Always remembered this! I backed a horse, Fire fright, who was a bit of a devil, but, was very speedy, if you got him, on the right day!. One day, he dug his feet in,this was before starting stalls, but then set off after the bunch. Like beetle bum, he came from last to FIRST, with Paul Cook hanging on, for dear life! Took a while to stop him! Think it was York or Doncaster!
My dad would watch everything with Spike Jones in it and laugh like crazy. I am hooked on his warped sense of humor and I too thank my dad for making me watch and laugh right along with him! Kids today just wouldn't "get it"...Sad! (I'm 63)
Still have my early-'60s compilation, "Thank You, Music Lovers" (of course), with its Jack Davis cover of Spike lying calmly on the ground while being stomped on by numerous feet. Google "Notary Sojac," kids!
@CannibalisticLust Sounds like a great childhood. I was introduced into the novelty music genre by Weird Al's "Eat It", but didn't really hear much until I started listening to Dr. Demento in 2000.

I am 20 years old, but I have been listening to this music since I was 9. My friend and I would dance around to it in the living room every time we got together, and eventually she got me Murdering the Classics on a CD. I still listen to them to this day, and I make my 12-year-old brother listen to them whenever he's feeling down.
It really doesn't matter how old you are or what other music you listen to. This stuff is timeless. And really funny too.
Spike Jones at his very best. My Auntie had this 78, and every time we went there, this was the first one I wanted her to play for me. She must have gotten so sick of hearing it, but she never said such a thing. This recording is in pristine shape for its age.
I'm 42 and my dad would play this for us, my sister and I always thought it was Beatlebaum! I never knew 'til this moment that it was Feitelbaum! It'll always be Beatlebaum for us!
I have a old cassette tape with a collection of spike jones skits, though they seem to differ only slightly (as in how they were delivered the jokes/lines)
Hi, I love this song since I heard it first as a boy - but could anybody tell me the real name of the horse? To me it sounds like Weedlewham. Winfried
Spike Jones was a GENIUS:):):):):):):):) But before my time, My mom & pop had all of his records on 78 in the 40's & 50's. I'm glad weird al carried this kind of music on into my generation of the 70's & 80's I love it. R.I.P Spike you and your merrymakers were the best.
And now they're tearing hair, there's hair all over the ring, there's hair all over the place, I don't know who's hair it is.... IT'S MINE.

I was forced by the awful music on German public radio in the 1970s to listen to the records of my father. Now I am 45 and still prefere good music.

@welder: Agreed, I used to listen to this in high school. I had a great old Spike Jones LP but I can't remember the name.
William Tell Overture was on the album, but it wasn't a greatest hits kinda thing. Does anyone remember the name of the LP?
