  • Nice Buick

  • how was your sway bar? Most centuries with stock sway bar are broken and people didn't really notice the difference.

  • the 1997-2005 Buick Century was assembled in

    Oshawa, Ontario, Canada

  • HA my Buick has all the same problems... broken tape deck (fixed with aftermarket stereo) and the squealy blower motor. Mine only squeals in the winter, go figure.

  • I bought my 1993 Buick with 212,000 miles on it almost a year ago and it currently has over 216,000 miles, absolutely no problems other then it needing two new tires. Great cars.

  • @iBoy2G Yeah this car was a good runner I'll say it lasted a long time and was basically the first sedan I took my drivers test with when I turned 16.

  • i want one

  • Why give this up for a POS caliber?

  • @Hofi8 Thankfully we don't have this car any more it did have a water pump that needed replaced as well as a harmonic balancer that needed replacing to. I will still say it was a good running car the 3.1 had I believe a random misfire that the computer could never pick up but other than that the head and intake gaskets weren't touched in that car.

  • @libtech59 If it is a Buick Century then I think its a good starter car at 4500 that seems about right for the price. They do have their problems though as listed already gm's 3.1 liter motors like to blow head gaskets. But other than that its a good strong starter car.

  • blown head gasket

  • Somebody wants to sell me a 1998 Buick Century Limited. It have 165 000 kilometers, an automatic transmition, a set of tires (worth 500$), ABS breaks for 2000$ Is it a good price?

  • I believe when we traded this car off it came out to about 5 grand if memory serves. Your car sounds like a great price 2 grand ain't too bad. But you mention ABS does the ABS have problems or have they been worked on recently? Reason I ask is sometimes if a car has the abs problems it can sometimes be more trouble than its worth and then again it can sometimes be something simple and inexpensive. Get that checked out first then make your decision if thats the problem.

  • @1972FordF100 the issue IIRC was wire harness rubbing against something wearing the insulation down to bare wires. Been all over my 98 when I got it and haven't seen that issue. Got a tiny intake leak and saw the opportunity to swap intakes with a 3400 V6 Chevy Impala and metal intake gasket set to prevent the every 90,000/100,000 mile change interval. Also follow the order the bolts need to be tightened on lower intake and thread lock em. That's where people had the most issues.

  • did you said you have a carburator on this motor???,if yes, hiiiiiiiii not here in canada/quebec they are fuel injection

  • No not at all I said hes getting a Caliber and something about adjusting the carburetor on my 72 you can hear idling in the background. Newer cars here in north america and pretty much all over the world don't use carbs any more its all fuel injection, burns cleaner and can adjust for emmisions better than a carb could ever do.

  • I know this is random. but mudflaps make your car rust

  • I would imagine back east there would be problems with it but here in Colorado were more prone to dirt and mud splashing up on the fenders.

  • i have a 3.1 its great

  • Yes they are great motors very strong and this one I believe has alot of life left in it where ever it is!

  • the heater gets its heat from the motor.. it doesnt make its own heat

  • Yes I do know that I should have said if I didn't in the video a blower motor. Sounded like a duck call when it was cranked on high.

  • My mom inherited a 98 Century with this same motor and we just went and picked it up today. 120,000 miles. Runs great, however the AC doesn't work. It has a problem with the same window as your's which is it won't stay rolled up and keeps trying to fall down. The heater motor is squeaky when you first turn the switch and only actually runs on hi-speed. You say the window thing on your's would have cost $400 to do a proper fix? If thats the case I'm sure it'll be a C-Clamp for mom's cars too, LOL

  • At the time it did cost 400 for a new part and 200 for used if you can find a used one that works it seems common for the buicks of this generation to lose the back windows espically the left side for some odd reason. Heres the kicker to a 400 dollar part. From whats diagonesed someone told me it is not a motor problem but a cable/electrical problem damn thing must be made of gold lol.

  • How is the new Caliber doing? Can you make a video? Id like that buddy. Thank you.

  • Yep I sure can make a video Im not sure how soon I can upload it but I'll get it done!

  • Whoops forgot to answer your question the calibers fine im still trying to get used to the cvt transmission but other than that pretty solid little car. Other than a minor electrical glitch but hopefully if dodge isn't an ass about it, it should be covered under warranty.

