm not right.

  • Mmmmm....not quite. First of all you would need to do the needed repairs to the locomotive, and you would need a line to even attempt to operate that kind of speed, and the Siskiyou Line is most certaintly not it. Her 48" drivers were meant for power, not speed.

But hey what do I know, it's not like I work on her or anything...

  • 40 mph would be fine number for her provided she had class III track. We will never though! Made for power. Logging engines have a way of hopping at higher speed due to the stress that put on their spring rigging over the many years of service because of lack of maintence on track(low joints curves spreading out) because the company wasnt concerned about speed. Unless she's had a complete running gear rebuild since retired from revenue service.

  • @traindude109 cool video My god that is a Cool sounding whistle I got goosebumps listening to it but I love steam anyway anyhow small and large

  • Here's a rule of thumb I picked up about getting the approximate top speed of a steam locomotive. You take the size of the drivers and add 10% and that will give you an ball park max speed for the engine. So for a 90ton mike with 48inch drivers like the 19 the top speed will be around 50MPH. However, I doubt that engine has ever gotten up the fast and it would take a good engineer who knew what he was doing to do it. She's logging engine, logging engines don't go fast.

  • Wasn't she on consignment to Ozark Mountain Railcar? I saw her up for bids on their site...

  • @MarkConductor775 yes she went for one hell of a price too

  • She is no longer on Ozark and staying in Yreka. We have currently started taking her apart for her annual inspections come April or May this year.

  • That's the magic of Hollywood

  • This brings back memories of ridin it, I've got some old pictures of me and my brother on the same engin, number 19, back in the 90's. I'm in Ashland, OR so I'm not that far away.

  • if i won the lottery, i would buy this locomotive...

  • Well she won't be leavin' anytime soon thankfully ;)

  • By the way Matt, who's that dork standing in the middle of the road as the train rolls by? ;)

  • Well I don't know.....must be some lonely fireman looking for an engine.....

  • Yeah, most likely.

  • Comment removed

  • The only way the #19 would leave (for good) is if they tore out the rails and the Yreka Western was abandoned. She is safe.

  • the old days of steam are never forgotten when there is a steam photo frieght

  • like going back in time!!

  • Wow that was great

  • Thanks

  • That video turned out great Matt!

  • I know it! Then again, it did have Pancho in it ;)

  • Great!!!!! some trackside footage!!!!

  • but I think it would have been cooler if they made up the same consist she pulled in Emperor of the North, and have the 19 wearing the same markings from the movie.

  • That would be cool, but we don't have any of those types of cars on the Yreka Western. Besides she is a logging loco, so why not have her pull logging cars right?

  • Yeah, but it would have been cool to recreate the movie.

  • Yes I suppose, talk to the PLA guys next year, lol.

  • But they run a different excursion with a different locomotive every year.

  • Talked to Henry and he said they hope to come back next year. Hopefully it happens.

This past weekend was their "Shasta Shortline Steam Tour"

  • Right now, I am trying to convince the Railroad Museum to do a photo freight, hopefully it will happen.

  • Nice!
