i totaly egrre with you ,today heros areand examples are singers and football players.... these are the dark days of our culture, we have to remember the courage of our ancestors. soon we will need of people like those who lost their lifes standing on the alamo's walls
i love this movie cuz it makes me really proud to have been born/raised/ and still live in texas. im actually related to Ben Milam. for all u texas historians, youll know who he was
"Who will follow ol' Ben Milam?" Too cool! Had it not been for the Alamo, Ben would no doubt have been one of the giants and most remembered Texas patriots!
I'm an Aussie , and from my earliest days I can recall I have had a fascination with the Alamo. So many great men died to the last for such a high purpose. We Aussies haven't had "that moment" in our history , outside of the Eureka Stockade but that pales into insignificance compared to the Alamo.
How can some one say that there patriots when they come and "steal land" in the name of there rights like slavery!Cause salavery was illegal in Mexico since the begening of the republic. Then the Americans want to call us "illegals"thats funny!!!We're in our home land not like the white people that were in the Alamo that day.Like thiefs just cause it happen years ago doesnt mean that it belongs to them.A thief is a thief it doesnt matter how you put it period!!!
the only state to be itss own country and fight off one of the greatest armies ever assembled now im mexican but down here in the valley we are tex mex and we love our state remember the alamo and goliad
Actually, for the most part, a most replicant exhibit of this famous battle., sans the Crockett/Alamo last stand crap. Crockett was killed in the Alamo plaza, immediatedly in front of the icon that is the Alamo, according to all historical accounts.
jspee, The story you are referring to is the "Pena" story, wrote some 40 years after the battle of the Alamo. Pena hated Texas and all it stood for. 40 years after the battle of the Alamo, the legend of Crockett was established. Honestly , historians don't even believe that the Pena account was wrote by him. Men were shot by the Mexican army as they were called out from the low barracks, but not in the Alamo proper were Crockett was. Santa Ana's cook verified Crockett's body himself there.
i remember the cruel and devastating look of Santa Anna he had a low grin on his face staring at my great grandfather soon my great grandfather had no fate but to die a hero [wiliam barret travis]
In fact [as I'm graduating from high school this year] I'm probably going to A&M. I consider myself an Aggie already, though, cause my parents, uncle, and brother went there. But it's okay, lots of people are longhorns fans.
I worked on this movie, and despite the heat and stress, it was an honor. It's only now I can watch it without thinking of the extras running around with rubber muskets...
You picked some great scenes, but you forgot the scene with Davy playing the violin with the Mexican Army!
They are called Pioneers. They are like heavy engineers, destroy breastworks, clear the way, etc. They hit the west wall. Each Infantry Battalion had a squad of 8, on the right side of the line in formation. They were physically imposing, wore aprons, beards, and carried broad axes. Scary dudes.
dont know much on history do you. the rebellion in texas was just part of a greater rebellion going on all through texas. And you cant really call it stealling when they were asked to settle texas at the invitation of the mexican gov. all they did was rebel like a lot of otehr mexican citizens when the military took over the gov there. but if the US is such bad people for taking texas on as a state why do so many mexicans flood accross the border?
Well, if there is any way to make you remember the Alamo, it's by sticking Patrick Wilson in it! Aaaw, but seriously, though... this will make you cry, and it's beautiful. *Sigh*
Wow...you should look up the Battle of San Jacinto. it was one of the most decisive battles in history. Lasted eighteen minutes, resulted in a total rout of the Mexican Army, the capture of Santa Anna, and brought the war, which had been going against the Texans at the time, to an abrupt halt.
It's a pretty well-documented and famous battle. Look it up in any historical journal.
freedom? of what 4 u redneck biggots the real texans suffered and have suffered . u seem to 4get that mexico had no slaves. the americans had slaves and were not willing to set them free
... texas was stolen from us the real mexicans the real texans us with indian blood .. viva mexico ustedes nos despojaron de nuestra tierra , rateros saceadores .. u guys are like the jews that took away the land from jordan . exactly the same i am not racist but that makes me angry
Yes, but recall the Spaniards stole Mexico from the native Indian population just as surely as Anglos (and Spain/Mexico) stole Texas from them. Face it: European settlers conquered the "New World" because they could. If the other side could have sailed over to Europe and conquered, they would have.
As far as slaves go,the Mexican government did not need slaves;the bulk of their population were peons-illiterate serfs serving their masters, both by working the land and serving in the Army.
its a good movie, but with a lot of open questions. Dukes movie about the alamo was better by the characters (Hank Worden, Chuck Roberson, John Dierkes...)and by the battlescenes. not so relaistic, by the way, i know.......and unforgotten, the famous sountrack written by dimitri tiomkin.
my family fought in goliad battle. i grew up on all the battles but being raised in pa i beleave all americans should learn what each of these men died for. i'm a texan by berth as well as by blood and i never would change any part of it. because they died for the greatest cause. and anytime i return to texas to see the alamo feel the the ghost of the defenders and it is there i give them my thanks for me being free from mexico. they started the war.
im from san antonio the alamo city my great great great great grandpa is general sam houston any people that love texas history give me a friend request
This movie clip does give me more Texas Pride. And when I go down town and look at the Alamo, it reminds me of this movie clip. All of the Texans defending the alamo. This clip is exactly what I imagined happened at the final battle.
now being a Texan ,The cry of the Alamo does inspire, but being From Texarkana, and so far removed from that Part of Texas ,its hard to feel pride I guess, maybe ive been corrupted by Arkansas,I still enjoyed the movie ,I liked Billy bOb thorton over John Wayne as Davy Crockett
*gasps* It's PAAATTTRRRIIIIIICCCKK! Yay, amazing. I could watch him talk for hours. But the ALAMO is a great movie, too. But I'm a huge PW fan as you've guessed.
Heroes. Not just the famous ones. Each of them. They recognized the priceless value of freedom and were willing to pay it. Their example inspired the next month when Santa Anna was defeated and still inspires today. Remember the Alamo. Three simple words. Three words to cherish.
It suits people in this contemporary climate of political correctness and revisionism to recreate a story that may have historically been unfavorable to one group or another. And, in an attempt to either appease, placate or appeal to those groups, history can conveniently be rewritten until it meets with their satisfaction, usually without accuracy. No matter how popular it is to demonize Americans or Texans today, the facts remain that Mexico lost a war to Texas and lost a war to the USA.
lol like.... "little children"? lol! i laughed out loud when i saw a poster for that at the movies... idk... the sight of raoul and that girl from the titanic made me crack up.
Remeber San Jacinto. Remember the Treaties of Velasco. During the short but furious fighting, Houston was wounded in the left ankle and Santa Anna escaped. In 18 minutes of combat, the Texan army had won, killing about 630 Mexican soldiers, wounding 208 and taking 730 prisoners. Only 9 Texans were killed.