  • I Have The Same car but in red and the handle for the glove box broke to

  • 1997-2005 Centurys were the exact same thing as the last gen. Regals, right?

  • Yes they used the same body but the main difference was trim levels and the regal offered the 3.8 where the century didn't have one I don't believe.

  • It whould be better it has a 3.8 lol But its in nice shape!

  • Yep gotta love those 3.8's my moms buick lacrosse has the 3.8 and boy is it smooth. Thanks for the compliment sadly now its gone and an 08 caliber sits in its place.

  • man be careful getting a caliber. they are cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeap lol. btw, your truck sounds so badass in the beginning.

  • Oh wish us luck we found an 08 with 6,000 miles on it so were going up mid week or this weekend to take a look at it but what can you say my brother is a dodge guy. Thanks for the compliment of the truck it was feeling a little ambitious that day lol.

  • dude i am like obsessed with engine sounds right, and that is the best ever. loud. lol. loud but not obnoxious. amazing V8 rumber. hell just rip the muffler off, who needs a muffler anyway? lol..just watch them smokeys! (cops lol)

  • lol these cops around here could care less except for highway patrol but thats a different story. Funny story here my next door neighbor I think is trying to have revving contests with me. I hear him every morning revving his old 302 ford pickup out in his driveway lol.

  • have you ever gone "car alarm hunting"? you know what i'm talking about lol....where you pull up to a newer car with a alarm system and rev the shit out of your engine and it starts beeping lol. ive done it in my ranger in portland once and got 3 cars going at the same time lol....that freeflow exhaust i have works like a charm haha

  • Ha never done that before but I have to try it, you have sparked my interest with this now kevin lol.

  • you wouldn't even have to take your motor passed 4,000 rpms to make a car alarm go off it's so loud lol. it's fun as hell. just make sure them smokeys aint around lol. but seriously, do it, it's fun.

  • lol it sounds like it get the adrenaline pumping and I'd be laughing so hard i'd bust a gut lol.

  • wow, i'd drive it. even tho, it's these cars that piss me off when you get behind them on the road, because it's not uncommon to see a buick going 10mph under the speed limit lol. great shape, great video

  • Thanks kevin I know its a grandma/grandpa car but its gotten the job don lol.

  • the crown vic/grand marquis is considered a grandma's car too but it has balls lol. too bad this buick has a steriotype lol.

  • lol thats so true this buick fits the bill perfectly.

  • Great vid, Richard! Closest thing I had to a Buick was that 79 Grand Prix with the 3.8 Buick engine in it! It had about similar mileage when the A/C went out on it, and I traded it off..had it from new. Was a great car, only complaint was the interior vinyl surfaces on the door panels ..top layer wore away! :) Jack

  • Thats cool jack very nice indeed espically with a 3.8 motor those are very good motors. Ouch coul it have been that florida sun I bet that could eat vinyl up like nothing. Thanks Jack!

  • Yeah, they used to call those GP's mini Sevilles because there was a resemblance! The sun does do a number on interiors here in Florida! They are better able to resist, now, I think they found the plastics that can resist ultraviolet better! :) Jack

  • dont get a dodge caliber if you horse them they wont blow they will have blow by.

  • SFI= sqwinchal fuel injection right?

  • yep

  • Yep you got it!

  • and 5 stars for you :) keep up the great videos!

  • say it ain't so a dodge caliber, those things are a real beastly looking car, i can think of a few better cars, is your bro a dodge fan? or does he even care? still better than a yota or wonda, funny thing, my old trucks heater blower is probably 30 years old, and works still, but it sounds like a train steam whistle! serious! i will have to video that! :) i think you might like that :)and glad to hear your Dad served in the Navy, all respects there man! and thanks for sharing! :)

    -Brent

  • Your welcome brent thank you for the rating and comment. Yes he's a dodge fan the only one in our family but from some of the research I have done these calibers don't seem to have the fire recalls that I have heard of from other dodge products oh well we'll have to see how it turns out.

  • i wouldnt get a caliber its a small car get a magnum or v-6 charger if you have to

  • Yeah I wouldn't get one but for him it will work plus hes not experienced in rear wheel drive cars so I think he would not know how to drive it when winter conditions come around.
